- We cannot gain entry to the opponents zone
- We give up entry to our zone way too easily
- We dont drive to the net, we get pushed to the outside
- Ennis is going to be a really good hockey player, I hope he can find a scoring touch
- Patrick Lalime....uh yea
- I see an improved effort...unfortunately same results
- Our D-men are really slow and take horrible angles
Ok I am done ranting...thank you for your time. Hopefully some of you have been seeing the same thing as me...glad I bought NHL Center Ice to watch the Sabres...GO SABRES let's turn this around.
Playoff Hockey
I know some of you might not agree with what I have to say but hear me out please. If I were in the locker room following game 2's debacle here's what I would say as a quick summary. I realize that it was only one game but all it takes to turn the tide of a series is one game so EVERY game is vitally important to this teams playoff success or failures.
Dear Buffalo Sabres,
In case you havent figured it out you have to play 60 MINUTES, aka a WHOLE hockey game if you want to win in the postseason. The Bruins clearly outplayed you in game 2, which you should have thought they would try to do. There is absolutely no reason to lose a home playoff game against an inferior opponent (at least statistically). You were outworked, outhussled, outmuscled, and just straight out outplayed. If you dont find a way to lessen the amount of ridiculous turnovers in your own zone, make idiotic passes on a 3-2 that result in a 4-2 and a goal in your net, and finally SHOOT THE PUCK AT THE NET then all of our dreams of moving forward in the postseason are shot. You played an absolutely horrendous game after you went up 2-0 and Boston took advantage of it. PLEASE COME READY TO PLAY A FULL 60 MINUTES FOR THE REST OF THE POSTSEASON. HERES TO HOPING THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED YOUR LESSON AND WE WONT SEE A REPEAT FOR THE REST OF THE POSTSEASON....LETS GO SARES!!
Oh and bet better quick Vanek because this team needs you.
Ovechkin Suspension....
Hey guys in light of today's developments on the Ovechkin suspension and lack thereof on Matt Cooke I was wondering what your opinions were on the status how suspensions are dealt out in the NHL and what you would do if you were Colin Campbell. This has been a hot topic between me and my coworkers for about the last week. My thoughts are pretty straightforward. Both Cooke and Ovechkin deserved to be suspended. In Cooke's case I think it is pretty obvious he was intentionally going after Savard up high in open ice with his elbow. Ovechkin depending on whether or not you are a fan of his or not you will most likely have varying opinions but to me it was a bone head play that was completely unnecessary and he at least in my opinion blatantly pushed Campbell. Attached is a poll or just add your comments. Thanks and GO SABRES!!!!
So much for the 2 week break to get things right....
I apologize in advance for those of you who still hold out hope that this team is going to do anything in the playoffs. After watching tonight's abomination of a hockey game and seeing last nights effort in Pittsburgh A few things came abundantly clear to me.
1) This team is so devoid of offensive talent that I think there are many teams in the AHL that could beat us on any given night. Watching Washington's third line skate circles around us tonight was absolutely appalling. Not to mention how even when we pull our goalie we cant get the puck out of our OWN zone. The passing tonight was as bad as I have seen from any NHL team in a long time.
2) We no longer have any kind of team speed. We are slow out of the zone, into the zone, and I think we had a grand total of 30 seconds of possession time in the Washington zone. We might as well had just not even bothered to attempt to score (which is what it looked like for most of the game) and just lined all five guys up on the defensive blue line and pray that we don't give up a goal.
3) We are wasting the talents of Ryan Miller and by the time that we...cough cough...get enough talent around him to do some serious damage in the playoffs he might have gray hair or we will have traded him so we can get more third and fourth round draft picks that we can bring up through the minor league system and then let run off to greener pastures when they are finally decent players in the NHL (insert the most likely course of action with Tyler Myers).
4) I have no idea how any of you in Buffalo can stand to watch this team night after night. Don't get me wrong I love this team with all my heart and sincerely want to see them succeed but they never put forth the effort to do so. While the elite teams in the league like Washington and Pittsburgh and to a smaller extent Ottawa made significant changes that will actually help their team in the playoffs we add surprise surprise another GRINDER with limited offensive capabilities.
I am going to continue to hold out hope that they will improve drastically over the next few games. Remember we are only 10 points up on the 8th seed in the conference and the way we have been and are currently playing I am getting worried. I would say that I hope that they don't make the playoffs so that we can get rid of half this team and maybe get some real talent but I know that would never ever happen so here's to hoping for the best but I am not getting my hopes up. GO SABRES!!!
