Losing Ricardo Gathers

Only a few days after committing to the Baylor Bears basketball team, it seems like LSU's future is as bleak as ever. The reports seem to indicate that he had interest in LSU, but that interest...

Nerds from Nashville Win 76-61

For the fifth time this season, the LSU Tigers fall on the road, this time to the Vanderbilt Commodores. For the second straight road game, however, in a loss I was pleased with the Tigers...

LSU Tigers vs. Vanderbilt Commodores Gamethread

Now halfway through the SEC regular season, the LSU Tigers sit in a tie for 8th place with the Tennessee Volunteers at 3-5. So far, the road has been very unkind to the Tigers in SEC play, as they...

Ricardo Gathers to Baylor

Louisiana's top recruit chooses Baylor. It's not surprising that he didn't choose LSU, but it's unfortunate that Trent couldn't keep him here. Malik Morgan is the lone 2012 recruit right now. With only 9 scholarship players for next year LSU will need to find someone to play forward off the bench.

And The Valley Shook SEC Powerpoll Week 6

The final week before the Superbowl is done. Things will get real interesting from Monday onward. As always check out Garnet and Black Attack for the results later in the week. For now here's...

LSU Tigers Defeat Arkansas Razorbacks 71-65

The LSU Tigers picked up their first win in more than 2 weeks, and even the series with the Arkansas Razorbacks, by putting up a 71-65 win. It was as much of a team effort as the Tigers have had...

16-6 (4-3) Arkansas Razorbacks vs. 12-9 (2-5) LSU Tigers

Game 2 of 2 in the regular season between the Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers tips off this afternoon at around 12:45 CT. As previously mentioned yesterday, this is the first of the "next four"...

LSU Tigers fall to 12-9 (2-5); Now What?

The LSU Tigers will conclude a week-long break Saturday afternoon, as the Arkansas Razorback come to town for a crucial game in the SEC season. The Razorbacks 16-6 (4-3) have rallied since the...

And The Valley Shook SEC Powerpoll Week 5

'Nother week, 'nother powerpoll. As always check Garnet and Black Attack for the results. Feel free to tell me where I got it wrong too. 1. Kentucky- There's not too much to add about the...

Welcoming #1; Kentucky Wildcats vs. LSU Tigers

Kentucky being #1, that happens quite often. Beating Kentucky when they are #1. That doesn't happen quite so much. At least not when they play against the LSU Tigers. Despite meeting the 'Cats...

Cross Examination; LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Tonight at 7:00 CT the LSU Tigers 12-7 (2-3) travel to Starkville, MS to take on the 16th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs 16-4 (3-2). It is the first of two meetings this season between the...

Post-UF Status Report and Miss. State Look Ahead

It was the first of the three games that I dubbed "Judgement Week" for LSU, and it was a loss. That is, of course, referring to the previous game against the Florida Gators last Saturday. Before...

And The Valley Shook SEC Powerpoll Week 4

Another week, another shake up of the Powerpoll. As always, keep an eye out on Garnett and Black Attack for the results from the SEC blogs. 1. Kentucky- No surprise here. The Wildcats pulled out...

Opening Statements; LSU Tigers vs. #14 Florida Gators

If this is indeed judgement week for LSU, then it makes sense to think of this game as a chance for the team to make their opening statements. The 14-4 (2-1) Gators have been a very shaky road...

Judgement Week

Over the next 8 days, the LSU Tigers will play, arguably, the toughest stretch of games for any team in the nation. All three teams they will play are ranked in the top 15 right now. Two of the...

And The Valley Shook Bayou Bracket-alysis

In my mind, the NCAA men's basketball tournament is king. I don't hide the fact that I think it's the most exciting time in sports. Between the near 12 hours of live hoops, bracket contests,...

In Honor of Hayden; LSU Tigers Defeat Auburn Tigers 65-58 OT

Before I get started into the game recap, I thought it would be best to kind of get some things out of the way. First things first, who is Hayden? During the game, PodKatt texted me about Dari...

A Short Rest or A Restless Night?; Auburn Tigers vs. LSU Tigers

Tonight at 6:00 CT, the hoops version of the Tiger Bowl takes place in Baton Rouge as the Auburn Tigers battle the LSU Tigers. It is the first meeting of two or more this year for the 11-6 (1-2)...

And The Valley Shook SEC PowerPoll Week 3

Another week has come and gone. Here's what I think the rankings for the SEC would look like. 1. Kentucky- No change here. They are the best team, though they did look vulnerable on the road. ...

Gameday; LSU Tigers vs Arkansas Razorbacks

Even though UNC takes on FSU at only 1:00 in the afternoon, ESPN has officially had their first college Gameday show of the season. While the opening match ups of the season aren't nearly as...

While doing research for SI.com's Midseason Coaches of the Year file, I ran a comparison of...

While doing research for SI.com's Midseason Coaches of the Year file, I ran a comparison of kenpom's preseason projections versus his current Pythagorean ratings, to see which teams had made the most significant gains. The coaches responsible for the top six BCS-conference leaps* are: 1. Trent Johnson, LSU (153rd to 72nd) 2. Fred Hoiberg, Iowa State (123rd to 51st) 3. Tony Bennett, Virginia (88th to 28th) 4. Craig Robinson, Oregon State (124th to 62nd) 5. Tom Crean, Indiana (50th to 9th) 6. Kevin Willard, Seton Hall (75th to 30th) The notion that Johnson has lifted up LSU more than Crean has lifted up Indiana seems crazy, but the Tigers were projected to be awful this season, whereas Indiana wasn't supposed to be all that bad, according to kenpom. Obviously, though, what Crean, Bennett and Willard have done means a lot more. It's easier to go from bad to mediocre than it is from mediocre to good.

Make it Stop! Alabama defeats LSU 69-53

2012 continues to be a hex for LSU sports, as Alabama once again defeated LSU 69-53 in a game that really wasn't all that close. The Tigers struggled all night, and if you saw the game you would...

A Game of Utmost Importance; LSU Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

For the second time this week, the LSU Tigers will go up against the Alabama Crimson Tide. While Alabama is in a good position for future postseason play in NCAA basketball, LSU still has a little...

Any Win is a Good Win

After Monday night's heartbreaking debacle that is still festering in the minds of LSU fans, we need something, someone, anyone to pick us up. Maybe it will be the Saints later on in the week, or...

SEC Powerpoll Results

LSU comes in at 7th in this weeks Powerpoll. Tonight's opponent comes in at 2nd.

And The Valley Shook SEC Powerpoll Week 2

I openly admit that I struggled to write this, simply because it means we are truly moving on. Basketball season is here, and most other years I'm happy on this day because the stakes seem to get...

SEC Opener; Ole Miss Rebels vs. LSU Tigers

Two more days. That's all. Maybe this game can help speed up time while we wait for Monday night. The Ole Miss Rebels come into Baton Rouge for the SEC opening game for both teams. The LSU...

And The Valley Shook SEC Powerpoll Week 1

With the close of the non-conference season for most of the SEC teams, it's time to move forward into the SEC portion of the schedule. With that I have the first SEC Powerpoll for the ATVS blog...

Virginia Cavaliers defeat LSU Tigers 57-52

In a game that featured quite a few lead changes and ties all the way up until the final minute, the #23 Virginia Cavaliers were finally able to put away the LSU Tigers 57-52. Both teams are known...
