Canis Hoopus Jae Crowder participated in NJ combine...

Jae Crowder was one of the participants and the Nets combine this weekend. His name has been brought up as a possible draft pick for the Wolves. I have been one of the people who wanted (wants) Crowder; however, his measurements leave a lot to be desired.

Crowder is 6’3.75" with a 6’5.5" wingspan and 8’6.75" reach. He is also a fairly avg athlete.

Iggy is is 6’5.75" with a 6’11" wingspan and 8’9.5" reach. He is a little more athletic (see draftexpress).

I still like Crowder, but after seeing his measurements I know longer think his college stats can justify a first round pick. A SF/ PF in college who wants to play SG/SF in the pros who is probably not big enough or athletic enough to guard SF should probably not be drafted in the first round. I still like him though and wouldn’t mind us taking him in the second if available but would rather see us trade it and other assets for a good vet (Iggy?) or maybe take Barton or Ross with the 18th pick. For our late 2nd round pick I would like us to take a chance on William Mosley out of Northwestern St. Good WS/40 throughout college, good rebounder and shot blocker. A bit undersized, but it is almost the last pick in the draft.

44 prospects will participate in a group workout organized by the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets. They will be measured and put through agility tests similar to the NBA Combine. A chance to see how Jae Crowder measures out.

Canis Hoopus 2012 Window of Opportunity...Free Agents

Looking at our next "window of opportunity", I wanted to see what kind of player we might be able to get who are less likely to "bust" mainly with an eye on the easiest targets-free agents. With the premise that we are not extending qualifying offers and waiving players so that we only have to keep: Love, Williams, Pek, JJ, Johnson, Luke, Ricky, Ellington, & Lee (I believe those are the players we are most likely to keep for various reasons.) The two biggest needs that have been discussed are wing(s) & backup 4/5.

The list of free agents players below are an attempt at identifying players to target. These are the players who are above average in WP48 (above .1 from nerdnumbers), who have a positive 1 yr unadjusted overall rating when compared to their team's rating (from basketballvalue.com), and have a positive O-D rating compared to their team rating (from basketball reference). Some of the players who are mentioned such as: Arron Afflalo, Bismack Biyombo, Avery Bradley, Josh Childress, Wilson Chandler, Jamal Crawford, Monta Ellis, Rudy Fernandez, Eric Gordan, Kevin Martin, George Hill, Iggy, Gerald Green, Delonte West, Courtney Lee, Greg Steimsma, Nick Young did NOT qualify (I can email the spread sheet to anyone who wants to see it as I have no idea how to get it to post-I tried several times and it looks awful). To be honest I have no interest in any of them as starters except Iggy or if they can be gotten cheap as backups.

The 4/5 I would like to sign and who should be cheap is Sean Williams. He is a young, athletic shotblocker who seems to have turned things around in the Dleague. My top wing targets would be Derrick Brown, Goran Dragic & Gerald Wallace. My preference would be get Dragic and draft Crowder with the pick and I don’t care between Wallace and Brown. This would put us at 13 players unless we trade D Williams and ? for ?...Iggy

Thoughts? (Sorry for the appearance-I suck at getting spreadsheet data on here to look good. I can email the spread sheet with all the data-to include guys who are not free agents- if you want to see it).

Canis Hoopus Why the love for Monta?

Why the sudden interest in Monta Ellis? I was under the impression that most stat people and Canis Hoopus members thought he wasn’t worth the money. At least that is the impression I always got until recently. I like him fine, but I don’t think he gives us anything special, especially at his price. He is a short SG, who takes a lot of shots, and isn’t known as any kind of defensive wiz. Yes he can get his own shot, but our perimeter D is already bad so I don’t really see his value when we have a guy like Beas who is not short and can get his own O and is still cheaper and younger (I know they play different positions).  My personal preference for a target is Iggy. I am throwing JR Smith out there as a guy who I think could be better for our team than Monta (and cheaper too) not necessarily as the guy we should get. JR isn’t undersized for SG and he plays better D. The guys I would like us to target for SG are Iggy, JR Smith, Afflalo, Thabo, and James Hardin. I think we could get one of them…maybe even 2 of them. Here are some stats to compare.

Regal FC Barcelona is the 2010 Euroleague champion! Barca downed Olympiacos 86-68 in the final before a packed house at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in the French capital to win its second Euroleague crown. Juan Carlos Navarro, the only remaining player from Barcelona’s 2003 Euroleague-winning squad, was named Final Four MVP after leading the charge with 21 points. Pete Mickeal added 14 and Fran Vazquez set a title game record with 4 blocked shots as the Barcelona defense limited the top scoring team in the Euroleague this season to 68 points, matching its season low. The Reds never led again after a 5-6 start as the Barcelona defense held Olympiacos below 20 points in all four quarter. Ricky Rubio added 9 points for the freshly crowned champs, led by head coach Xavi Pascual. Olympiacos, which beat Barcelona for its only Euroleague title in 1997, got 15 points from Josh Childress. Linas Kleiza added 13 points, Theo Papaloukas had 12 and new Euroleague MVP Milos Teodosic was held to 10.
