Kyle Gibson
I have been reading up on Kyle Gibson and I'm a little bit confused about the various reports I have gotten on his ceiling and his repetoire. I've read about what I would consider to be a middling fastball in terms of velocity (91-92MPH is where he sits), but I have also read that the ball sinks considerably (though it appears to have minimal side-to-side movement). I've read that his secondary offerings, the change and the curveball/slider, are both regarded as above-average pitches.
I guess what I'm curious about is whether or not Gibson projects as a front-of-the-rotation candidate, considering his lankiness and room for growth/projection, or if he is considered as more of a middle-of-the-rotation candidate with a relatively high floor and a medium ceiling considering his lack of a blazing fastball. Do people consider him to be a safe selection, an upside selection, both?
Curious to hear what others think, as I'm starting to reconsider my initial label on him as a safe, middle-of-the-rotation pitcher.
