Who is your favorite (active) former Shark?
With the well-liked Setoguchi heading to Minnesota, I thought this might be a good time to bring up the saddest side effect of the "business" of hockey - dearly departed Sharks.
There are plenty of former Sharks who are still playing professional hockey. We loved them while they were here, but they had to go for the better (we hope) of the team. So let's show some love for them!
Who is your favorite former Shark who is still playing professionally? I know Owen Nolan is going to win, but let's try to be interesting and have some cool fandom stories and maybe some interesting picks too ok guys!? Please?! Because I had to do the research to find out who was still playing and if only Cheech and Nolan get votes then what was the point righttttt? OK!????? I think I got all the words I needed to get for a fanpost, here's the poll now ( in a pretty random order):
Let me know if I forgot anyone.

Poll - Which Was The Worst Playoff Series Loss?
Much has been made of the SJ Sharks' playoff "failures" and their inability to get over that final hump in the postseason. It certainly can be very trying at times to be a sports fan, getting your hopes up every year and investing emotionally into your teams, only to see the season end early more often than not.
You only have to skim the comments on FTF during the playoffs to see the range of emotions that we fans feel during the playoffs. It's especially poignant after a series loss, which, of course, brings the entire season to an end. Emotions run high and many people take it pretty badly. In the last two seasons, the Sharks have come frustratingly close, only to dash our hopes once again.
So now that all the dust has settled on the loss to Vancouver, we can take a look back at the franchise's 14 playoff berths - which, to this point, have unfortunately ended in 14 playoff series losses.
San Jose has lost as the better team and as the worse team. They've gone to seven games and they've been swept. Each time, we fans put our souls into it and come out with our hearts broken. But which was the WORST playoff loss? Which was the one you thought you'd never get over (or maybe you still haven't!)? The one that changed the course of Sharks history, the one that got away, or the one you just can't understand how they managed to lose?
Is it the worst from an objective, historical perspective? Or are there subjective emotional reasons for your choice? DOESN'T MATTER! Just vote for the worst and please share your reasons in the comments below.
Sharks Skaters Vs. Canucks Skaters - Playoff Stats
There are countless factors that contribute to a team winning a series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Will, skill, and luck all come into play. Matchups, strategies, home fans, bad refs, upper body injuries...the list goes on and on. It's completely impossible to know exactly what is going to happen in a given series.
However, as the Canucks and Sharks line up for their Western Conference Finals matchup this year, I thought it might be interesting to look at the playoff statistics of the individual skaters on each roster and see what, if anything, we can garner from analyzing them. Below the jump are two tables I created highlighting all of the players' (no goalies) playoff numbers in all the big categories. Check it out!

WTC: Demers IN, Ferriero OUT, but maybe not REALLY out
huh? anyone notice how confusing and secretive the organization has become this summer?
Hinote cut and Stalock sent down
This brief blurb makes it sound a little like Demers is a lock to make the team?
Who is your Eastern Conference Team?
I don't think anyone has done this before so, here it goes.
Here's the situation: The ghost of Frederick Stanley has come to you in a dream. You talk about the Sharks for a while. He says he's a big Torrey Mitchell fan, and he'll do what he can about the injuries. Then he breaks the bad news.

Disappointing Leadership Last Night? McLellan Thinks So.
"they (the Sedins) set the standards for their team. They came and competed, skated hard. Our guys didn’t do that. and that’s exactly what we’re looking for — who’s going to step up?"
Nice to see he's serious about this "earning the captaincy" thing
Potential Shark Milestones for 2009-2010
I thought it might be interesting to take a look at what career and Sharks milestones we can look forward to our players *potentially* achieving this season! Personally, it always seems like I miss it when a big career number is hit, and I'd like to be more attentive of it so I can properly congratulate the players. I hope you all will join me!

Ron Wilson on the Sharks' Playoff Exit
"I can't say I was rooting against them, although there was a part of me that was," said Wilson, who watched each game of the series on TV. "To be perfectly honest with you, though, I did feel good when they failed miserably in the playoffs."
Interesting.
Shark KILLERS
Here it is, it's time: the players we love to hate.
Fan Favorite *Official Final Standings*
Here we see the final standings for the Sharks Fan Favorite voting, listed in alphabetical order.
YOUR FAVORITE, coming in with a team-leading 25 total votes combining for 120 pts is....
JOE PAVELSKI
Here's who rounds out the top 5:
- Joe Pavelski - 120 pts

| 1st Place | 2nd Place | 3rd Place | Honorable | Total Votes | Total Pts. | |
| Cheechoo | 1 | 1 | 4 | 1 | 7 | 25 |
| Clowe | 6 | 0 | 3 | 6 | 15 | 72 |
| Marleau | 7 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 19 | 104 |
| McGinn | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 |

| Boyle | 3 | 5 | 4 | 5 | 17 | 73 |
| Ehrhoff | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
| Joslin | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Lukowich | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Murray | 4 | 1 | 4 | 6 | 15 | 60 |
| Vlasic | 0 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Nabokov | 0 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
As a reminder, 1st place votes counted for 10 pts, 2nd place for 6 pts, 3rd place for 2 pts and all other votes counted for 1 pt.
Here's some more statystical analysis ramblings:
- Douglas Murray recieves the "sixth man" award, coming in at a surprising 60 points, with 3 more first place votes than Joe Thornton.
- Thornton himself received a whopping 9 second-place votes, the most votes any player received in any category.
- Milan Michalek receives my award for "least popular player," as the longest-termed and most often-played Shark with the fewest points (1). Vlasic, Ehrhoff, Nabokov recieve honorable mention.
- "Most popular up-and comer" goes to Brad Staubitz, presumably thanks to his Tootooing. Mitchell actually got a lot more votes so maybe he gets the award, I was just surprised by how many Staubitz got, considering how few games he played.
- Let it be noted that 1st and 2nd Place are very close, as are places 3-5. Make what you will of this, but these rankings are not set in stone.
- The votes for Jeremy Roenick would screw everything up, but for the record, he would have received 24 pts
- Marleau held the 1st position for a fair amount of time before a comeback by Joe Pavelski. I thought everyone wanted to trade this guy? Discuss.
Check out the rest of the stats as you please, and point out anything interesting that you see.
Thanks everyone for voting!!!!

Which Shark is THE Fan Favorite?
We all have our favorite Sharks. Throughout history, we have all grown to love some player, whether great or terrible, prolific, or AHL- level. But which current Sharks player is the most favorite? Which Shark deserves the title of consensus fan favorite!? Well, in order to find out we will use a system. All interested parties will rank their favorite Sharks in order, with 1 being the favorite. A 1st place vote will receive a whopping 10 points!!!! 2nd place votes count for 6 pts, 3rd place votes are 2 pts, and if for some reason you choose to go beyond 3 players, the remaining ranked players will receive a single point.
Here is the current Sharks roster of players that I count as eligible for this ranking:
Ryan Clowe
Remember you're NOT voting on the best player, just your favorite, even if you can't explain why. Let's see your rankings!

FTF Theme Song
Should we do this? The idea has been kicked around before...
If we got our hands on the rulebook...
Let's have a bit of fun.
I was thinking today, what would I do, as a Sharks fan, if I got my hands on the NHL rulebook? What kinds of crazy rules would I make to give the advantage to my team!?
Let's come up with some hypothetical rules that could be added that would help the Sharks win EVERY game next season on the way to the Cup.
Sharks say Marleau is Player of the Year
According to the official site, Marleau is named the official player of the year, Plihal is named rookie of the year. What do you guys think?
ESPN's mvp of each team
what do you think? I say ehhhh to Nabokov. He missed a lot of the season. I think he had a much better case last season
now and then
I was bored tonight and I decided to take a look at some comparisons to last season and see if they can tell us anything heading into the postseason. I took a look at the scoring balance, as well as the performances of the players that played a comparable number of games this season and last. Keep in mind that we are still 9 games from the end of the season. Please don't get upset for me doing this so early, I felt by this stage of the season the important statistical differences would be clear. Here's what I found!
Did anyone notice?
We're all really wrapped up in criticizing the sharks in this recent loss of form. Well I dunno about you, but I've been thinking...
