I've long thought Keppinger is a pro hitter, a Mark Loretta-type.

Is Astros management just trying to make us feel crappier? It seems like just as soon as I find serenity re: this offseason, another dud comes limping down the line.

What To Do Tomorrow, 1PM, MMP

The Lance Berkman Horse Sale is tomorrow. Maybe it is a widely known event down there (I'm not in TX, sadly), but I was tickled to stumble with maximum randomness upon information about the sale, at Minute Maid (which is what makes me suspicion that it's better known).

In any event, here is a link to the information, where you will find a promotional video from Lance and a catalog, for those in the equine market.

In case you're curious, I stumbled onto the link b/c the guy who blogs for Field Notes also works for 44Farms, which runs the horse auctioning show. blog post.

Enter the Voice of Reason

Cecil Cooper on Pence in the 2nd slot:

"He's just an exciting player and you want him to bat as many times as you can," Cooper said. "If he's down sixth, it would probably keep him from hitting one extra time. You want your best guys right up top. Hunter's just a guy that sees it and hits it."

It's good to see at least a hint of reason taking over. Here's hoping that it lasts even after Matsui returns.

Pence on Tejada

Not sure how many people are reading Hunter Pence's blog (Inside the Ballpark), but today was one of the best posts yet (they aren't all penned by Skinny).

Most notably, on Tejada:

Every at-bat early in spring he wasn’t in good rhythm and now all of a sudden, he hasn’t had a bad at-bat in three days. You could say that’s just the ups and downs of baseball, but he literally told us “Now it’s time to get it going.” And that’s just what he has done.

Now that's a rare insider's perspective, and I love the idea of Miggy turning to a few younger guys and letting them know the deal.
