GT 2 minute offense
Do they have one? I admit I know very little about GT other than they run a triple option and when they throw the ball it is generally down field (way down field). As we know, a 2-minute offense lives and breathes by the intermediate passing game. That's why teams like NW are masters at it. So, what does GT do in that situation. If it is the 4th Q and Iowa is up by 5 with 1:27 remaining can we relax a little (ala Michigan running the 2-minute drill with Robinson under center)? Can anybody enlighten me?
G-Tech's offense
We know Iowa plays stay-at-home disciplined defense that is theoretically custom-made to eat up an old school option attack like G-Tech runs. However, Ferentz made a good point in his presser- how do you simulate an offense like that in practice? What I mean is, is Iowa's scout QB an option QB? Is there anybody on Iowa's scout team that will really be able to do anything resembling what G-Tech will present to Iowa? I'm kind of worried Iowa will be used defending against a fumbling, inept version of what G-Tech runs, then they will come to the bowl game and G-Tech will run what Iowa has been practicing against but 10X faster and more fluidly. It could be like sparring with a 3rd rate flyweight and then getting to the ring and fighting the heavyweight champion of the world.
4 probable assumptions to be made about the forthcoming new polls
There will be at least 2, maybe 3 one-loss teams ahead of Iowa (Miami, USC and LSU), Cincinnati will be ahead of Iowa (why? what scary games have they won?), Boise St, having already played and won the only real and competitive game on their schedule (the 1st game of the year) will be ahead of Iowa and Notre Dame, having almost beaten USC, will move up in the polls.
I will note that I am not a BCS or poll basher and I am not in favor of a playoffs system, but all of the above scenarios are absurd and laughable and they denigrate the value of the polls. Yes, things will probably work out somewhat more fairly by the end of the year, but that goes to show it is more about politics than merit.
