Nobody Puts Rexy in the Corner
Fun Little post over at the fan house.
7. Rex Grossman is Hopeless.
I'm Jumping. Last year, there was Good Rex and Bad Rex, and generally, if Good Rex showed up, the Bears won. In games where Bad Rex showed up, they were still around .500.
So far in 2007, only Bad Rex exists ... and the Bears are .500.
There are seven players who have thrown passes in the NFL this year that have QB ratings lower than Rex Grossman's. They are: J.T. O'Sullivan, Tarvaris Jackson, Ronald Curry, Luke McCown, Anthony Wright, Charlie Frye, and Kerry Collins. This not is hallowed company.
I honestly believe that if Lovie Smith showed up for a game hammered one Sunday and opted to make every third offensive play the Bears ran a 60-yard bomb, that Rex, Lovie, and everyone in Chicago would be much happier.
But the more interceptions Rex throws, the more the Bears want to bail out and make him a dinker-dunker in the mold of Jeff Garcia, and that's just not his game. It strips away his confidence, he becomes timid, he holds on to the ball too long, and he makes bad decisions ... and the more he does this, the less likely Lovie Smith is to just let Rex get loose back there. It's a vicious cycle.
Rex is like Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing ... you want him to be like everyone else, but he'll just sit in the corner and wilt. But if Lovie Smith were to take his hand, point to a 50-yard post play on his wristband, and say "Nobody puts Rexy in a corner," then Good Rex could surface once again.
Won't happen, though.

Keyshawn to Bears?
Very interesting thing developed for Keyshawn over the weekend and had to pretty much publicly be cordial to the guy that just took his job. More of that over on Deadspin.
http://deadspin.com/sports/how-do-you-feel-now-that-you.ve-taken-my-job%3F/keyshawns-final-moments-a s-a-panther-257079.php
But hypothetically speaking would a guy like keyshawn be a good fit for the Bears offense, another quality ball control type receiver with size could never hurt? could it?

Bellyachin'
I'm really gettin tired of alot of you sissies bad mouthing Grossman, and Lovie Smith for having faith in him. Last time I checked QB's dont grow on trees, they don't pop up out of nowhere, they don't become MVP's with their first full season of starting, so why are we willing to run ours out of town? How bout we all take a step back and look what we did in the past year, umm lead a team to a 13-3 record, the best in the NFC, home field advantage. Could we really ask more, oh wait, you would rather greise, someone who hasnt really played all season and led the former super bowl champion Tampa Bucs to how many super bowls riiiight? Weigh your options "bears fans". I think it's amazing we could come so far and still have so little faith, we weren't supposed to do anything this season anyway, and here we are, hopefully you are all wrong and this is the beginning of a dynasty, but it seems you are ready to dump our QB for the first best free agent that comes along. Where is that goin to put us , probably with the fishes, or worse yet, the Dolphins.

Which Chicago team will Beat Miami By More?
Well Da Bulls laid down the gauntlet this week smacking up last years champs Miami Heat by 42 points. I never thought the Bulls would pull off a bigger win against Miami than the Bears might be able to put up. So what do you think can the Bears match a similar beatdown on Dolphins? Or will Miami be thirsty for a bit of revenge? A good week to be a Chicagoan? Chicagoian? Chicagan? Not as good to be a Miami...umm -ite?

Not Looking Good for Manning Jr.
As Mike Terico touched upon (maybe in too much detail last night) Ricky Manning Jr. is going before the league this week to see what punishment (if any) the league should hand out for his assault charges. The league gave out two pretty heavy suspensions today, with Koren Robinson suspended for a year for substance abuse, and Shaun Rodgers of the Lions suspend for four games for shootin up some 'roids, the new comish is showing he has an iron hand so I'm thinkin we will be missin Manning for a couple. Thoughts? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2628459

It's getting harder to knitpick these days, but...
..sometimes I really dont think people at ESPN know too much about football. From the "Last Call" section of ESPN
"Grossman didn't appear to make many mistakes with the exception of taking a first-down sack in the first quarter."
Another silly thing to say and reaching by critics to say at least one bad thing about our QB. I remember Ditka saying, "Interceptions kill you, sacks don't". I remember a play against Minnesota that looked eerily similar to that play. Grossman dropped straight back into the endzone threw off his back foot, and was picked off for the Vikings only Touchdown of the game. Taking that sack in the first quarter of the Seahawks game was a sign of Rex's ability to learn, rapidly.

Mark Schlereth You're on Notice
I'm probably paying way too much attention to Bears coverage lately, but I did notice that Mark Schlereth of ESPN really has a problem with giving the Bears any credit at all. Not only did he pick against the Bears in thier first two games (I mean picking the PACKERS to beat us! Sheesh!), now he has railed against the bears again denying them any credit in the recent "FACT or FICTION." When asked, The Bears are the most complete team in the NFL right now:

Chicago Bears Bar in NYC??
I live in New York, and am getting really really tired of watching the Jet/Giants games every weekend. I did some searching around the internets, but couldn't find a Bears bar in New York. I'm pretty sure it exists. I was out and about on Sunday and saw an Eagles bar, which was fun, the jubilation on my first pass, the miserable faces of defeat on my return trip. Anyway, if any knows of the bears bar in the NYC metro it would be greatly appreciated if you pass on the information.

Bears Rank 13th
ESPN.com has their preseason power rankings up, with the Bears way down the middle of the pack at number 13.
The Bears gave up only 12.6 points per game last season and the defense might have to be just as good this year if they want to go back to the playoffs.
With the Seahawks(1), Panthers(5), Cowboys(7), Redskins(10), and Giants(11) as the NFC teams ranking ahead of the Bears. Now I may be mistaken, but can't the defense afford be 75% as good as they were last year, and have the offense be only 20% better and we would still be a lot better of a team than last year.
