Fantasy Football Discussion THread
Sorry if this is "not allowed", but I thought it would be fun to have some trash talking for Week 1 of our fantasy football league.
I am up again The Clan of Soman this week, and I have to say my team sucks due to me missing the draft. Hopefully Frank Gore and Jamaal Charles are ready to do work today to make up for my terrible receivers (Housh, Collie, and Braylon Edwards...)
Soman is coming at me with Alex Smith, Michael Turner, Ronnie Brown, Mike Sims-Walker, and Michael Crabtree. Good luck this week.
Anyone interested in giving me a solid wideout? Justin Forsett or any of my running backs can go...

Evan Turner Says Struggles Were 'An Eye-Opener'
76ers rookie Evan Turner struggled mightily in the Orlando Summer League and says that getting his "butt kicked" was "an eye-opener" for him.
Turner appeared to struggled from a lack of conditioning in Orlando and got frustrated as the week went on.
"I've been playing pretty much every day against good competition," Turner said.
"It was really an eye-opener for me to get my butt kicked, but it was also a good thing, I think. That hasn't happened to me in a really long time, so it made me realize how much harder I had to work to get myself ready for training camp. I can't wait to get started and play with my new teammates and learn from them, and get ready for the season."

A FanPost I Made In October, 2009
It is about trading McNabb and Westbrook. Now obviously we did not end up trading Westbrook, but look at some of the comments that were posted on that at the time. And look at what two players are no longer Eagles.
Andy Reid holding up Donovan McNabb trade
FOX Philly - Eagles coach Andy Reid is the only member of the team's front office that is holding up a trade involving Donovan McNabb, according to FOX Philly.
Reports have indicated that McNabb could be dealt soon and sources told FOX 29 that the Rams, contrary to popular belief, aren't one of the interested teams
76ers Don't Want Brand, Amare Together
The 76ers are in talks with the Suns regarding forward Amare Stoudemire, but general manager Ed Stefanski reportedly doesn't want the All-Star alongside Elton Brand.
Philadelphia's reported offer for the Phoenix star involves Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert.
"Stefanski doesn't want Stoudemire and [Elton] Brand together," one source said.
Philadelphia hasn't been pro-active about trying to get a three-team deal going.
"A three-way would take effort on their part," one league official said, "and they haven't shown much of that yet."
Trade McNabb and Westbrook?
Call me crazy, but I think the Eagles should start looking to trade Westbrook and/or McNabb [not right now, but maybe at the end of the year]. We have seen the future of our team this season; from Kolb having two 300+ yard passing games, McCoy being a solid rusher, Jeremy Maclin, Desean Jackson, and Brent Celek all excellent receiving options. McNabb is still having a great year and I am not giving up on Westbrook just yet, but right now is the time to deal them and still get top value for them. The longer we let them age and get injured, the less value we will end up getting in the trade market for them. Many teams would jump at the opportunity to get an elite NFL QB in McNabb, and a playmaker in Westbrook. Westbrook has not had much offensive success this season, and neither has the running game in general. Kolb looks like he is ready to start in the NFL, I was very impressed by him.
In return, I think the Eagles should look to get some draft picks to continue to go young, defensive linemen/linebacker who can rush the passer well, a safety, another running back to add depth to the backfield, anything. As long as they are younger players so we continue to build this team through youth. Our offense is filled with young weapons who look like they will be great together for years, so why not start that now? The Packers made a similar decision a couple years ago when Aaron Rodgers was ready to start but they still had Brett Favre. Not saying that is the same situation right now, but it could turn into it.
Pitt Sweeps Series With UConn
Pitt beat UConn for the second time this year today. Is there any doubt that Pitt is the best team in the country right now? You guys think UConn still gets a number one seed?
In my mind, Pitt showed they are the best team in the nation today. Blair got in foul trouble and Fields was hobbling around the court, but Sam Young and Brad Wanamaker stepped up and led Pitt to the victory. They were able to slow down Thabeet enough to get the win.
I think UConn still deserves a number one seed. They are still one of the top four teams in the country. I think the number one seeds should be Pitt, UNC, UConn, and Oklahoma (assuming UNC, OK, and either Pitt/ UConn wins their conferences tournies).
Villanova Best Recruiting Class in the Nation?
Villanova has had great success with recruiting this year, as they have already signed on four players in the top 50 of the ESPNU 100. Let's look into their signings and what they bring to the table for the Wildcats next season.
1. Dominic Cheek, Shooting Guard
Cheek attends St. Anthony's high school in New Jersey. He is ranked as the fifth best shooting guard recruit and the fifteenth best recruit overall. St. Anthony's is one of the top basketball high schools in the nation so therefore Cheek has been forced to be a team player with so much talent around him. He needs to improve his dribble drive so he can better penetrate the basket. Cheek is a very good defender, using his quickness and athleticism to stay in front of opposing ball handlers.
2. Maalik Wayns, Point Guard
Wayns attends nearby Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He is ranked as the third best point guard and number 20 overall. Wayns is a very good ball handler and passer, always looking to get his teammates involved in the game. He is a great leader on the court and plays with a lot of intensity. He will need to improve on his long range jumper.
3. Mouphtauo Yarou, Power Forward
Yarou attends Montrose Christian School in Maryland. He is ranked as the 10th best power forward and number 27 overall. Yarou has great size, at 6'9" and 240 pounds, that enables him to play strong around the basket. He is a great inside scorer and great rebounder. Yarou will need to get in better shape because he sometimes labors up and down the floor but his effort is there and usually he ends up where he is supposed to be.
4. Isaiah Armwood, Power Forward
Armwood plays alongside Yarou at Montrose Christian School. He is smaller than Yarou, at 6'8" and 195 pounds, but is faster and much better in transition. Armwood is an outstanding athlete who is a good rebound and can provide matchup nightmares for bigger and less athletic power forwards. He has a nice midrange jumper but will need to improve his shot from beyond the arc.
Early Look at the Sixers' Draft
The Sixers main need this offseason will be at both guard spots. If Andre Miller leaves, that leaves a hole at the point guard position. The Sixers could also use an upgrade at shooting guard with Willie Green as the starter. Lou Williams may be ready to start this year, but the Sixers could use a quality guy at both spots.
Here are three guards who are projected to go late lottery-end of first round who could end up with the Sixers:
1. Stephen Curry
If you're into March Madness Betting, you probably know Curry as the guy who singlehandedly ruined your bracket last year. There have been many complaints about Curry's size and athletic ability that lead people to assume his success in college may not translate well to the NBA. Curry end up being a role player his whole career, but he would provide great scoring off the bench. He has nice range and leadership ability, and is one of the nation's top scorers once again this season.
2. Ty Lawson
Lawson is the leader of one of the top teams in the country this season in North Carolina. He led the Tarheels past rival Duke scoring 21 points in the second half to lead a comeback turned blowout. He has the speed, quickness, strength, and ball handling ability to be a great late first round steal.
3. Eric Maynor
Maynor is a small school guy from Virginia Commonwealth who has gone a little under the radar. He is a great clutch performer who excells in pressure packed situations. He has the size (6'3") and the speed to be a great guard in the NBA. Maynor has an unorthodox shot release which can result in allowing defenders more time to disrupt the shot, but that has not been much of a problem this season.
