I happened to read a bowl preview at the Penn State blog. I came across this hilarious Cotton Bowl summary:

"Cotton, Oklahoma St. vs. Ole Miss-The Rebels' win in this game last year propelled them to one of the best off seasons in college football history. They were ranked No. 6, and their quarterback was picked by Steve Spurn-ier as the preseason SEC player of the year. With a win, who knows what the offseason holds for the Rebels this year? "

I won't deny that I had some personal satisfaction in seeing Tebow go down in flames Saturday. But that's not why I'm posting this. It's simply an excellent article, and it makes me so proud of our defense that they stood up to Tebow and prevented him from cementing his place in the halls of college football lore on their backs.

Am I the only one that was getting really pissed at Gary Danielson for repeatedly talking about how Alabama didn't want Greg McElroy? I understand where he's coming from in that if we had gotten Tebow then we wouldn't have had room for McElroy... supposedly. I don't know if that's really the case or if it was a mutual thing where he didn't want to be behind Tebow either. Regardless, I thought it was very disrespectful to keep characterizing the situation as Alabama "not wanting him". He may not have been a 5 star at the top of everyone's board, but he wasn't table scraps either.

Roy Upchurch is awesome. I was so happy to see him score the winning TD in the Iron Bowl. Some of you may remember when Upchurch wore "RIP Micah" on his wrist during the UT game last year. Micah Edwards was a big Alabama fan, and Upchurch was his favorite player. He even had a picture of Roy in his little desk at school. Micah died when he refused to leave his elderly grandmother in a fire. They found their bodies huddled together in her bedroom. Upchurch was particularly moved by this story because of his relationship with his own grandmother. "Upchurch, after all, spent 18 months in high school living with his grandmother, Gladys Garner. The 71-year-old was in failing health, and none of her adult children could care for her full time. Upchurch volunteered, then spent a long time convincing his mother to allow him to do so. He rose at 4 a.m., cooked her breakfast, gave her medication, went to school, went to football practice, became a Parade All-American, came home, and repeated it the next day." Upchurch sent the family a signed ball and dedicated that UT game in which he had a career day to Micah last year. The story in the Birmingham News last year ended by saying "Somewhere, Edwards is cheering". Tonight, he sure had cause to cheer again.

Here's the original story

Lawyer for AU student, Jenkins, that Eric Smith assaulted on Finebaum

This has been an interesting Finebaum show. This lawyer is on there talking about the Eric Smith assault. According to her several AU football players got confrontational with some other students at this party. They reportedly knocked drinks out of Jenkins's hands. Jenkins then went outside to make a phone call when Smith rushed him and knocked him out from behind. From her description, the kid was hurt pretty bad. His head required 17 stitches, and he suffered a severe concussion. This all happened right in front of 4 Auburn police officers. Anyway, according to the lawyer Eric Smith was granted youthful offender status and the case was sealed. But of course he is still at Auburn, playing football, and didn't miss a game.

Now here's where it gets interesting. According to the lawyer, this isn't the first time an Auburn football player has assaulted someone. Furthermore there is a group of players who call themselves the "Swag Crew" who exhibit gang like tendencies and have been intimidating students.

Of course the barners have been calling in and saying that the lawyer is on the take for Alabama, assassinating the character of Jenkins for being at a party and having a drink in his hands, and all kinds of other ridiculousness.
