Vernon Forrest's Murder: Suspect Caught and Charged
Brian Kenny v. Floyd Mayweather Jr. on SportsCenter. Kenny grills, Mayweather goes on the defensive, and magic happens.
Mayweather on Sportscenter
Brian Kenny is/was interviewing the Floyd Mayweather on ESPN's Sportscenter right now.
He was really on him on various issues. He called him he the former P4P Champ, which he didn't agree with. He asked why he waited for the Manny/Hatton weekend to return to boxing. He also asked why is he fighting a junior lightweight instead of a welterweight. It was pretty cool to see him grill him and Floyd like always is on the defensive. He ducked several questions and then got mad at Kenny. I got to give props to Kenny for not backing down.
I am sure there will be video later on about it.
Golden Boy launches monthly boxing series
Here is an interesting bit of news. I know some of you are aware that GBP has fights on HBO Latin America, Daniel Ponce De Leon as the most recent example but now they are comitting themselves to a new boxing series on Versus.
Golden Boy Promotions is launching a new monthly boxing series that will be televised on the VERSUS cable network and streamed live on the internet, beginning on June 11, the Los Angeles-based promotional company announced with series partner AEG on Friday.
The series, called "Fight Night Club", will take place at Club Nokia at LA LIVE across the street from STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles and will feature up-and-coming prospects in an upscale and intimate club setting.
The monthly club show will not only be televised nationally on VERSUS (9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT) but it will be streamed live (and archived) on RingTV.com and Yahoo! Boxing, and thus be available to fight fans worldwide in an on-demand basis.
"'Fight Night Club' will focus on the future stars of this game and will show everyone just how champions are made," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "Some of the best fights I've ever seen have taken place at small club shows and now we have the opportunity to bring those fights to the world."

Angulo needs another opponent as Perez pulls out
FanPost front paged by SC.
BoxingScene.com has been informed that Danny Perez (34-5, 17KOs) has withdrawn from his upcoming fight with junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo (14-0, 11KOs) scheduled for the February 14 HBO televised tripleheader from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Perez is the second opponent to pull out in less than two weeks. Last week, former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga pulled out after a reported injury claim, which turned out to be a move for more money.
...
"I heard two stories. One person said he has problems making the weight and another person said it has to do with money," Shaw told BoxingScene.com. "I am hunting for a replacement."
It seems very questionable if Angulo could get a respectable opponent that HBO will sign off on in less than a weeks noticed.
Andrei Arlovski debut in Boxing.
Here is some interest tidbit from Dan Rafael insider chat.
"David (CA): arlovski is on the under card of williams vs wright, right?
Dan Rafael: (12:15 PM ET ) Yes."
Joel (NY): Will Arlovski's debut fight be televised you think dan?
Dan Rafael: (12:21 PM ET ) No, it won't be part of HBO's broadcast.
He will most likely face a tomato can but given the sad state of the heavyweight division which used to be the glory division( which is now the welterweight division) of boxing perhaps Andrei can make a mark on boxing. He is considered one of the best strikers in the MMA world and according to top trainer Freddy Roach has the technical skills to excel in the sport. It will also be interesting if HBO mentions it given that Golden Boy's involvement with Affliction.
MMA star Andrei Arlovski on the Williams-Wright undercard
FanPost frontpaged by SC.
Interesting tidbit from Dan Rafael's weekly chat:
"David (CA): arlovski is on the under card of williams vs wright, right?Dan Rafael: (12:15 PM ET ) Yes."
Just in case no one knows, he is one of the world's best MMA fighters who just recently headlined the Affliction's Day of Reckoning. No word on who he will face.
Most likely it will be a tomato can but his boxing coach is Freddie Roach, and Roach says that he is skilled enough to make an impact in the heavyweight division. He is considred one of the best strikers in MMA. It will be interesting to see if HBO mentions it before or after the telecast given Golden Boy's relationship with Affliction.
Ricardo Mayorga withdraws from fight with Alfredo Angulo
From BoxingScene.com:
Promoter Gary Shaw has informed BoxingScene.com that former two-division champion Ricardo Mayorga has withdrawn from his February 14 bout with unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo
Shaw tells BoxingScene that as soon as he heard Mayorga was pulling out, he began working around the clock to secure a suitable replacement.
"I am working on getting someone right now. We have to be careful with switching up an opponent with only twelve-days notice. I would fight Cornelius Bundrage. I would fight Alfonso Gomez. There are a few other names," Shaw said.
Additional comments by SC:
I'm sure that Shaw (Angulo's promoter) would gladly put Bundrage or Gomez in there, because neither of them are a a threat to Angulo, particularly Gomez. Bundrage is the better fight there, but we're talking about what was supposed to be an HBO main event. I'd assume Campbell-Funeka will move up to main event status, with Angulo's fight bumped down, potentially to the televised opener, given that Martinez-Cintron is a better fight than what Shaw will be able to find on 11 days' notice.
This is also hardly surprising, given that Mayorga no-showed the promotional event in Florida last week. One wonders (1) if Mayorga is anywhere close to in shape and (2) if Ricardo simply got cold feet.
Vitali Klitschko-Juan Carlos Gomez to be televised by ESPN
FanPost promoted to the front page by SC
Via Dan Rafael's Notebook from ESPN...
• There will be American television coverage of Vitali Klitschko's heavyweight title defense against mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Gomez on March 21 in Stuttgart, Germany. The bout will air live on ESPN at 5 p.m. ET, ESPN boxing programming director Doug Loughrey said. Klitschko's team had been approached about putting the bout on pay-per-view in the United States, but elected to take less money for far wider exposure on ESPN.
ESPN image of the week...
Well they just announced the Bud Light Freeze frame image of the week and guess who won??? Well this past weekends fight provided with this stunning picture

Nice to see to get some love from ESPN. They have really put a new found focus on the sport. We have mentioned it before on this blog but there seems to be someone at Sportscenter that loves boxing and is always putting some attention to the sport.
Lonely on Valentine Day? Fear Not... HBO comes to rescue you.
Recent reports indicate that WBC interim-junior middleweight Sergio Martinez (44-1, 24KOs) has agreed to face WBA champion Daniel Santos (32-3, 23KOs) on February 14th on HBO's Boxing After Dark.
The other fights that will be taking place on the Valentine boxing card will be rising prospect Alfredo Angulo taking on the always crazy Ricardo Mayorga in what appears to be full out brawl.
Nate Campbell will also defend his lightweight titles against mandatory Ali Funeka who recently KO'ed Zahir Raheem.
