Red Cup Rebellion Mike Bianco Quotables from Baseball Media Days

[ED: A tip of the hat goes to akmiller for this. He has promised more of the same for the duration of baseball season. If he doesn't come through, we'll beat him publicly. Frontpag'd and Rec'd.]

On the mix of veterans and new players…

“We get started here in about four days. It goes by quickly. We were here in this exact meeting room about six months ago as we welcomed in 20 new faces to the program. For the first time, I believe, in my 11 years here we have more new guys than returners, but it’s a great recruiting class. A lot of those new faces certainly will be on the field.”

On offensive depth and the opening lineup…

“It was a great fall with a lot of completion. But, amazingly, there weren’t a lot of answers, trying to figure out the starting lineup. As a coach, you’re always looking to February 18 and what the starting lineup (is going to be). By the end of the fall and into the practice and inter-squad games in the spring, we’re ready to go on February 18.”

“The first lineup is usually not the last lineup. The first rotation usually isn’t the last rotation. I think in the first four weeks, as always, one of the goals is to play different people—play different lineups and look at different combinations—to find out who that best group is. So that when we start conference play against the University of Alabama here in about four and a half weeks, we put the best nine on the field. We will certainly put the best nine as of February 18 out there, but we will also try some different things.”

On Matt Snyder’s health and availability…

via @MattJonesCBS: Miss State's Renardo Sidney I known for two things: a fight in the stands and being fat. Seems like an Animal House quote is appropriate

Started when the Ole Miss basketball team flight out of Memphis this morning was cancelled due to mechanical difficulties so Ole Miss had to bus to and flight out of Atlanta. Then BOOM goes the dynamite and the hate starts to (and likely continue to) flow.

Harsh words for Jeremiah Masoli: "Somebody tell The Dash if this is a good career move: After leading your school (Oregon) to the Rose Bowl, go out and commit felony burglary the following spring. Then, while suspended for the 2010 season, get cited for possession of marijuana. Then transfer to Mississippi and scramble for eligibility to play for a team picked to finish last in the SEC West. Never mind, The Dash can figure out that answer all alone."

Just some basic stuff about all 12 teams minus Georgia. I guess because the college football preview centers around them, but anyways, here's an interesting commentary on Ole Miss: "They’ll win the division if: Experienced and talented Oregon transfer Jeremiah Masoli wins the QB job and carries the Rebels to wins over Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and LSU." Now granted, the what-if game was also played with Mississippi State, but it's interesting.

A brief look at Ole Miss and the rest of the SEC. Also, briefly touches on Andy Kennedy's court case being over, Chris Warren, and Dundrecous Nelson. Also picked to finish second in the SEC West.

10th among SEC schools behind Florida (2nd), Tennessee (16th), LSU (19th), Georgia (20th), Alabama (23rd), Auburn (26th), Kentucky (29th), South Carolina (41st), Arkansas (46th), but ahead of Vanderbilt (59th) and way ahead of Mississippi State (114th). Not bad for an athletic department with our budget and number of sports.
