I saw this article earlier on the top of the ESPN College Football page and thought it sounded more interesting than any of David Ubben's articles so I decided to read through it. It was a little long, but it had a lot of interesting points about UCF's rise from the school's FOUNDING in 1968 through the football team's start in 1979. Later the article goes on to say about how the school has spent over a billion dollars recently to vault the school to new heights.

Those new heights include increasing their student enrollment by 12,000 from 2004 through 2010 (to a total of 56,235!), going from being a commuter school to an actual university, building all new sports complexes, having their football team win 11 games this past year, and having their football, mens basketball, and both soccer teams ranked in the top 25 in the past few years.

This school just seems to know what it wants, and how it wants to go about getting those results. I just wanted to see what all of you thought and why our school, which has been around for almost 90 years, isn't being as proactive and more reactive.

Now, our situation is a little different, but i don't think that we should just NOW be trying to go all out to become tier 1. That should have been our plan years and years ago. I don't know though. Discuss away.

Double-T Nation ESPN Blue Ribbon Review

I know that mentioning ESPN on here is not a good idea as of late.  But in this case, the review they gave of our team this year is actually not that bad.  Plus, ours and Colorado's are the only Blue Ribbon reviews that are free!  There are some mistakes; but, if you read some of the comments, i'm pretty sure that they've all been pointed out already.  Overall it's a fairly in-depth overview of our Offense, Defense, Special Teams, Newcomers, and an overall About and Analysis sections.  I'd say it's worth the time it takes to read it.:

[Note by Seth C, 07/09/10 5:59 AM CDT ] I redacted quite a bit of the article because we're not supposed to copy and paste an entire article.  That's bad internet mojo.  Go here to read the rest, and as always, make sure that before you post, it hasn't been posted already in the FanPosts or FanShots (as this was already a FanShot).  It would help me keep DTN nice and tidy.

ABOUT:

It was one strange offseason in Lubbock.

Mike Leach put Tech on the national map with his record-breaking passing attack, his fourth-down decisions, his brash pre- and post-game commentary and his love affair with pirates.

He also won like crazy in Lubbock, and things hit a crescendo in 2008 when the Red Raiders upset No. 1 Texas in Lubbock and for a moment looked like they would play for a national championship.

Things fell apart last year as Leach was suspended for the Alamo Bowl because of controversy surrounding his alleged mistreatment of one his players, and he was fired on Dec. 30, 2009.

Enter former Ole Miss and Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who after a year away from coaching brings a different style to the High Plains. Tuberville is a more traditional coach who made his name in the Southeastern Conference, where running the ball and playing a physical game are the winning ticket. Tuberville has promised since he took the job that the Red Raiders' air attack will continue to be a big part of Texas Tech football.
