If anyone is looking to be entertained for about twenty minutes, go look at the rehashing of the ALDS at Pinstripe Alley:

http://www.pinstripealley.com/story/2007/10/8/23432/4683#commenttop

It's like watching starving animals turn on each other. They are boasting over who better predicted the collapse.

ESPN Poll - Weekend results

Friends:

The Diamondbacks are getting hammered in the ESPN poll for this weekend's game and postseason results. While people are voting for them for the NL West, they are forgotten in the "Strongest going into the playoffs" and TRAILING EVERYONE BUT THE BREWERS in the "Your pick for the WS" category.

Vote. Tell your friends to vote. I know it means nothing. But there's honor at stake here.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/polling?event_id=3168

ESPN Power Rankings

ESPN's power rankings come out weekly (on Fridays, for reasons that make little sense to me). So I was checking where the NL-leading Snakes would wind up, and it turns out that we are tenth.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/powerranking?season=2007&week=19&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1po s1

I know we have run differential issues, but it still doesn't make sense that from August 3-August 10 we went 5-1 and dropped a spot (to San Diego, who went 4-3 over the same period).

I know it's mainly AL teams ahead of us, and only the Mets, Braves, Padres in the NL, but seriously. Tenth?

and, according to ESPN.com:

"His agent, Gregg Clifton, said Wells was flying to the hunting ranch in Michigan that he co-owns with former big leaguer Kirk Gibson."

Any interest here for a back-of-the-rotation starter who has a 14.33 ERA over his last four starts but has a penchant of pulling it together in the postseason?

Draft

Well, as much as it pains us, we should start thinking about the draft. If the lottery keeps Atlanta out of the top three, we could get a pick as high as four (or as low as six).

Any thoughts here? The folks at ESPN.com have us taking Brewer if we get there.

But what if. . .

The Suns trade up for Durant or Odom. Who would we need to package along with a #4 pick to Boston or Memphis or whoever to get a shot at one of the two best rookies in a long, long time.

AzPhan's true identity

It has become increasingly clear that AzPhan has more at stake in the Colangelo/Moorad-Kendrick debate than just his interest in the 3.62/128.4 baseball system and the land-use deals put forth by the Maricopa County Stadium District. He has a personal interest.

If you check the timing of his posts alongside the Toronto Raptor's schedule of play, you will see that he never posts when the Raptors are on the court, and he always posts more when they are not playing (now that they have been dumped by a #3 seed, he seems to have all summer off to rant about the Dbacks).

AzPhan is Bryan Colangelo. He is trying to fight back against the meanies who did his daddy wrong. Just like George W. did. And you can see how that turned out.

The case For the Dbacks (by Crasnick at ESPN)

Anyone in the home front have musings on this one? Until today I had not given a second thought to the impact Gibson will have on the team (hell, I hadn't given it a first thought), and I still think it sounds sort of hot-airy. Is this the press office trying to sell tickets, or has the team really decided that all Young, Q, CoJack, etc. need is "hustle on the bases"?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview07/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2817038

Chris Carter

Dbacks 1B not Vikings Receiver

Anyone out there seen 1B Chris Carter and can give firsthand account? He has three homers in the spring, and I'm wondering if there's word on his future as trade bait or development.
All I know he was drafted 17th round out of Stanford in 2004, plus he's a 1B which means he has no future with this organization.
The team site quotes Melvin saying that he has a "way to go" defensively -- has he missed the pitcher throwing back to the mound after the out yet? Any info on where this person is going in the organization, or what he looks like on the field from people who've been there (Otacon?) would be welcome

Well we might as well come up with some possible new names for the BOB here. Maybe do another pool and give a prize to anyone who gets the right name. And given that Bank One was bought by Chase, we've been given a number of wonderful opportunities:

1) Ortiz gets Chased Field

2) Chasing .500 Stadium

Other thoughts?
