OT: Ignore Script

I fixed the ignore script that I had working (briefly) on the last board. For those that don't know, you can enter in the users that you want to ignore and then all of their posts automatically get replaced with a simple "Ignore" text.

Unfortunately, it's not the easiest implementation but it's something that some people liked before so I figure I'd go ahead and post it. It's obvious but it might need saying, you don't have to install if you don't want.

Requirements:

- Firefox (unless there are ways of employing javascripts in other browsers)

- Greasemonkey Add-on

Installation:

1) Install Greasemonkey here.

2) Go here to grab the script. Should just be able to click the Install button and it should automatically do it for you. Restart the browser just to be safe.

Here comes the tricky part - Setting the users you want to ignore

3) Right Click the monkey icon and go to "Manage User Scripts"

4) Click on Manage User Scripts in the bottom right hand corner. Now, at this point, a dialog box is going to open asking you to pick an editor. You're going to have to navigate to a word processor (Word, Notepad, Wordpad). Hopefully everybody can figure out where those programs are located on their computers. Let me know if you are having trouble finding one.

5) Now go to the area identified in the picture below and add in the users you don't want (those users I have identified are in now way a reflection of how I feel about those people; just two people at random).

I did pick Josey to point out that for users with a space in the name, you have to substitute the space for %20. So, just add or subtract as many users as you want. Just remember that you have to put quotes around the names and separate the names by commas (with the commas going outside of the quotes).

When you're done, save the script, close out of everything, and then refresh the page. That's it. Everything should work.

Again, let me know if it's not working for you.

(And even though I don't care, I'm sure people will remind me how much things like this sucks. I can't wait).

Pretty good article about what the Diamondbacks are trying to do to cope with the recession. Some Moneyball stuff but more interesting is the focus on what the business side is doing

Nothing really ground breaking but the one that caught my eye: discount tickets.

Who's in charge of these things for the Rangers? Ryan? If we really are going to act like a small market team, we need to be doing some of these things. Otherwise, the team is going to see a steep drop in sales. DFWis doing a lot better than Arizona in terms of economy but the panic and fear will be there soon enough.

Also thought it was funny that the hot shot CEO of the Diamondbacks got his start at the Ohio University Program that young Miles attends.

The Mark Connor Myth

It seems to me that on this blog, there is this pervasive idea that once Mark Connor comes for a mound visit, only bad things happen. I have never thought of Mark Connor as good for anything and I remember participating in the boos last year when he would come out.

But, at least to me, it seemed like he wasn't so ineffective this year and people seemed to completely ignore the good outcomes and highlight the bad. Sometimes it seems people will boo his mound visit when the mound visit the LAST INNING proved to work out.

So I did some dirty work:

Date

Inning

Pitcher

Situation

Outcome

Success?

In 29 mound visits (up to and including the game on July 22nd):
- 17 of them ended in 0 runs (success),
- 11 of them the opposing team scored runs (failure),
- 1 of them, the opposing team scored a run but the pitcher just yielded outs (undecided).

I'm not sure what expectations people have after a mound visit but a 59% success rate seems pretty good. Consider that if a pitcher requires a mound visit, he's already pitching badly and the expectation is probably that he's going to fail anyway. In some situations, you expect that nothing in the world is going to get the pitcher out of the inning short of the hook.

really, Longhorn - think he'll be injured for the entire season?

BTW - in case you forgot, there's not supposed to be discussion in those projection threads. thats why we have these.

as for Clueless's comment - dumb.
