Okay soccer isn't my sport. Have hated it with a passion since I was a kid. Long ugly story that I wont' go into. But ... this is the World Cup. And even tho it is Oakland, let's support the Bay Area bringing the World Cup here huh?

Altho I'm not quite 100% positive I'm going yet (long story that had me considering canceling every account of mine that had the 'ang6666' in it), looks like there is a group of people planning on invading the Ducks game when the Sharks play them on Nov 21st in Anaheim.

I've asked this of others, and hey, not insulted no one has responded yet, but thought I would put this out there for all ...

The Sharks are playing the Ducks on November 21st (a Saturday) down south so I'm going to be taking my niece (who is in school down that way) to the game. Anyone want to join me for the trip down (and of course back up)? Think about it, let me know, so we can buy some tickets.

Which sport is more brutal on the players?

Okay I'm reading this article about football (ugh!) and the cons of increasing the number of games from 16 to 18 (what the hell?). First of all, can you imagine a hockey season with only 16 games (eek!)? No thank you! Whiney-asses are saying that it is brutal enough on the players completing 16 games, 18 would be tough on them (poor babies).

And then comes this comment -

The only sport that comes close to football's brutality is hockey. But when you see guys like Chris Chelios skating around at age 47, you realize even that comparison falls short.

WTF?? They are joking right? Hello! Has this person never watched hockey? Football players spend most their time standing around (yes, I've been to games), hockey players are constantly moving and slamming. Oh and hey, they do it for 82 freaking games!

So perhaps I'm off-based (unlikely), but opinions being what they are, we all have them - give yours.

I Miss Hockey

Okay now. I've had enough of the off-season. Each year since I've gotten into hockey, it seems as tho the off-season lasts longer and longer. There is nothing on tv (with Battlestar Galatica over with, nothing has my attention anymore), and netflix movies just aren't cutting it.

What am I going to do until the preseason and then the regular season starts? There is no anticipation for the day's game. No panic each time the puck comes into our zone. No high when the Sharks win a game. I want hockey season to start - NOW! I miss the emotional roller coaster. I miss looking forward to a game almost every other night. I miss following how other teams are doing and that slight pleasure I get when the teams I hate lose. UGH! Please hockey gods, let the weeks go by quickly.

I'll be going to game 5 on Saturday and hoping for a big WIN! So who all is going, where are we meeting, what time, etc etc etc. Details people. I'm all bout the details!

So put on your party hats, dry those tears, come in teal and let's cheer this team on! Regardless of how game 5 ends, the ride was sweet. Hopefully not bittersweet.

My Sharks History

As another "old timer" here, you would think I should have some fascinating story of back when I became a Sharks fan. But no. My Sharks transformation was pretty recent actually. Few years ago.

Use to be I was anti-sports. Not for any particular reason. I just didn't see the thrill in them. Been to baseball games - too slow. Basketball - sorry but any game where you get scores over 100, something is wrong. Football - they don't move more than a yard at times. Please! And soccer - don't even get me started on that. And hockey, never paid it much attention.

So altho I kept myself up to date on the current standings of the Bay Area teams, who was and wasn't in the playoffs, blah blah, I pretty much would just crack jokes bout men playing with balls.

One year, THE year, a friend of mine who is a huge hockey fan was going on about his Flames (ugh!). And how much better they are than the Sharks. Now keep in mind, I wasn't a hockey fan, a Sharks fan. Nada. But me being who I am, and him bashing a Bay Area team (yes he's from the Bay Area, but not getting into that), I had to defend them. Never went to a hockey game before.

Of course, if he bashed the A's or Raiders, I would have been right there with him. Off topic.

Around this same time, my oldest had been bugging me to take him to a hockey game. He had been playing street hockey with friends (been playing for years), he loves hockey. Had actually been asking for years and I always put it off. So I figured, why the hell not. I go to other sports games, let's just check hockey out.

First game we went to was a Sharks vs Flames. Did that to annoy my friend cause I wanted the Sharks to win (yes they did). And let me tell you, I was hooked! I walked away thinking "my god every sport should be like this!!!" My passion and intensity in hockey just floored me. It has everything and offers so much more than the other sports do. So now I spend my time reading everything I can to learn, watching all the games, and I find myself watching non-Sharks game just for the love of hockey itself.

And that boys and girls is my Sharks history moment.
