Dirty Saints players? SI appears to finally realize this. And it only took them 2-3 years to figure out what we already knew.
Viking Fan Confidence Graph at top left of DN - we're back where we started.
I think it's a pretty sad thing that our Viking Fan Confidence graph (located at the top left of the DN site) shows fan confidence pretty much back to where it was before the season started. Ouch! Why is that? Skip below for my thoughts (such as they are):
We should or shouldn't pick up recently released Leigh Bodden (CB) from the Patriots?
I realize that our Vikings can't jump at every sad-sack (pun intended) case that gets cut during the season (or off) but considering our craptacular Secondary, particularly at CB, I'm wondering if we should try to pick up Leigh Bodden, the veteran CB who was just (surprisingly) released by the Patriots?
Predictions - Vikings vs Lions?
Vikings vs. Lions. One team is already in trouble this season from a standings perspective, the other appears to be hugely up-and-coming. What result do you expect? My thoughts, such as they are, after the jump...
Tell me why Jason La Canfora's article about the grim future of our Vikings this year, is wrong. Please.
As the headline of this fanpost reads, I've just read a very disturbing story by Jason La Canfora, from NFL.com (NFL Network Insider is his title) about why the Vikings are probably in trouble this year. It's full of stats, facts, and several impressions from those "in the know" around the league including other team's scouts and such like that. The link to this depressing story will be after the jump, but I'm just asking my fellow Viking fans to help me see why this guy could be wrong. He sounds pretty damning in this article about our chances. Either way, I'm going to say this here and now, regardless of how the rest of the season turns out, I love that Brett Favre is our QB and if he ends up having trouble the rest of the season, I still won't care because I'll always appreciate the amazing season he helped us have last year. Thanks, #4. SKOL VIKINGS!!
Should we be worried about the 2010 season?
As the subject line asks, should we be worried about our Minnesota Vikings in 2010 from a competitive and successful standpoint? I think that, unfortunately, we may have some very good reasons to be alarmed already. Reasons after the jump...
Prediction for Vikes/Cowboys and thoughts beyond this week's game.
Just my quick thoughts about tomorrow's game and a few short thoughts about what lies beyond that, should we pull off the victory. More after the jump...
Need an answer to a NFL Playoffs question.
I probably should know this by now but I don't so I'm reaching out to the vast Daily Norseman community of fine football minds to help answer my question. Which you will see after "The Jump."
Daily Norseman "Meet and Greet"
Despite the fact that some of us drive the rest of you folks nuts with our unrelenting rage and negativity (particularly when we choke away games we should win), I was thinking we should organize a Daily Norseman Meet and Greet. I think one of the reasons we occasionally get at each other's throats is that we don't have faces to match screen-names. In that type of situation, it's easy to get annoyed or even to misinterpret someone's tone and/or attitude.
So if we destroy da Bears, how much weight should it carry?
As the subject says, let's say we wipe the floor with the pitiful Bears. At this point and keeping in mind our awful, AWFUL game against Carolina (and earlier vs. the Cardinals), what should we take away from the game? Or will it matter exactly how such a victory might come about? Would that affect people's opinions as well?
Looking for some info on how the playoffs are set-up...
Wondering if someone can answer this question for me. How are the play-off organized? I ask because I occasionally pop over to check out "The Absurdly Premature Playoff Picture" blog post at Yahoo Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/The-absurdly-premature-playoff-picture-Week-10?urn=nfl,203407) and a few weeks back they had the Packers making the Playoffs but they were on the other side of the NFC playoff bracket branches (so to speak) - after this past week's win, they've been moved to a position where we'd have to play them BEFORE getting to the NFC Championship game (assuming that we hold true to form here and win the Division as it looks like we might).
What determines the exact positioning of wild-card teams in the brackets?
Are we due for a let-up against the lowly Lions??
UPDATE - Peter King actually calls the game correctly in his MMQB at SI (for the most part)
I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise to note that at least one early article summing up the game, Sports Illustrated's Recap, already fails to mention the Viking's mostly dominant performance and claims that the Steeler's defense badly outplayed us.
What's missing, as you may have already noticed, is the horrifically bad Referee decision to call "tripping" on Dugan that basically cost us a TD and allowed them to get the play that led to the fumble return for a TD (never even happens if the TD is scored as it should've been). Simply awful reporting. One can expect Peter King and probably Don "I love Green Bay" Banks to also follow suit and fail to mention the craptacular call that changed the game for the Vikes.
In all fairness, the Steelers took advantage of those turnovers, particularly the fluky ricocheted pass off of Taylor's hand, and congrats to them on their victory but it's hard for Viking's fans to stomach ensuing articles that entirely fail to report how the game actually unfolded.
-----------------------------------------
UPDATE (Monday Morning) - Well I'm pleased to note that Peter King actually had the cajones to call the game in his Monday Morning QB column mostly as it happened - noting the awful penalty and its potent affect on the game's results. He always properly notes that the Interception was an unlucky deflection. I was somewhat impressed.

Don Banks at it again, showing his clear bias based on where he lives...
In Today's (9/22/09) article by Don Bank (SI NFL writer), entitled:

Don Banks proves his bias yet again with this comment, posted below the Jump...
New Vikings buzz-word - FAVRIN' :)
I could use this fanpost to rip on Don Banks clearly idiotic ranking of the Packers (in both the last pre-season rankings and after the 1st game of the season) at #3 over the Vikings at #12 but I'll save my breath. His nose is so far up Cheeseland's, err, you know...that he'd never acknowledge it. (Go read his Quick thoughts article posted about 2 hours ago after most of the games today - it's like he can barely stand to give any credit to the Vikings - it's subtle, but it's definitely there if you look for it)
Anyway, just wanted to get everyone up to date on the cool new Vikings buzz-word (created by myself - patent pending). Brett Favre + Percy Harvin = FARVIN' !!! :D
SI still not willing to bet on Vikings - but in love with the Packers.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt most of the time. Really, I do. Someone cuts me off on the freeway and speeds off erratically into the distance? Maybe their wife was in the car and they're racing to the hospital. My favorite DVD has been "borrowed' for over 2 years by an acquaintance? Perhaps they're just really forgetful. And so on.
But I'm starting to honestly doubt the motivations and biases of some on the Sports Illustrated writing staff about the capabilities and potential of our Minnesota Vikings while simultaneously lifting "butt-kissing" to a new art-form where the Green Bay Packers are concerned. Today's preview and predictions articles on Sports Illustrated are nearly insulting in their lack of recognition for our Norse Warriors.
Great site!
First-time poster, long-time reader. :)
Hi fellow Vikings fans! Just wanted to throw up a post saying thanks to the creators of this fine site so that us fans have somewhere to read news and vent and joke around.
I'm torn on this recent Cutler news - on the one hand, despite his (apparently) lame attitude, he's a known solid QB, certainly an improvement on the two knuckleheads we have now (though I'm holding out hope on Sage, until proven otherwise). So it stinks that he went to the rival Bears. On the other hand, if our powers-that-be felt he was not worth the effort, perhaps he wasn't.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming season but without a strong QB, a good possession-style WR, and a good CB and RT, we could be in for a shorter season than anticipated. :( Here's to hoping we have a great Draft and/or makes some other good moves before the season starts.
