The UConn Blog Michigan Fan Here, A Few Questions

Dear all,

Hi, I'm a Michigan fan. I've had a lot of fun reading your site, and agree with the general sentiment -- expressed both here and in the national sports public sphere -- that y'all have a class program, a great coach, and lots to look forward to.

That said, it is almost time for HATE WEEK. I figured I'd try and slip a few words in edgewise before I'm seeing too deep a shade of red to think; if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask them here and I'll answer as best I can. Thus, without further ado, a few questions about your team heading into the season:

I was sorry to see y'all suffer some injuries in the ranks of the front seven; as you have surely read, we lost our only upperclassman in the defensive backfield to ankle surgery, so it might be the case that both teams have some worried fans headed into the 2010 season.

1. What did your D-line depth chart look like headed into the season? Were Campbell and Lloyd expected to start at DE, with the guys currently projected to start (Joseph and Reyes) in the two-deep but viewed as situational/substitution players only?

2. Your linebackers have been practicing together as a unit since the spring, right? Or was Lloyd's move something that took place between spring ball and the commencement of two-a-days in August?

3. I can't figure out what happened with your secondary. Did you move a linebacker to strong safety, and a safety to corner? Or do I have one of those position moves reversed?

4. What was up with the numbers your QB posted in the spring game? Like most people, I hesitate to predict DOOM or 'SHIP on the basis of spring games, but it looked like the secondary got thrown on. Particularly disturbing, for me (especially as a Michigan fan who watched the worst statistical performance in the history of defensive football at Michigan last year), would be YAC, broken tackles, that kind of a thing. Did you see much of that, or were the video game numbers Frazer put up kind of fluke-y?

Whatever happens with the Michigan game, best of luck for the rest of the season -- I think the BEast might be yours for the taking, the way you played last year. Just beat Pitt.

best
