Windy City Gridiron SLEEPER ALERT: Jovan Leacock S Bowling Green

I know Bears do not need to add anymore safeties to their young co. but hell, if you can get a guy like Leacock then you better atleast do research on him! Jovan is an "unheard" of safety probably because he was not invited to the combine and he plays at a school like Bowling Green. At his pro day though, he BLEW IT UP! His forty time was an excellent 4.42 seconds, he has a vertical of 42 inches, and a broad jump of 10'9" while benching 18 reps at 5'10 199 lbs. After finding that out I observed a video of his highlights. He is fast, delivers brutal hits, and has great instincts. Bears could use him on special teams to start off and soon enough he could turn out to be a better safety than either Conte or Wright (or once Wright tears his hamstring walking down his stairs at home). I'll tell you guys right now, this guy is the real deal and PROBABLY will not be drafted until day 3. Check this kid out:

Windy City Gridiron Mike Brown is back... as Major Wright (or Chris Conte)?

Let me start off by saying, I am a huge fan of Mike Brown and he was my favorite defender in the NFL. He was always underrated even though he made big plays for Bears. He was one of the best hitters in the NFL, and was good in pass coverage as well ( he played FS and SS). His career was shortened by injuries and that's one reason he was underrated. Now that he has been gone for a few years, I was thinking if if Bears will have a safety like him again. I am a Gator fan, and am curious if Major Wright can take that role. He hits hard as hell and is average at coverage( he should develop). If not maybe Chris Conte, the free safety Bears took this year could be like Brown. I actually have high hopes for Conte in this league. Even though the problem Bears have now is line, Wr, and aging on D, our secondary isn't that great. With a year under his belt, hopefully Wright gets better and better so him and Conte COULD be partners back there and be good.

P.S.: if both Conte and Wright be like Mike Brown then that would be even better!

Windy City Gridiron Depth Chart

Im wondering what Bears depth chart will look like. At OLine there is competition, same with DLine, WR, OLB(im pretty sure Pisa will start here), CB(dime/nickel), TE(with olsen's role) and Safety. It's too difficult to figure out an early depth for WR. Bears will use 2 outside WRs and a slot from what it's said now, and there are tons of options. It could be the 2 Devins' with Iggy at slot; Devins' with Davis at slot(he was an adequate slot before); Devins' with Freddie Barnes(he was AMAZING in college, and bears are trying him at slot); or Devin with Bennett or Knox and there are too many options. Looking from right now's stand point, who do yall think will start at WR on opening day of the reg. season? BTW- I want Bears to sign John Henderson(DT, ex-jaguar); Peppers, Harris, Hendeerson would be scary and beast, which can make the other starting DE good.

Windy City Gridiron 2009=Anti-Chicago Sports Year

As we all know the Bears had a dissapointing 2009 season. Cutler is the face of our franchise, but he doesnt have a great campaign. Everything went wrong until the last two games. But we all knew we had to get ready for the offseason few weeks before the playoffs, and 1 way was to watch Chicago Bulls. They had a smooth season led by D-Rose and Joakim Noah, and near the end of the reg. season things got intense. They won 4 straight games to get in the playoffs, but today they got knocked out by Cleveland Cavaliers. Now offseason begins for them, and they are out to make a huge splash in the free agency(just like Bears). Hopefully 2010 goes Bears and Bulls way(as well as Cubs or White Sox way). Oh, and Derrick Rose will be the best player in the NBA in a few years!

Windy City Gridiron Lovie Smith to Vols'!!!

Sorry to break your excitement of Lovie leaving for Tenneessee, but he still might, maybe.

The following passage is from http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/would-tennessee-job-interest-lovie-smith.html

"In 2008, the Tribune reported that Tennessee reached out to Bears coach Lovie Smith to gauge his interest in becoming the coach at the school where he worked under Phillip Fulmer in 1993 and '94. Smith declined, but now the Volunteers' job is open again with the exit of Lane Kiffin to USC.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk opines today that both sides should revisit the option.

"Frankly, it might be in everyone's best interests for Smith to pursue the opportunity, unless he has no interest in leading a college program," Florio writes. "The Bears undoubtedly would have cleaned house at Halas Hall but for the buyout obligations to Smith and G.M. Jerry Angelo.  With Smith's ability to stick around for 2011 riding on the performance of quarterback Jay Cutler and mounting uncertainty regarding a work stoppage after next season, heading to Knoxville makes plenty of sense, especially if his compensation from the Volunteers would be enhanced by a partial buyout from the Bears."

Windy City Gridiron Speed or Power... Which #28 is more desirable?

4.21... That's all that describes this man. CJ 2K has delivered unbolting stats around the NFL; 10 straight games with over a 100 yards; 6th player in NFL history to rush for atleast 2,000 yards. He accomplished these missions in his 2nd season as a pro. From already reaching this destination in his young career, he probably makes you think he went very early in the 1st round. Instead, people were shocked when he went late in the 1st round, thinking he was a reach! But in 5 more years, rules might change on how players have to retire to be allowed in the Hall Of Fame. It's all the "supersonic" Chris Johnson.

Are you daunted to take a hit? Then do not face this man! He follows mommas rule and knocks you out. They call him "all day" because he makes the highlight film every game. He is a man possessed! Trust me Bears fans I know yall, even though you hate the purple and white you cant stop watching this man dominate. Just like CJ, he also has many great stats. 3 pro bowls in his 3 year career; 10+ TD's every season; topped more than 1,300 rushing yards every year as well! But again, stats dont show more than your game on the field does. This man started running to Canton since game 1 of his career. Adrian Peterson...never step in front of this "beast"!

Windy City Gridiron Final Roster Cuts Made

The Bears made their final cuts on Saturday. They included G Johan Asiata, T Cody Balogh, QB Brett Basanez, CB Rudy Burgess( YES! He sucks!), CB Marcus Hamilton, CB Woodny Turenne, FB Will Ta' ufo' ou. They put 3 players on IR including: Dahna Deleston (hamstring) and defensive end Henry Melton (ankle), and Kevin Jones(ankle).
I am surprised that Basanez was cut because he did good in last 3 games. But i am glad we cut Rudy Burgess because he sucks like crap!

Windy City Gridiron Who would you rather have on the Bears, Plax or Boldin?

We have been having the Davis and Peterman arguement for a while. Lets turn to the superstar players. Would you rather see Boldin lead the Bears to a championship or Plax? There is a costly price for both. If you want Boldin then you have to give up alot in a trade. If you want Plax then you bring in some risk. But both of them have talent and have plenty left in their tank. BUT, Boldin will be 30 this year and its not good to be 30 and have injury problems. Plax still has alot left in his tank but he will be 32 this year and he might take a step back before Boldin. So decide on the poll who you want and start the arguement. Just dont forget the price to pay for both of them.

Windy City Gridiron Bears sign 6 rookies

Six of Chicago’s nine picks agreed to four-year contracts Friday with fourth-round cornerback D.J. Moore, fifth-round receiver Johnny Knox, fifth-round linebacker Marcus Freeman, sixth-round safety Al Afalava, seventh-round offensive lineman Lance Louis and seventh-round receiver Derek Kinder all coming to terms.

A three-year starter who bypassed his senior season at Vanderbilt, Moore is an instinctive player with good ball skills. The 5-8, 192-pounder started all 13 games as a junior last year, compiling 58 tackles, seven pass breakups, six interceptions, 4½ tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.

The speedy Knox started all 12 games last season as a senior at Abilene Christian, registering 56 receptions for 1,069 yards and 13 touchdowns while also averaging 7.4 yards on punt returns and 25.0 yards on kickoff returns.

Freeman possesses speed and athletic ability. He started all 13 games last season at Ohio State, compiling 84 tackles, 9½ tackles for loss and 3½ sacks. He also started all 13 games as a junior in 2007, recording 109 tackles, 9½ tackles for loss and 1½ sacks.

A three-year starter at Oregon State, Afalava is a tough and aggressive tackler. The 5-10, 213-pounder started all 11 games in which he played last season as a senior, registering 36 tackles, eight pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Louis is a versatile athlete who played tight end, guard and tackle at San Diego State. He has been working as a tackle with the Bears but also could play guard.

Kinder was named first team All-Big East as a junior in 2006, leading Pittsburgh with 57 receptions for 847 yards. But he then suffered a torn ACL on the opening week of training camp the next summer and missed the entire 2007 season. The 6-1, 210-pounder rebounded in 2008, catching 36 passes for 422 yards and scoring on receptions of 80, 78 and 55 yards.

The Bears’ top three draft picks remain unsigned: third-round defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert, third-round receiver Juaquin Iglesias and fourth-round defensive end Henry Melton.

Windy City Gridiron BREAKING NEWS: Stafford to Detroit

Georgia QB Matthew Stafford will be the No. 1 draft pick after agreeing to a six-year deal with the Detroit Lions, NFL.com's Steve Wyche reports. The contract has $41.7 million guaranteed but can be worth up to $78 million. I SAY STAFFORD IS A BUST!!! Mark Sanchez will be better than him definetely. MATT IS THE NEXT DAVID CARR.
