Roy Hibbert reads you a poem
Not sure where he found it, but I can attest that this is true.
If you call 317-275-4444, Roy Hibbert will read you the children's poem, "Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly."
Very strange...

Jeff Green to Celtics
Looks like Jeff Green is heading back to the team that drafted him.
I am sad to see the Thunder trio broken up, but I think he'll have a good home with the Celtics. Doc will teach him a lot, and it lets him play for a serious title contender.
Very exciting.
Georgetown files 2010 Campus Plan that includes new athletic facility
Georgetown has officially filed the 2010 campus plan with the DC Zoning Commission.
Per the Georgetown website, the plan "...carries over some projects not completed from the 2000 plan, including an addition to Lauinger Library, the renovation of the New South building for student space, and construction of a new athletic training facility on campus."
Junior F Angel Garcia leaving Memphis mid-season
Interesting subplot for Memphis in the next week...
"According to a source, University of Memphis junior Angel Garcia is leaving the team at the end of the 2010 fall semester, which finishes next week. The 6-foot-11 forward – who is originally from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico – has played in only 20 games since arriving at the University of Memphis in the fall of 2008."
According to ESPN, he averaged 6 ppg and 3 rebounds
Moses Ayegba Ruled Ineligible
Per Tarik El-Bashir, Ayegba will sit out the first nine games of the season for a pre-enrollment infraction. Apparently Ayegba received a ticket to the U.S. that was paid for by a non-family member. Georgetown appealed the ruling but lost.
Gostkowski placed on injured reserve
Out for the season. Hope the new guy can kick.
Ewing Jr. cut by the Knicks again
Sad news for our alum....keep your head up, buddy.
Good to see he's staying positive, but still disappointing.
Article - not yet updated - about him being "on the cusp" here.
ESPN's Summer Shootaround - Big East
Gottlieb:
Felt like Scottie Reynolds had been there for a solid decade - a good ten years.
Katz says Pitt is preseason favorite, but not the most talented team in the league.
And hey guess what!? Gottlieb and Katz's video mentions Georgetown ONCE. When discussing a list of other teams in the league. Awesome.
At least Bilas provides a ranking:
4. Georgetown: After a difficult 2008-09, the Hoyas bounced back last season and were better in almost every area. Georgetown was better on the glass and with the ball, but when the lights came on in the NCAA tournament, the Hoyas laid one of the biggest eggs of all the big shots by getting blown out by Ohio. Greg Monroe is gone, but John Thompson III has Austin Freeman and Chris Wright, and they will take over. Georgetown will not have great depth and will have to emphasize its guards, but the Hoyas will still be tough to beat. The question is who will defend, rebound and score inside? Julian Vaughn will have to improve his game to be more productive without Monroe in the fold
Chris Wright interview from LeBron James Skills Academy
In an interview with NBE Basketball Report, Chris Wright addresses the loss to Ohio U in the tournament last year, and talks about expectations for next season.
"Our goal is to get to the Final Four," he said. "We wanna win the Big East title. That’s what me and Austin [Freeman] wanna do. We’ve been to the finals two of three years and lost to Pitt and West Virginia. [We want to] regain the Big East regular season title, make some noise in the dance."
Another good section:
While Wright does have some personal goals, he said he feels as though winning is the main thing and that is what will lead to his personal achievements. "You always have personal aspirations, but if you don't win, they won't come," Wright said. "I wanna be Big East Player of the Year. We got a lot of work if we wanna win [and winning] will take care of the rest."

Jeff Green Debate
Over at Welcome to Loud City, the OKC fans are debating our man Jeff's value.
User jksnake99 writes:
That brings me to Jeff Green. I honestly don't understand why he is viewed as a good NBA player. He's shooting 44% from the field and 30% from 3 pt range. For the advanced stat geeks out there, he's got a .517 True Shooting% which is pretty terrible for a PF. Furthermore, he's a very below average rebounder for a 4 man. Putting it all together, he's got a below average PER of 13.4, which is actually down from his 13.9 PER from last year. There aren't many signs he's getting better. On defense, I think he's fine but nothing special. Looking at the adjusted plus minus data on basketballvalue paints an even worse picture. The Thunder have been better with him off the floor the past two years-- quite a bit better in fact. Now, as you folks know, that stat has plenty of noise in it, but while Durant's made a huge turnaround in this category helped by vast improvements in his D (and he was probably never as bad as it suggested), Green has made no such strides.
So, I ask you guys: How good is Jeff Green in your opinion and how big a part of OKC's "Big 3" is he?
Anyway, you guys have a great young team that plays great, inspired D and has a staggeringly talented scorer in Durant. I'm just curious about Green.
Now, I haven't watched a lot of OKC games, although I may have to start. I didn't weigh in on their debate, but I particularly enjoyed this comment:
Several Thunder fans are not happy with Green. My thought is that he is not mean enough. Once he learns to be aggressive he’d be a more solid part of this game.
Green is also playing out of position. He is a natural 3, but is big enough to compete with other 4s.

Can't help but chuckle.

Nemesis v. Archenemy
I've been thinking about writing this for a while, but given our last two games it seemed appropriate.
I read a column a while back called "The Importance of Being Hated." Most of the column was forgettable, and re-reading it today it is a bit dated (discussing what will happen when George W. Bush runs for re-election, for example) but there was a passage that stuck with me. The author, Chuck Klosterman, explains the distinction between a nemesis and an archenemy:
Now, I know that you're probably asking yourself, How do I know the difference between my nemesis and my archenemy? Here is the short answer: You kind of like your nemesis, despite the fact that you despise him. If your nemesis invited you out for cocktails, you would accept the offer. If he died, you would attend his funeral and—privately—you might shed a tear over his passing. But you would never have drinks with your archenemy, unless you were attempting to spike his gin with hemlock. If you were to perish, your archenemy would dance on your grave, and then he'd burn down your house and molest your children. You hate your archenemy so much that you try to keep your hatred secret, because you don't want your archenemy to have the satisfaction of being hated.
Another distinction I've heard is that you root for your nemesis against other teams, because then it makes it that much more of an honor to defeat them, while you root for your archenemy to lose every game they play.
Who are ours?

Chris Wright in Weekly Watch
Chris Wright, Jr., G, Georgetown: Where did this come from? Wright scored 34 points in a win over Harvard after scoring just four in a loss to Old Dominion. The most Wright had scored earlier in the season was 18. If Wright can regularly score in double figures, the Hoyas can be a true contender in the Big East.
