I was given a torn poster of the Celtics back in '91 with Larry Bird and his teammates in action. That started it all.

Will These Help the C's?
How bad are the Celtics right now? I think it’s like the-end-of-the-regular-season-with-games-slipping-away-left-and-right bad. The worse part is that unlike those regular season ending droughts where they still fight but maybe only half heartedly as they try to preserve themselves in the post season, this on the other hand, there seem to be an all out effort to fight for a win but it’s just not happening. Changes, as reported here, might happen if this dismal trend continues and they might want to start at this:
On and Off Rondo
An aggressive Rondo on offense is what greeted us at the start of this season as he attempted a combined 34 attempts making 18 of them against NY and Miami. He was rewarded with 23 visits to the free throw line where he converted 16 points. They did lose those 2 games but they were able to keep pace with the torrid offense of those 2 teams (albeit late in the game) and you have to admit those 2 losses were much more entertaining than they’re losses against NO and Indiana.
Bloodhound Bradley
Sounds like a WWE wrestler. It does fit well after the relentless display of defense he showed against the Nets last night.
Benchmark
With 6 games tucked under their belts and a split win/loss record, the bench assembled by DA during the quick pre-season has so far managed to put a significant dent on the Celtics latest campaign.
Four on the Floor
Boston’s 2-3 start, with those 2 wins coming against a pair of lightweights, is a small sample to create a blueprint on how to win or lose games. However, those 2 games with Pierce back in the line up, has showed us how they are able to set the tone early in the game with the Captain playing alongside Rondo, Allen and KG.
A Rant Against Fellow Celtics Fans
0-2 is disappointing. Even if they almost pulled off a win in those 2 starts at the end of the day a win is what counts.
Why the Experts are Wrong
In the days leading to the opening of the new season much has been said and will still be said on how Boston would fare. Few have been positive while as expected many are again counting out Boston as a legitimate title contender.
Problems Solved
Last season we've talked a lot on how Boston had difficulty creating offense, struggled in rebounding and had an uneven bench. At the start of this season, with no cap space and no assets to dangle, not much was expected to get solved and I honestly thought things might just get worse. But again we've underestimated DA. After the roster finally took shape, it looks like these problems can and will get solved:
Plan C: Let Johnson Play And See What He Can Do
The trade for David West didn't work out in the end. I would have been disappointed anyway if it did worked and JaJuan Johnson was one of the players traded (I read in one report that he was being bundled with Moore and O'Neal for West). West has enormous offensive capabilities but losing Johnson without at least seeing him in action first is something that we might regret later.
Johnson has a lot of upside and has consistently improved throughout his college career. He's been effective in contributing in both sides of the court and very mobile even for his height.
I'd like to see Boston invest on Johnson knowing how rare it is to find a rookie with his potential. Perhaps under the guidance of KG and Doc Rivers we might see him improve by leaps and bounds since he has shown a capacity to pick things up quickly. This is a player who can score, rebound, block shots and has a mature sense of self awareness that helped him go over his limitations and consistently improve on his game. And so far with the roster that Danny Ainge has managed to assemble so far, they can let Johnson play and still be competitive.
As things stand right now, Rondo is the future of the C's backcourt and maybe Johnson could be the cornerstone of our frontcourt.
If DWest Gets Signed DA Gets A 10
If David West gets signed this could well be the best supporting cast that the C's have had since KG and Ray Allen went on board. We're talking about 3 guys in West, Green and Bass who can score and are regular starters in their previous teams.
I'd like to see Doc Rivers experimenting on the first five. I remember reading here that DA and Doc plans to make Pierce go off the bench to lessen the pressure off him and give him additional fuel down the stretch for his offense. Perhaps in some games Bass or West could start in place of KG or Green in place of Pierce.
The question now is who will they release in exchange of West? If JO gets released they could go aggressive on recruiting Kwame Brown who remains unsigned (although he's leaning on going back to Charlotte). If they give away Green on the other hand DWest can perhaps relieve Pierce and JaJuan and Bass can complete the frontline of the 2nd unit.
With all the movements going on no intensive write ups have been made as well on the potential of the rookie Johnson. But I have high hopes for this kid and I am hoping that he will be given a lot of chance to prove himself this season.
Go DA. Go C's.
From West to East
Amare headed East at the start of the season. Melo followed him to NY after his much publicized trade demands. Now Deron Williams is going to New Jersey. Suddenly, the East is loaded with All-Stars.
Of Starters and Reserves
Rondo played superbly against the Cavs in the first half but Doc River's decision to let him play almost the whole game (save for garbage time) was pretty bad. Again we're left wondering what is the point of having reserves if we won't let them play and give the starters some rest?
Worried? Nope.
Yep we've been losing some games and in some against very beatable opponents. And with the trade deadline looming teams including the C's are pushing buttons to either boost their teams or get some space off their salary caps. Boston of course is looking to improve but the quote from one GM after talking to Danny Ainge that Boston is "getting desperate" is disconcerting and desperation as a result, can lead to a hasty and eventually bad decision.
Boston Drama
Being a fan can be a hazardous preoccupation. You are required a certain level of commitment that sometimes you can't even extend to your friends or family. Worse, it could affect you in a way that is difficult to comprehend. I for instance, has this peculiar tendency to stick to certain "fannish superstitions" like holding my breath when the opponent attempts a free throw which, in my theory, should force the opponent to miss the shot (and I have the temerity to tell my daughter that ghosts are not real).
Celtic Pride
I just watched the Celtics' Championship DVD again and it doesn't change one bit how I felt the first time I saw the video. Having picked a bad time to be a Celtics fan in the early 90's, when Larry Bird was on his way out, then Reggie Lewis died and Dino Radja became our best player, their championship season was like in Paul Pierce's words, "a breath of fresh air." I managed to get by our sufferings in the 90's and then became hopeful when PP and Antoine played together; only to see the team crumbling down yet again when they started focusing on rebuilding the team with a slew of young players.
BBD's Dilemma
I understand that Boston, just like the other teams who've shown interest on BBD, are reluctant to shell out a huge amount of money to sign him: his strong showing in the playoffs in a team that has a depleted frontline is simply not enough to gauge his basketball skills.
The BBD Project
Boston and Indiana might need a third team to make the S & T for Daniels work and New Jersey can possibly be the third team after they showed their interest in BBD. But what can Boston possibly get from New Jersey?
The Celtics is still the Best in the East
The smoke that was the free agency is starting to set and so far Boston, Cleveland and Orlando are still the top three favorites in the East.
Defensive Hole
The Celtics have had some problems dealing with athletic teams, just like what Atlanta and Chicago has showed in their two previous successive first round match-ups. The brand of offense of teams like them has exposed Boston's weakness in transition defense in an open court type of basketball.
Offensive Firepower
The last two seasons, the Celtics' bench offensive reliability has been questioned. Most often one of the Big 3 stays on the court with the second stringers to prevent the offense from keeling over. But all that seem to have changed with the addition of Rasheed and the possible arrival of Marquis Daniels.
What's Wrong With Odom?
So Lamar Odom was offered $9 million and decided to act like he's not seeing it and talks to the Mavs and the Heat. Well thanks Lamar it will be a great joy to see you in a different NBA uniform next season.
Posey Or Someone Like Him
With the recent addition of Rasheed Wallace, Boston is almost close to duplicating a tough line up reminiscent of the team that won banner 17 (althought definitely Rasheed is a big upgrade compared to what PJ Brown, with all due respect to PJ, was able to bring to the team before). The only missing piece is a player with the caliber of James Posey. Or we could bring Posey back.
Committed to Winning
Today Rasheed, tomorrow the world. And to conquer the world let's load one more big guy or a wingman like Grant Hill to our roster.
Celtics: Here and Now
The draft was a sleeper but the free agency has been a blockbuster as we see some of the league's big names being grabbed by teams who wants to stay in power.
