5 Hr's in one week, not too bad.
| No. 1 BRETT WALLACE, 3B |
ATHLETICS |
Team: Triple-A Sacramento (Pacific Coast)Age: 22 Why He's Here: .419/.486/.935 (13-for-31), 5 HR, 1 2B, 9 RBIs, 9 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 1-for-2 SB The Scoop: Trading Wallace to the A's for Matt Holliday could well be the move that propels the Cardinals to another World Series championship, but Wallace gave his old team a powerful reminder of what they gave up this week. Wallace homered on consecutive nights against his old club, Memphis, where he'd played from early May through the trade in late July. He didn't stop there, homering three more times over the next two nights in Nashville. Overall, Wallace has recorded base hits in 11 of his last 12 games and, in just his first full season as a pro, has shown his bat is already advanced enough to handle Triple-A. He's batting .306/.361/.556 with seven home runs in 108 at-bats since the trade and .297/.351/.467 with 13 long balls for the season in the PCL. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/prospect-hot-sheet/2009/268728.html |

Okay, this is getting crazy. Time to pull the trigger! (Latest from MLBTR.com)
Latest from MLBTR.com
- · The A's are continuously interested in Orlando Cabrera, Adam Dunn, and Abreu.
- Bobby Abreu may have to settle for a one or two year deal at $3MM. Cafardo lists the Angels, Mets, Braves, Dodgers, and Mariners.
For 1 year at 3 million dollars there is no reason in the world not sign Abreu, even if it is just for the simple fact it keeps him off the Angels. Depth, especially on the A’s is not a bad thing.
Besides the fact putting that the Gambino at first, Cust in the OF and a DH of Areu is not the best defensive line up, but Sweeny/ Buck, Suzuki, Chavy, Holiday, Cust, Gambino, Abreu (what ever order you want) is a pretty damn good line up that I’m sure our young pitching staff would love to have.
Please give one good reason that Bobby should not be an A for a 3 million one year contract.

I take this as the A's will add one or the other.
The latest from Ken Rosenthal...
- The A's probably cannot afford both Nick Johnson and Orlando Cabrera, so they'll wait to see what happens with Cabrera before pursuing the trade with Washington.
Sounds like the A's priority number 1 is Cabrera but if the BB express cannot acquire him at the price he wants he’ll go after Nick Johnson.
Johnson would be a nice add, but for D. Barton? Everything I have heard and read from inside the organization is everyone thinks he will turn out to be a stud, even after his disappointing rookie season.

A's Rumors: Abreu, Cabrera, Barton
For what's it's worth here are the lastest Oakland A's rumors;
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle has the latest on the A's.
- The Jason Giambi press conference is scheduled for today. Joe Dillon was designated for assignment to make room.
- Slusser believes Billy Beane will take a look at Bobby Abreu and/or Orlando Cabrera if their price tags slip.
- Daric Barton is drawing trade interest, with the Nationals a possibility.

11:49 a.m. — Astros willing to move Tejada
11:49 a.m. — Astros willing to move Tejada
The Astros are "barely" listening to offers for closer Jose Valverde, according to a major-league source, who said "he's about the last guy they want to move."
Shortstop Miguel Tejada is another story. The Astros are willing to trade him, and are drawing interest from several teams, including some with openings at both shortstop and third base. The Twins are one team that fits that description.
Tejada is guaranteed $13 million next season and the Astros recognize that they would need to assume a portion of that salary in any trade. The Giants and Angels are among the other teams that could have interest.

Will the A's make an offer for Miggy Magic? You know he would love to come back. What do the Astros’s want in return?
Could this be the return of Giambi and Miggy, to bad this is not five years ago.

ESPN rumor (untrue it appears): Harden shut down until after the break?
Did anyone else hear this report on the A's pregame and ESPN?
I know he looked hurt in his last two starts, but would Bean Knowingly trade a player that is headed for the DL?
If anyone else has heard this or seen this can you post a link?
I wish nothing for the best for Harden and hope he is able to make this start. Plus it would be fun to see shut down the Giants again.

Let them know
fitzandbrooks@knbr.com, razorandmrt@knbr.com, lee.hammer@cumulus.com, murphandmac@knbr.com
The more letters we send, the more they have to talk about the A's. It has to start somewhere, why not here and now? Here is a copy of a letter I sent today to KNBR.
Please let them know, we want to hear more A's talk.....
OK,
I know that KNBR has contract with the Giants, which must be a huge contract, but just like it’s time to send Barry Zito and his 126 million dollar contract to Fresno, it’s time to start talking about the first place A’s.
The Romans ultimately found the slaughtering in the coliseum inhuman; we too are finding the perpetual losing of the Giants inhuman. Turning into 680 now, is like walking into a hospital’s nursery who has run out of formula days ago whanna, whanna.
Please stop the bleeding, break out the binoculars look across the bay. “Oh my! What’s this we see a first place team with a great future, hey I don’t see one laptop or cell phone, hey Brian do you know at the coliseum they actually watch the team play.”
Don’t be the guy who signs a below avg. pitcher to the highest contract ever, opps, sorry. What I mean is, stay ahead of the curve, a new stadium, a good team, incredible future, great true fan base and in two years the World Series will come through Oakland, okay, okay through Fremont.
Don’t be the guy who sold the last place Giants a contract for ten years when you have a World Series competitor for years to come just miles away.
Make a clean break, here is an outline that can answer all the Giant’s callers questions for the rest of the year.
1) No, Zito does not know what the pitchers mound looks like in the fifth inning.
2) Yes, a 126 million dollars goes a LONG way in Fresno
3) Yes, Molina can get thrown out at first on a base hit to right field and can make a hit into triples alley a close play at second
4) Yes, Both Cain or Linchcum can win Cy young’s
5) No, Unfortunately it won’t be until after they leave the Giants, Cy Young say’s 5-12 2.30 ERA doesn’t cut it.
Seriously, I do know KNBR has a contract with the Giants, but if Drano gave you a contract to sell baby formula would try and sell that too?
Year after year the A’s make the playoffs or contend until the last month of the season. Unfortunately, the only thing that gets broadcasted is the 5 consecutive losing seasons of the Giants. The only reason I still tune in is to hear the occasional “Go Sharks.”
In all seriousness; You do have a great station, I love all the shows equally and have listened everyday for years now, yes even in February. You have a great young fun team in first place miles away, just something to consider.
