Odom No / Boozer No So whos the Mystery Man ?

Marc Stein thinks that Samuel Dalambert is a more realistic option for the Mavs but the Mavs will probably stand pact.

"Philadelphia's ever-available Samuel Dalembert would appear to make more sense for the Mavs, given his shot-blocking ability and mobility, as they search for a center to fill the void created by Orlando's decision to match Dallas' five-year, $34 million offer sheet to Marcin Gortat. "

I dont really know what to think about Dalembert 6 points 8 boards 1 blocked shot. vs Dampiers 6 points 6 boards doesnt really seem much like an upgrade

Whats do you guys think?

" The Buck Shot " and Odom

Apparently we still have the " Stack Chip" its just called the " Buck Shot" and we could get Odom for Buckner and Barea.

And with either of those deals we would still have the MLE...Wilcox? Mason?

Mavs do they make the bold moves?

I have been an avid Mavs fan for years now and every off season I see a lot of the same stuff and its mostly a bunch of hype. Not saying I haven’t got excited about some of them but usually at the end of the year I ma saying why didn’t the Mavs make that move they could have… I have seen Raef, Tim Hardaway, Nick Van Exel, Antwone Walker and Antwone Jamison, Steve Nash leave Devin Harris in, Bradley gone Damp in , Devan gone, Kidd in and about 20 euros Wang, and Najera. But one thing is definitely evident Donnie Nelson and Cuban always seem to make a move when they should stand pact or they sit still when they should make a move. I don’t know what it is with those guys they have no gut instinct and try thinking outside of the box way too much its over rated.

So this is what I am seeing with most Mavs fans on Mavs Moneyball

-          Most everybody loves the Gortat deal

-          Most everybody loves the Marion deal

-          Most every body hates that Bass is gone

Are you really sure your going to like these moves a year from now?

“Don’t let the smooth taste fool ya.”

With those moves we are still behind SA, LA, and Denver in the West, still behind Detroit, Boston, and Cleveland in the East.

They seem great now even to me. Only because at least we are doing something even if its signing Marion who is the same player as Howard they can co-exist right? and maybe they will... it makes them versatile that’s for sure. It makes them huge from shooting guard through center also make them very athletic.

Lets look at 2010. Jake made some pretty good points in his post “The Damp Bombshell” definitely a lot too get excited about with that post believe me the idea of having a player like Dwayne Wade here excites the hell out of me but lets be realistic and I am definitely not trying to take away anything from Jakes post I thought it was great insight lets just say I am playing devils advocate. There are 4 coveted free agents James, Wade, Bosh and Joe Johnson. We know that Lebron is very unlikely, Bosh we don’t need if we are going to keep Dirk so he’s out so let’s just say for laughs there is a 50 percent chance that Wade and Joe Johnson could come to Dallas. Keep in mind Dallas isn’t really a Big Market NBA town…and we have really never ever been able to get a big time player through free agency…its always through trades or the drafts. So I am going to go out on a limb here and say we don’t get any of those players and lets say Donnie and Mark are realistic in thinking “ hey lets not jack around and hope we can land one of those players lets take advantage of our opportunity now”.

What could they do and probably wont. One of the readers brought up the idea for trading Damp for Rip Hamilton in the community fan post section. If you convince your self the coveted 2010 free agents won’t come to Dallas and history plus probability tells us that it won’t happen. I would say go for it.  Keep Marion and Howard give up Damp get Hamilton. That move alone would make Dallas one of the deepest teams in the league, one of the most experienced teams in the league, it would make them athletic and by far the most versatile team in the league Coaches and yes even the “Zen Master” Phil Jackson would loose sleep trying to figure out the match up problems Dallas would give. I already know a lot of you might think it’s not realistic or it’s not a good idea etc.

I don’t know I am just saying if there is away to be a real threat in this league for once and not just try to keep up with SA and LA and not sit on your hands hoping for the Messiah I would rather have something solid you know is tangible than the hope for Wade.

Potentially if Dallas were to make a move for Hamilton and maybe make a move for lets say Tyson Chandler or Kwame Brown on paper Dallas would be the team to beat at least on paper and a very well balanced team with a pretty good coach to lead the way.

Think about these line ups Kidd-PG – Hamilton SG – Howard SF – Dirk PF- Gortat C Bench Terry, Marion, Barea, Chandler/ Brown or you could do a line up like this Kidd PG , Hamilton SG, Howard SF , Marion PF, Dirk C.

Even if you weren’t able to do a deal involving Chandler or Brown…Dallas would still be hard to deal with.

Detroit definitely needs a center Dallas needs a PROVEN shooting guard. If the above line ups don’t sound like they could compete with SA and LA. I don’t know what does. And if your going to say Wade sounds great well that’s obvious but keep in mind he has to get his touches excessively to be affective. Hamilton is one of the best moving off the ball. And seems like a way better fit with Dirk and Kidd.

Mav’s 2009/2010 what’s really the plan?

With the anticipated signing of Marcin Gortat and Jason Kidd the Maverick have ran out of money to sign any body else out of free agency most of the valuable free agents have already signed with other teams any way. Artest with LA, Trevor A, with Houston, Shaq with the Cavs and then of course some of the trades that made teams in our conference better…and better than the Mavs.

I personally don’t really like the idea of spending the MLE on Gortat but its obvious that this was high on the priority list for the Mavs front office along with Kidd…Kidd I understand there was no other option.

So if you really think about it logically something else is bound to happen most likely something unexpected. If I am Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and Rick Carlisle they cant with a straight face say they are going into this season with this roster. It seems like the media and fans are up in arms about the moves thus far. Really Kidd at the PG a huge ???? at the shooting guard, Howard at the SF , Dirk at the PF and Gortat at the center. Bass is probably on the move ironically Orlando seems to be the most likely scenario. If Orlando and Dallas were smart they would do a sign and trade both teams would get what they want and keep the MLE.

With bringing in Gortat there is really no need for Damp so they are going to move him and they have the coveted Jerry Stack house contract too. Cuban, Carlisle and Nelson aren’t dumb surely the plan is to move Damp and Stack.  Logic and Cubans competitiveness and knowing that LA and SA got way better the plan is TRADE I would be completely shocked being a fan of the Mavs  since the early 90s and an NBA  fan my whole life it is inevitable that they will be bringing in some new faces, some proven NBA talent. So we know Stack and Damp are gone. I would also be as bold as to say Terry, Wright and Howard are tradable. Bass is most likely going to sign somewhere else. The Mavs are essentially going to be building around 3 players maybe 4 Dirk, Kidd, Gortat, and Howard if they cant get anything of equal value in a trade.

So if you get the Free agent signings out of your head and look at teams that might have financial troubles or are rebuilding that’s most likely where your going to find the new Mavericks. Now you have to think like Carlisle and Nelson and put aside your personal opinion and the “Trade machine” trades about who you think they should trade for. So who are the new Mavs going to be? Just an FYI I wouldn’t think center we have that in Gortat and Hollins…I wouldn’t think PG either. I would be looking at PF back up to Dirk and legit SG a decent Small forward.  I would look at teams the Mavs have done business with in the past and hope there are teams that are rebuilding or hurting financially. Phoenix, Charlotte, Golden State, LA Clippers, Memphis and maybe New Orleans or even teams that just signed new players and now are back logged at positions. Marion? Gerald Wallace? Raja Bell? Jason Richardson? Corey Maggette ? Just a few ideas I have that I bet the Mavs would look at. Who do you really think the Mavs are looking to trade for? And be realistic. Wade, Kobe, Carmelo, Lebron, Bosch, Durant players like that aren’t going any where this year. Keep it real.
