Wayne Blackshear Interview after Louisviile visit.

I Came across this while watching the other interview videos. Pay particular attention when he mentions talking with Marquis Teague (a lot) about playing together in college. I think we may have one or two more commitments for this class within the next month.

A nice preview of the 2009-10 basketball season

First Practice

We practiced hard for nearly three hours.

Our early emphasis is on verbal communication and rebounding at both ends.

We must get the bigs to sprint the floor better, not only to make us tough to defend, but to fulfill their personal goals of playing beyond college.

Early on the biggest assets that stick out:

1. Attitude- tremendous desire to excel.

2. Toughness- the BIG EAST has hardened their minds and bodies.

Here is a break down of what stuck out with our guys with the first practice:

*Samardo, Edgar, and Jerry withstood the pain of a hard practice and competed at the highest level.

*Reggie was praying he could go back to Mississippi State (only kidding). He got through it and did some positive things.

*Jared Swopshire looked good and finished strong.

*Preston’s motor did not stop running for two hours and forty five minutes.

*T.J. has the potential. It will take time to develop his footwork and low post game.

*Kyle Kuric was steady and did some great rebounding work.

*George Goode struggled because he comes out of his athletic stance too much. He can be much better by staying in the position as a shortstop in baseball. Knees bent focused on the next quick reaction.

*Chris Smith and Chris Brickley are just a little rusty. It will take time for them to learn when to shoot and when to pass and the facets of the system.

*The freshman gave it everything they had. They were solid but the intensity wears the weak down. It will take time for them to develop. They have a great desire and willingness to learn.

If the loss of Jarmon and a younger defense is vulnerable for Kentucky, Louisville might expose it with Derrick Anderson-as physical a running back as any the Wildcats will face in Southeastern Conference play. Anderson ran for two TDs and 93 yards in the opener.

Card Chronicle Mike Leach

Apparently, Mike Leach, the current Texas Tech head coach is talking with the University of Washington about the coaching vacancy there. Washington is terrible, has been for the past few years. If Washington can at least persuade Leach to talk to them, why not Louisville? He would certainly be a step up for us. We would keep whatever recruiting pipeline Krag has to Texas, and from what I've seen of the recruiting, it's not great. Leach would probably improve in that area as well.

"The first I'd like to say is that, for you people that are from here, you may be looking at the national champions. Coach Pitino has assembled a group of guys that can go at least 10 or 11 deep and not miss a beat. I was reading his book last week and he said you've got to be positive, and with a team like that, it's easy to be positive." Jaguars Coach Ronnie Arrow had to say after facing the Cards.

Card Chronicle Outlook of next year's team

If T-Will decides to go pro also, then our situation probably won't be so hot next season. Samardo is coming in, so is Terrence Jennings. I expect them to start now. Is George Goode going to convert to PF? If Clarence Holloway can play, then we'll have some depth there. If not then we'll only have two true post players and they'll both be freshman (albeit very good freshman). Andre will be the only remaining player from that recruiting class, Sosa will be there as well. Jerry and Preston at SG (Will Scott too if you count him). Swopshire and Goode at SF, maybe Melquan Bolding if he signs. Then Samardo and Terrance down low....I dont know, it doesnt look good to me right now. Makes me wish Rick had kept going after Tyreke. What do you guys think?

Card Chronicle 2nd 2009 commit

Rakeem Buckles, a 6'8 PF from Miami has commited to the Cards. He is a 4 star on scout and a 3 star on rivals, and apparently has a ton of upside, but how many times have we heard that before? Haven't found any videos on him so I can't tell you much else. Pitino offered him a scholarship though so he must see something in him. Go Cards!

Card Chronicle Scotty Hopson

It's looking more and more like Tyreke Evans is headed to Memphis, as I've heard he will announce his decision after the Memphis/Tennessee game this weekend. So Scotty Hopson is a 6'5 Guard for Hopkinsville, KY, and he has UofL, Cincy, and Miss St. at the top of his list. Assuming Tyreke goes to Memphis, what are the chances of us landing Scotty? I believe we have a good shot, and I think he fits our system much better than 'Reke.

Card Chronicle Pitino Reacts to Knight Resignation

Okay, so there is a video on ESPN, on the cardinal fan page, of Pitino talking about Bobby Knight retiring. In the video, Pitino states that there is no way he could coach for as long as Knight, and that was into his late 60's. Pitino is 55 now...so assuming he stays at UofL for the remainder, how many years do you think we'll have left with him?

Card Chronicle Peanut Whitehead out for career

Peanut Whitehead injury puts him out for career. I have inside sources on the team that say Peanut Whitehead was told he cannot play football ever again. Peanut went out of the WVU game this Thursday and did not return. He has an injury that would put him at a severe health risk if he played again. I am 90% sure this information is true, however I may be getting my leg pulled. Information should be released by the team on his injury shortly and we'll all find out.
