I've been a Clemson Tigers fan my whole life growing up in South Carolina. Being from South Carolina also means that when it comes to pro sports, my affiliations are random, because of course there aren't local pro sports teams to follow. Baseball, I of course follow the Braves since they're the team of the South. Had I been born a few years later when the Carolina Panthers were already going I would've probably just been a fan of them, but I had already fallen in love with the mystique of the bad ass Raiders (and I thought that Bo Jackson was about the most bad ass person ever) so the Panthers had to settle for being my secondary team by the time they came along. I first learned to watch hockey because of a buddy of mine whose family was from Michigan, so I became a Red Wings fan. And then there are the San Antonio Spurs. People who I'm a Raiders fan as well accuse me of just liking the colors of Silver and Black, but the Spurs really hadn't even embraced that whole theme when I first started following them as they still had that awful "fiesta colors" logo and court design. I became a Spurs fan because I admired David Robinson, who happened to have the best nickname in all of sports, and it was solidified for life when they drafted Tim Duncan, whom I had liked watching during his college career at Wake Forest even as he was singlehandedly shredding some of the best basketball teams Clemson has ever had. So there you have it, the story behind how I managed to assemble the most ridiculous collection of teams to root for ever assembled.

The NBA is locked out, but that hasn't stopped PASPN's mock GM fantasy game from running. The Pounding the Rock keeper league just refreshed today to start the third season. We do have several open GM slots, so if you're interested in joining, follow the link.

San Antonio Travel Advice

I had pretty much decided at the beginning of this year that my summer vacation was going to be to San Antonio so that I could watch a Spurs playoff game in person, based on a feeling of optimism...

Vindication for the Raiders' Draft

Over the years the Raiders have taken a lot of flack for some of their draft choices, with this year proving an exception as most of the draftniks agreed afterward that we had a good haul. But for further proof of just how great a draft we had this year, check out this Sports Illustrasted article that does a do-over on the draft with the benefit of hindsight. The Raiders place 4 rookies in the revised first round, Rolando, Houston, Jacoby Ford, and Veldheer. Obviously still hoping to make the playoffs this year, but even if we don't, I think it's fair to say we have a solid foundation for next year.

NBA 2K11

Tomorrow marks the release of the only basketball sim game coming out in 2011. I know that sounds preposterous, but it's true. The 2K College Hoops series ended with the '08 release because of...

Man I Wish This Was Real

Ordinarily, I would never encourage anyone to watch professional wrestling, and am always slightly surprised to learn that people still follow this "sport," but this clip features Mark Cuban...

Team of the Decade

There has been a lot of talk lately about the Spurs and Lakers will be battling for the mythical title of Team of the Decade this season. The typical line of argument goes that the Spurs and Lakers...
