Cason back in T-Town

There is a good article in todays paper about Cason and a neat video showing him training in Tuscon with the UofA track coaches. Cason will be the starting CB for the Chargers this year and will really be able to shine. On the other hand, if he doesnt perform, his career in the NFL will fade quickly. Hopefully, Cason is also going to lend a little support to the UofA during his visit and work with some of our CBs. He definately should....

I hear that Kadeem Jack will be visiting the campus on Wednesday. Sounds good ("One of the quickest emerging recruits in the country is 6-foot-9, 210-pound New York Rice power forward Kadeem Jack. Recruiting attention is picking up quickly for Jack, who was recently offered a scholarship to Arizona, where he'll visit soon.").

Also, Doron Lamb is down to three schools and Arizona is one of them along with Kansas and Kentucky.

I just read an article saying that GRONK was granted early entry into the draft. This is really too bad. I think he would have been better served by playing one more year in college and getting his degree. At this point, while it was fun watching him for one season, I hope he gets drafted LATE and doesnt make any money. This guy just took up a spot on the roster and a scholarship and nothing else!

TV SCHEDULE and THE CATS v. HAWKS

I'm following the site like a loyal Wildcat. I like the idea of a post regarding all the games on national TV each week. I like to place friendly wagers on some games and I usually choose games that are on TV. Keep up that good work and lets really analyze some of these games and look for some value out there....

Regarding the CATS, I can't wait to watch my first AZ game of the year this next weekend. Iowa definately found their new running back last week. The Cats better watch out for that guy. He is quick but more dangerously, the guy is out to prove that he deserves this opportunity. If the Cats D doesnt bring the "A" game it could be a blow-out. That stadium can get really loud really quickly...NOT an easy place to play. The Cats need to keep the ball as long as possible right off the bat and keep the crowd out of it. FINALLY, those Cats better get a goodnight sleep! Iowa City can be a crazy place, but the team needs to wait until they get back to T-Town before having beers.

ONCE AGAIN...NO LOVE FROM ESPN

I heard that ESPN moved some of their broadcasting to LA. This doesnt seem to have made a difference in their coverage (and respect) of the West Coast schools, particularly UofA. Dick Vitale (the little bitch) has made his preseason top-40 and yet again, it doesnt include Arizona. In fact, there is only 1 team from the Pac 10 on his list. ESPN should be done with college basketball on the West Coast.... They have absolutely no credibility. True, the Pac 10 didnt do so hot in the Tourney this past year, but look at Dicky's top-40....it is full of BS East Coast schools.

AZ Gets ANOTHER Great Recruit!!!

NEW YORK — Lamont "Momo" Jones on Wednesday became the second straight Oak Hill Academy starting point guard to commit to Arizona.
Only this time, ironically on the eve of Brandon Jennings' ascension into the NBA draft, Jones says he's coming for sure.
Whereas Jennings opted to go straight from Oak Hill to Italian pro ball last season, rather than enroll at UA, Jones said he decided to become a Wildcat guard after taking an impressive visit to Tucson last weekend and meeting with new coach Sean Miller. Jones originally planned a Monday news conference but said Wednesday he did not need to wait.
"Sean Miller is a great coach," Jones said. "I watched him at Xavier and, with what he did there, I have no doubt he will do the same at Arizona. Me and my mother sat down with him and listened to him talk, and we believe this is the best place for us."
Jones signed with USC in April but was released from his letter of intent after USC coach Tim Floyd resigned this month.
Jones is a good friend of incoming UA freshman Kevin Parrom and is the godson of UA assistant coach Book Richardson, who was a close boyhood friend of Jones' now-deceased father, but Jones said those factors did not affect his decision.
"It just comes down to where you're most comfortable at," Jones said. "It had nothing to do with Book. My relationship with Book is my relationship with Book, and that's that. At the end of the day, you have to do what's best for you."
What's best for Jones is also likely in the best interests of the Wildcats, who gain a tough-minded combination guard who can play off the bench or in conjunction with senior guard Nic Wise. Both are considered scoring point guards.
Jones is "a combo guard, but when you slice him open, he's got the DNA of a scorer," said Dave Telep, national analyst for Scout.com. "He has extreme confidence in his jump shot. He doesn't care who he's playing against; he just plays like he's got a chip on his shoulder."
Already, Jones is confident enough that he said concerns about playing time were not a consideration in his decision.
"You dream to play with good players, and he's a four-year player," Jones said of Wise. "If I had to play behind Nic Wise, I wouldn't mind, but I do think we'll play in the backcourt together. I can see that we're both interchangeable guys. Sometimes he'll be at the one (point guard), and sometimes I will. Sometimes he can be at the two, and sometimes I will. That's what makes us a team."
Jones also gives the UA a deep enough roster to be a competitive team, one that Jones said is the "team to beat" in the Pac-10.
Miller "getting (the UA) job proves how much of a great coach he is," Jones said. "You don't just give anybody the University of Arizona coaching job. You have to be some type of special coach."
Although Miller has not yet coached a game at Arizona, he is drawing praise for his recruiting. Since being hired in April, Miller has lined up four Top100 freshmen, including Parrom, Solomon Hill and big man Kyryl Natyazhko. Arizona could get a fifth after Southern California wing Derrick Williams visits the UA this weekend.
Williams said via text message Tuesday, during a visit to Memphis, that he will visit Tucson this weekend and probably make a decision early next month.
Clark Francis of HoopScoop recruiting service said Jones' addition already gives the UA a 2009 recruiting class tied for 24th.
"This shows Sean Miller can recruit good players, and (Jones) is as good as it's going to get right now," Francis said. "If I were an Arizona fan, I'd be very excited."

I think we have played less than inspired, but overall, pretty good B-Ball the last few weeks. One thing that has killed us is our inability to rotate and get a hand up on the 3-point shot. We have to make an effort to get out there. Hill can handle the inside. We dont need 3 guys inside trying for the rebound...especially when more than likely there wont be any rebound the way things have been going. I cant believe we cant figure it out. Come on!

I agree that our team may be getting a little tired, but come on, these guys are 21-22 years old. They have to be able to take this kind of schedule, or they shouldnt even think about playing in the NBA. Our "big 3" is as good as any in the country but they seem to forget to show up at many of our games. These guys need to think long and hard about what they want this year. I think their goal must be to make the tourney. To do that, they need to win AT LEAST 2 of their next three games, and that will not be easy. Come on CATS!

PS - They better show up against U-Dub. If they were tired against Wa. St. it will be a whole other story agaisnt a team like Wa. that can run, run, run. I hope they do show up ready to run so it will be a fun game....

Zane, I have never really trusted you, and now, I have more reason to be suspicious of your play. FIGURE IT OUT! You have done very little that I consider to be good this year. We need a player that can hack in on the inside. Right now, you are the worst inside player i have ever seen.

I just dont understand. Why WOULDNT a highschool kid want to play at AZ? It doesnt make any sense that we are having such trouble getting big name-top of the class type recruits. We have a good season going, and that should help, but what should help even more is for the recruits to know that if they chose AZ they will get to be a star right off the bat. There is no waiting around for other players to finish off their careers.... Come on recruits, its time to sign on the dotted line and make AZ your next home (for at least 1 year)!
