DBD 11.19.10: The Cardinal Be Damned. Go to Bonfire.
Go to Bonfire. Join 10,000 other Californians in getting the Spirit of California all riled up for Big Game.
The Rally Committee is responsible for building and burning down the largest bonfire west of the Mississippi. Thousands upon thousands of students, faculty, alumni, and Cal fans fill the entire Greek Theater to witness one of the most dramatic, inspiring, and moving rallies. And did we mention the HEAT?! Members spend the entire Friday of Big Game Week building the structure of pallets, preparing for the fire that reaches almost four stories high! Many alumni come to speak and share stories of Big Games past, while the football team makes a quick visit, many different groups perform, cries of “Freshmen More Wood!” are heard all night long, and the entire theater sits in the glow of candlelight as the fires dies down.
Tickets will be handed out starting at 5:30pm outside the Greek Theatre.
Doors open at 6:00! There are LIMITED TICKETS available, so be sure to snag your seat early. Tickets are FREE!!

It's officially Big Game Week! Here is a full schedule of the week's activities.
Today, listen for the Cal Band along the Powell-Hyde cable car line in San Francisco between 11:15 and noon, as the band'll be serenading the City on their way to Union Square for a noon rally across the Bay. If you can make it, go and take photos! I couldn't find any from past years on Flickr. If you can't go, enjoy the video and wish you were there.
Also, if you show up to Ghirardelli Square between 9 and 11AM, you can possibly enjoy some ice cream with your excellent Cal Spirit groups.
Happy Big Game Week, the Cardinal be Damned, and Go Bears!
Happy Big Game Week, Bears!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! The Campanile's blue, Sather Gate is lit, and the Axe is on the line (along with bowl eligibility and pride and whatnot). For a full list of the events for the week, check out the link above (or here)!
At the very least, in addition to the game, come to Bonfire to celebrate the things we have that Stanfurd does not (the Axe, a real mascot, a bonfire rally, etc).
Happy Big Game Week, the Cardinal be damned, and Go Bears!
Cal vs. UCLA Card Stunts. Go Bears!
Joe Kapp on campus Monday 4/12 at noon!
"Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Maraniss, author of biographies of Vince Lombardi and Roberto Clemento, discusses sports, the press, and American culture. With special guest Joe Kapp, former Cal coach and NFL quarterback."
WHEN/WHERE: 12-1:30 in the library in North Gate Hall.
If you haven't heard Joe Kapp speak, it's well worth your time. If you do go, take notes, and report back! There's bound to be hilarity.
DBD 11.20.09 The Cardinal be Damned.
[To the tune of "Ramblin' Wreck"]
'Twas a warm November 20th in 1982,
The Stanfurd Banned was on the field,
They thought the Bear was through.
But the clock read just four seconds
And we kept the ball alive,
and said, "Eat shit, you Stanfurdites--
It's 20-25!"
Twenty-seven years ago, this happened. CalBear81 has this recap of an event from two years ago (I was there too! But, no notes from me) featuring some pretty sweet perspectives from Joe Starkey and the ever Cal-spirited Joe Kapp. Not every school has a moment like this, so make sure to spread the good news to get those around you in a "Fuck Stanfurd" sort of mood.
In other news, tomorrow is Big Game. Fuck that shit from last year about every game counting. One game counts, and that's the game for the Axe. Whether it's a 1-win or a 10-win season, all I know is that if we beat Stanfurd, there's a bright spot in the season.
Spend today/tonight getting all riled up against Stanfurd.Come out to the Bonfire Rally, (which'll probably be one of the last great ones), and join the ten-thousand people gathered to celebrate the Spirit of California. Go to San Francisco and party with Cal Band. Sit in your dorm/apartment/house and listen to Cal songs while you study. *Whatever* you do, do it for Cal, against Stanfurd. It's Big Game Week. Shit's going down.
The Cardinal be damned, boys,
The Cardinal be damned.
The Cardinal be damned, boys,
The Cardinal be damned.
If any Stanfurd son of a bitch
Don't like the blue and gold,
He can pucker up his rosy lips,
And kiss the Bear's asshole.
I'm pretty glad no one ever reads the DBD.

Come to the 112th Big Game Bonfire Rally!
Every year this rally gets a bit more difficult to put on, so come on out to the Greek Theater and enjoy the fire and the rally while they're as glorious as they ought to be. Lord knows how much longer the Rally Committee will be able to put Bonfire on before regulations restrict it from happening.
Doors open at 6, the rally starts at 7. Come early if you want seats within the stone section of the Greek. The event's free and open to anyone who'd like to come and get riled up in the Spirit of California.
Go Bears, Beat Stanfurd, Keep the Axe. Happy Big Game Week!

Personally, I am a fan of any argument based on the "it's those darned teenagers playing on them Internets all the time, learning how to subvert justice from watching them movies" premise. Go Bears.
Also, it's Friday the 13th. Spoooooooooky.
WSU@Cal card stunts.
Touchdown Mondays are back again!
Yes, technically they happened last Monday, but after three weeks without a discount at the student store, one week wasn't enough to heal the pain.
Just a heads up: TODAY at the student store in honor of our the seven touchdowns, the student store is offering 25% off on all clothing and gifts for students! Remember: having more Cal gear is much more important than making sure you're well-fed for the week.
Go Bears!

Sure a blue-out's nice and all, but it's not nearly as impressive as the student section all wearing white. As visual evidence, photos from the 1922 Big Game:
And, evidence that it worked: California - 398; Opponents - 34.
