NY Times: Switzerland by Electric Bike

I think it's too easy to mistakenly dismiss this concept of touring by electric bike. Switzerland now has 400 electric bike rental locations. It's a fantastic opportunity to see one of the most beautiful countries by bike .... for those that might be just slightly intimidated by all the mountains.

This afternoon, my wife and I went to see the new Swiss film: "Hugo Koblet - Pédaleur de Charme" Really enjoyable. It's a mixture of historic film, acted drama, and narration via interviews with many old colleagues, including the legend Ferdi Kübler (who looked very fit for his +90 years). Among the fabulous footage is Koblet winning the TdF and Giro, losing the Giro on Stelvio to Coppi, winning the Zurich 6-day, etc. Favorite scene. Winning a stage and taking the movie-star podium girl (and future girl-friend) for a celebration lap on his bike (photo in embedded video). The film is in Swiss-German with French sub-titles. Hopefully an english sub-titled version will appear when it comes to DVD.

Why You (Probably) Can’t Exercise Too Much

Study: Tour de France athletes seemed to live, on average, 17 percent longer than their inactive compatriots. (I wonder if results would be different when studying later, more doped TdF eras?)
