Impacts Beyond the Diamond

Geoff Morrow of Penn Live writes about the release of long-time Harrisburg Senators players Justin Bloxom and Sean Nicol and the effect they had in the Harrisburg community. It's a well-written and touching human interest story.

Back in Harrisburg

Yesterday I made up to Harrisburg for my first two Senators games of the year; they were playing a double-header against the New Britain Rock Cats (AA affiliate of the Twins).

Buying Tickets, Making Plans

It's hard to believe, with snow in the forecast for tomorrow and a likelihood of snow on the ground for St. Patrick's Day, that spring is nearly here; I still have snow from the storm before...

What To Watch For: Eastern League Championship Series

Paul Meinhart of the blog "Mayflies & Big Flies" previews the Eastern League Championship Series between the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) and Trenton Thunder (Yankees). I have tickets for games 4 and 5 in Harrisburg. Depending on how things go at the office, I may be able to make it to game 3.

Rascal's Birthday, and My Last Senators Game of the Year

+

Today I attended my sixth and final Harrisburg Senators game of the season. The game, against the Portland Sea Dogs, also happened to be the birthday of Rascal, the team's mascot, and there were more mascots (to help Rascal celebrate) and a post-game "run the bases" for kids. Rather than recap the experience, because it was very much like the other games I've attended this season, check out my Facebook photo album which has some thoughts on the game and the post-game fun.

NPR: "Did America's Pastime Originate In England?"

Did the Prince of Wales play a baseball game in Surrey in 1749? NPR's Linda Wertheimer talks about the evidence. What was played was called "base-ball," but it only resembled the game we know in passing. For more, see this BBC News article from June.

Received Today, a Senators Strasburg Jersey

+
782633092

When I was at the Harrisburg Senators game last Tuesday I saw a number of fans wearing a red Stephen Strasburg Senators jersey. It was clearly a promotional item, it had the logo of one of the local television stations on the sleeve. The morning after the game I scoured eBay, and I found several for sale. It had been given away at the June 1st game against the Trenton Thunder, and sellers were offering it for between 35 and 50 dollars. I bought one, and it arrived today. I don't know that I'll wear it, but it's definitely a neat collectible to have.

Where's the Nationals' novelty song? Where's the song that personifies Nationals fandom? Where's the song that encapsulates the season? Where is our fight song? Where is our call to Natitude?
