Who do you like and why to have the better MLB career?

These 2 are two of the better prospect bats. Both have had issues with high K rates. Snider is closer to the Show. Snider has less defensive value. Stanton is the better athlete. Stanton and Snider both have elite power potential.

The Marlins tend to more aggressively promote their prospects while the Blue Jays take a more gradual approach to development.

Dynasty Deal with lots of young talent - Stanton, Bruce, Wood, Jones, Kemp

Thought this trade might generate some good dialogue on some view on some of the involved players most of which are still very young (< 25) or still prospects. I don't normally tee up fantasy trades on this site unless however I feel that they involve young players that I know many here have strong views on. Any views on the deal or players involved are appreciated.

Context: 16 team Mixed 5x5 Dynasty League, no salaries. Both teams are playoff caliber teams. Ignore any positional needs as it is not a real factor for either team.

Team A (mine) Gives up:
Adrian Gonzalez, Jay Bruce, Michael Stanton

Team B Gives up:

Matt Kemp, Adam Jones, Brandon Wood (or a possible alternate prospect).

Team A is giving up a ton of talent, that may possibly combine for ~ 120 HRs annually in a few years. That said, odds are that both of Stanton and Bruce don't reach their MLB "power ceilings" of ~ 40 HRs annually as both have some degree of concerns relative to high K rates/low contact rates. Adrian Gonzalez is as steady as it gets and no need for a lot of analysis here as MLB production rates are clearly established.

Team A is getting arguably the best (again 5x5 fantasy) asset in the deal in Matt Kemp. He hits the ball so hard that a sub 80% contact rate should allow him to continue to be a ~ 300 hitter and he could be a real 30/30 threat with 300-100 (avg/rbi) totals as well, obviously elite fantasy numbers. Funny Adam Jones is a player that I'd take over either Bruce or Stanton for real MLB purposes. Not so sure for fantasy purposes. Jones has always shown nice growth as he adjusts to higher levels of competition and I can see him settling in to a 280-25-100 line production during his peak seasons. Wood is the throw in that I would like in the deal. His stock has dropped a lot but once/if he leaves the Angels I do think that he could develop into a decent power source (25-80) and also stay at SS (a JJ Hardy type of player, hopefully sans 2009).

Anyway, I appreciate any input on this trade and the young players involved.

Okay, I've set up a poll to make this easy. Assume a 5x5 16 team Mixed Dynasty League (no salaries). Interested in this as much for folks perspective on some of the talent involved, in particular Jay Bruce and Logan Morrison.

I have already proposed this deal and will make it or not, regardless of the outcome of this poll but would like to stimulate any views opions on the talent involved.

Jay Bruce & Ryan Westmoreland

for

Edwin Jackson & Logan Morrison.

Bruce played 2009 as his age 22 season. While his avg was tepid and contact rate low, he is due for some luck based increase in his BABAIP% The power is real and he still has a chance to blossom, although I doubt he's a player that will hit above 280 on a regular basis.

Jackson looks like he'll be a steady #3SP for several years. Still has the potential to take another step forward, although personally I think that he is "what you see is what you get".

Westmoreland is all tools and will rank high by places like BA that grade tools over performance and not so high by guys like Sickels who favor production. Injury risk seems a bit of a red flag

Morrison. Should be a solid 1B. A better MLB player than a fantasy player given that he'll likely be a ~ 20 HR guy (without speed) and that production is pretty easy to replace in Mixed fantasy leagues.

Thanks

Better MLB Career - Jay Bruce or Michael Stanton???

A hybrid comparison as Bruce is already in The Show. Bruce is 2.5 years older, though still a very young player having played the 2009 season at age 22. I see some similarities inasmuch as the risk factor impeding the stardom of both players is a high K rate and the reciprocal low Contact %. Both have otherworldly bat speed and are good bets to be able to hit 40+ HRs in their peak MLB seasons. Stanton has a slightly longer swing, although Stanton probably gets points for having a better work ethic (not that Bruce's is bad it just that Stanton's is world class). Defensively they should both be average to slightly above average corner outfielders and base runners. Thus, the seperation between the two will be based upon their bat.

Bruce has already shown his strengths and weaknesses at the MLB level. Stanton should still have 1.5 years of minor league development in front of him. How do you factor this into player value?

Which hitter do you like better and why?

Okay. These are 3 high ceiling amateur SPs. Lotto tickets if you will. Garret Cole looks like the top SP prospect in the 2011 draft, although a lot can go wrong and change between now and thin. Aroldis has an otherworldly FB for a young lefty (Cubans who have played in international tournaments usually have a kosher age), although nothing elite after than. Ynoa took the 2009 season off essentially, still should have the same ceiling that he had a year ago but I guess the elbow concerns lower his floor.

Okay, a lot of you are very familiar with all three of these young arms all of which reside on young Dynasty (5x5) team. My team looks like it will make the playoffs now after this week and with Branyan hitting the DL and my DL slots maxed out already, I will have to drop a young pitcher from my roster to be able to field a legal, full starting lineup for the playoffs.

I'll post a poll to make this easier, but I am interested in your thought process as well. Bailey has shown legit flashes of being a quality MLB SP this year, although he has been inconsistent (as are a lot of elite young arms -- Cahill, Price, Latos, etc). I doubt that I would use Bailey in the playoffs (but one never knows) Perez and Moore have very high ceilings but are very young.

Which player would you cut and why? Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mixed 16 team 5x5 Dynasty, no salaries. I give up: Beltran & Billingsley i get: Ed Jackson (TB), Granderson & Matusz Beltran is a ? with his future speed given his knee issues and HRs will be suppressed at Citi. Bills has more upside than Edwin Jackson, although Jackson has established himself as a young very solid SP. Matusz has a nice ceiling. I have team that can scuffle for a playoff slot now, but is built more for the future. Interested in any opinions. Thanks

Poll - Rank the 3 Young Oakland SP's - Cahill, Mazzaro & Anderson

Okay there's been a lot of individual commentary on these 3 pitchers as they cut their teeth at the major league level.

Vince Mazzaro

Trevor Cahill

What order do folks like these young arms for the long term (best MLB career)?

Mazzaro was the least regarded heading into the season but has has the best results so far.

Cahill and Anderson were about in similar tier by most pundits. Cahill had a rocky start, but has strong together several respectable outing (excluding his last disaster). The K's need to improve as does his control.

Anderson started out well but has faded in recent outings (he goes tonight)

Interested in some thoughts, discussion, debate between Matt Latos and Homer Bailey. Latos is now at AA and still holding his own (brief sample). Bailey is a fallen angel, now 0-for-2 in his brief MLB auditions.

Better MLB Career - Homer Bailey or Luke Hochevar

Two once elite prospects who have had a bump or two in their ascent to MLB success. Hochevar, GB machine, has been tremendously consistent at AAA this year. Hoch was very hittable in his early MLB stints.

Homer Bailey, once the top SP prospect in the game. Some say a thrower and not a pitcher. Has had flashes of brilliance at AAA this year and was good in the spring but still he has been a bit inconsistent.
