Collins is not going to put the winning run on base. Even he's not that dumb.

I agree about power-hitting.

Meh. Your tolerance is low. This is pretty mild. Don't you remember the summer of 2011?

Shane has like 20 PAs. That's like what, one HR if those PAs were taken by those guys?

Plate discipline doesn't mean much of anything as far as scoring runs, the latter being the thing that matters.

Playing in front of the best defense in baseball also helps.

I think people are overreacting to some gaudy AAA numbers in an offense-inflated environment in a small sample.
Commented on Is arbitration eligibility impacting the St. Louis Cardinals' decision to promote (or not) Oscar Taveras, Stephen Piscotty, or Randal Grichuk? on Apr 23 2014, 4:55p - 2 replies
I don't think it's playing a role. Seems clear the team is ready to call up OT when he shows he is ready through his performance.

Like Piscotty, this is Grichuk's first year in AAA; he's actually 8 months younger than Piscotty.

Shelby MIller came up and had like a 2.00 ERA from Mar-May 2013 (and had a 1.32 ERA in his Sept. callup)
Commented on 2014 Draft Preview 14th Edition: Persons of Interest One on Apr 23 2014, 3:39p
I'm sure if Taveras comes up and performs at a very high level like Wacha did, there won't be any issue.

I'm guessing we're facing a LHP. This is pretty much the RH-platoon lineup.

Commented on AMP Mailbag: Singleton's Flaws? on Apr 23 2014, 3:12p
My comment wasn't about whether the data is consistent at the same level (i.e., between Singleton's numbers and the league average in the league he's in)
Commented on AMP Mailbag: Singleton's Flaws? on Apr 23 2014, 2:02p - 1 reply
If you go back to my first comment, which was a harmless comment about being careful not to conflate different data sources...
Commented on AMP Mailbag: Singleton's Flaws? on Apr 23 2014, 1:59p
And to be clear, I don't think Backe was "good" (at least in comparison to other ML starting pitchers)

No, I meant to condescend, because I do doubt that he had any basis for his comment, so you actually got that part right.

Commented on McHughicane: hurler, homers capsize Mariners, win series on Apr 23 2014, 1:22p
Like I said, meh. I don't care if you backpedal; your subjective view of what "stinks" is whatever it is. I was putting your statement in context for other readers.

Sure, but those teams can't afford Lee's salary, unless you're saying that Philly is eating almost all of it.

It was actually a shoulder injury that ended Backe's career.

I would be careful about transferring Singleton's contact% numbers from the minors and comparing them to pitch f/x numbers in the majors.
