Uniforms
This fanpost is meant to be entirely lighthearted, and of no real importance or news, but since the season just ended, one thing that will be put to rest are the current MD bball uniforms. Mens bball uniforms are on 2-year cycles from Under Armour.
Personally, I really liked the uniforms of the Greivis era, although many felt they were too busy. On the otherhand, I found the current generation to be too plain.
With the rebranding of the athletic department, the font of the "Maryland" across the chest will likely be changed to be more in line with the football teams uniforms. If one looks at the polos worn by the coaches, they have the new branding on them.
So, take a break from the moping about how the season didnt go that great (even though they DID outperform expectations), and talk about what you would like to see in the new MD bball uniforms.
Personally, Id like to see an adoption of the Pride motifs into the bball unis-- how? The siding on one side should be black and yellow, and the other side red and white. The flag should be over the belt, instead of on the back. A full collar would be kind of cool, rather than just a half one. Ideally of course, a return to the Dixon-era unis would be best, but Nike wont allow that, so we'll have to make due. If anyone here is skilled with photoshop, or even if its just a MS paint mockup, try your hand at showing us what you'd like to see!
Alex Len--Lottery Pick!
Hey guys,
If you check out NBAdraft.net, the experts have already begun penning Alex in as a lottery pick in 2013. The website compares him to Kosta Koufos from Ohio State, although I think we all agree that should he stay in school another year or two, he will be much better than that, much improved, and ready to be a top-3 pick (let alone lottery).

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/alex-len
Again, I marvel in the fact that we discovered this kid so late in the process, and that none of the other big programs knew about him. Says alot about UMD's reputation overseas, as well as our scouts.
Cheers!
Another night of NBA playoff action
Friday nights NBA games have started and oh, Memphis and SA are playing.Memphis is a 8 seed and sanantonio a ONE and this one player Greivis vasquez has as many points as San antonio while memphis is winning 20-6. this is a player from Venezuela-- this is proof of Gary williams ineptitude as a D1 coach, every coach should have known to look for scrawny venezuelan kids... we need to fire gary williams, he doesnt put out nba players, and he cant find any good players
Oh wait-- Greivis went to Maryland. And Gary made him the player who he is.
firegary, kindly shut up now :)
Mt. Williams Interview
Jordan Williams interviews with NBADraft.net, where hes asked about his future plans/ACC Play etc. This article seems kind of old-- but I dont recall seeing it on here before. If Im wrong, my apologies, go ahead and delete it. If not, though, enjoy!

Tobias Harris
College Park isnt the most glitzy place to go for potential recruits, meaning that its even more important we get the local guys. Furthermore, however, at least with alot of these guys we were right there till the very end, which is more than in years past. Be happy about that, at least.
• "So it really came down to Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee."
• On Maryland: "Gary Williams would have let Tobias run the point forward in his system, the flex. And Tobias liked Gary and Maryland, and knew the school because my oldest son [Torrel Jr.] went there. But Tobias just didn't want to be next to a big city -- in the end he wanted to be in a college town."

Huge boon for Under Armour-- also, Steve Blake linkage

Tom Brady is joining Under Armour, and even though his reign of dominance is over, this is still huge for UA, probably their biggest athlete along with Phelps now.
Also, check out Steve Blakes sweet alley-oop pass to Pau Gasol (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/video/nba/2010/11/07/0021000094_por_lal_short_recap.SportsIllustrated/index.html)

Doesnt seem like we'll be getting new bball unis this year; Under Armour's jersey customization page http://underarmourteamuniforms.com/Configurator/ updated alot of their graphics, and the MD Unis stayed the same. Of course, theres still more time, but doesnt look like we'll see a change. Shame.....

"
Jordan Williams, F, Maryland- The departures of seniors Greivis Vasquez, Eric Hayes and Landon Milbourne means diaper dandy Jordan Williams is suddenly the focal point of a Terps offense that will look to relish an underdog role for 2010-11. Williams certainly showed signs he can become an impact big man in the ACC in just his second season at College Park. The headline player of last year’s recruiting class, Williams nearly averaged a double-double and shot over 50% as a freshman in one of the toughest conferences in the nation. Now it’ll be Adrian Bowie, Sean Mosley, Dino Gregory and the baby-faced Williams that will have to lead the push. Williams is the youngest and has the highest ceiling of the pack: a bulky 6’10, 260 pound frame, a high basketball IQ, tremendous rebounding instincts and advanced post moves for a player his age. If his 18/5 on 8-12 FG against Trevor Booker and Clemson, his 15/11 against Brian Zoubek and Duke or his 21/17 in the opening round against Houston are any indication, Williams is the next star for the Terps, and that star could shine as soon as this winter."

Big 12 is safe-- by extension, MD as well?
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/ncaa/06/14/texas.big.12/index.html?eref=sihp
The Big 12 will be staying as is. Texas, OU, Tex A&M are not leaving, meaning that there remains a 10-team Big 12. I think the Big Ten will probably try to get Notre Dame, or some other schools, maybe Maryland. But either way, this puts a big hitch in everyones projection for college expansion.

Feature on Gary
FoxSports did a piece on Gary's involvement with Operation Hardwood. Its a great read/watch: http://msn.foxsports.com/video?vid=50431c3a-be5a-471e-8069-b24a8e497b4f&from=foxsports_en-us_videocentral
Gary has been involved for sometime, now. Plus, perhaps one of the most badass images of Gary I've seen was featured (http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/gallery/Operation-Hardwood#sport=CBK&photo=11202105).
If someone could photoshop Greivis into this picture, shoulder to shoulder with Gary in war, well... Ben, you'd have the ultimate image. ;)

This guy is a JUCO big man with pretty formidable size: 6"10. According to Rivals, he is listed under people who have had Maryland on their list. Any body hear anything about this?

"Maryland had a terrific season, but no one is afraid of Greivis Vasquez and the Terps. Purdue would likely be a bubble NCAA tournament team if the Boilermakers had played the entire season without Robbie Hummel. Instead, Matt Painter’s club goes in as a No. 4 seed along with Maryland. "

Jason Rothstein (the guy in the middle), at different times throughout the video mostly in the halfway region, rails against MD, ang talks about us with a disgusting, mocking attitude.
He says, among other things:
-that this is a typical Gary Williams team, one good player and a bunch of spare parts, which will get one win, and thats it
-he scoffs at Gary Parrish for mentioning MD in the same sentence as "Final Four", even though Gary Parrish says its not likely
-he adds in a deriding "if" as to whether the Terps will beat Houston
-etc..
I really wish we could get this video out to Greivis and Gary, because you know that this will fire our Terps up
On a side note, does anyone know whether we'll be able to wear our gold unis? I know that several teams do wear colored jerseys, but Im pretty sure thats only the case if its their primary. (a la Iowa in 2006)
Really cool shot of the Greatest game in Comcast history.
M.V.Pe's Impressions
MV'Pe answers alot of questions here(www.formspring.me/p21howard), including a couple about the recruits visiting, and also Haukkur Palsson.
-He mentions that he got to meet Palsson, spent some time with him, likes his game.
-Pe'shon stormed the court(along with Q. Cook/ Hopkins), but got out before the riots started.
-He mentions explicitly that the game "helped marylands chances", while also mentioning that Quinn Cook and Mikael Hopkins liked the game alot. Aside from that, he called it the most impressive basketball atmosphere he visited.
-Someone asked him whether he would take things for granted, a la John Gilchrist, to which he strongly proclaimed that he would never.
-And also, in reference to Ben's post on the schollie situation, with Pe'Shon wearing No. 21, he actually confirmed that he would, citing a reason that MD allows players to wear any retired jersey number, with the exception of Len Bias.
-On a side note, one of the questioners proposed the nickname "The Goblin" for Terrel. That's epic in my mind.
If you have time every now and then, read up on this page, he answers alot of MD-related questions, and really proves how much he wants to be here.
Cheers!

New Image
I think the best thing for the wiz to do is start brand new fresh this summer.
New roster/ New ownership/ New draft pick = rebrand this organization.
market the team towards the political/patriotic themes associated with our nations capital. just as the caps and nats have done. (EDIT: also the dc freedom and dc united)
unlike the mascot "redskins" which is untouchable, we could afford to rebrand ourselves to a different mascot, not the wizards which is relatively new, and not untouchabel.
switch mascots (perhaps the colonists, or the revolutionaries), usher in a new color scheme (red white blue), and usher in a new era of Washington basketball
