Halos Heaven Salt Lake Bees vs. Reno Aces 4/12/10

As a newcomer to the Reno / Tahoe area, I was psyched to find a first-class AAA team in the Pacific Coast League in the Reno Aces - mainly so I can check out visiting Angels prospects on a regular basis. I got my first chance last night as the Salt Lake Bees visited. If you're ever tempted to visit Reno and do a little gambling, it's a great city, gorgeous ball park and you have easy access to the players. Robb Quinlan looked at me in my Angels hat and smiled - I resisted asking him if he ever checked out Halos Heaven and saw someone's comment about him, Scioscia and NAMBLA. (That one cracked me up, by the way.)

I don't have an in-depth report other than to say that it was super cold and the Bees looked awful in every phase of the game. Reckling is pitching tonight, so I'm tempted to go back and get a peek at him - but maybe I'll wait for a warmer date this summer. Anyway, here are a few photos from last night to give you a feel for the flavor.

DeHoyos looked good for a while, but then it all fell apart. He gave up one homer on a pitch left up too high, and the rest was just the Aces pecking away.

Albano_medium

"Captain" Albano looked good in the bullpen but they pretty much teed off on him.

The ball park for the Reno Aces is downtown, with the colorful lights of the casinos in the background and the Sierra Nevada Mount ains looming over it all.

The Phinsider Miami cheerleaders photo spread

Check out this photo essay on Miami Dolphins cheerleaders:

* Drool *

Does it piss anyone off that someone actually has the job of photographing cheerleaders? And it's probably a woman or a gay man who doesn't appreciate what they are looking at. Which is probably a good thing because I would drop the camera and just start groping them. That would be a different set of photos - cheerleaders beating the crap out of Zim. Still, they can do what they want with me.

* sigh *

The Phinsider Jason Garrett is overrated.

It seems like Jason Garrett has had a halo around his head for the last couple of years. Dallas pays something like $3 million for him to be offensive coordinator, making a quick strike so other teams don't grab him as head coach. Then this year he's interviewed all over the place and commentators always refer to him being one of these young gun brilliant dudes.

So that got me to wondering: what has he ever really accomplished? He was Miami's QB coach when the team sucked and they got nothing out of that position. Then he inherited a juggernaut offense at Dallas and it's only gotten worse.

I'm probably wrong about this, so somebody explain it to me.

I was wrong about Pasqualoni, because it sure as hell seemed like he destroyed Syracuse, but dude ended up being brilliant this year and now HIS name is out there for the KC job. So that's another question: who do we get if Pasqualoni leaves?

The Phinsider NY papers - hilarious

I love it. One pick from Favre and these guys will be rooting for the Dolphins.

The Phinsider Joe Horn a free agent

Joe Horn is a free agent... says the Palm Beach Post

I'm a bit conflicted about whether he's a good fit for Miami. He's old, but so is Terry Glenn and the guy must still have something in the tank. I'm not that impressed with our receivers. Could Sparano and crew keep him from being a cancer? They've done a nice job with Joey Porter so far...

What do you guys think?
