Who's the 3rd LB?

As expected Bates will be instituing a 4-3 defense...and we already know that Flip has been moved to OLB alongside RUUUUUUUD. Fox Sports.com com published "Bucs Tampa-Two defense gets deep six" (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9429938/Bucs-Tampa-Two-defense-gets-deep-six?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5), which got me asking after seeing only 2 LB's identified in the article.

So who do you think will be the #3 in the 4-3? Are Black or Hayes healthy and ready for the job?

Garcia to the Jets?

For some odd reason I found myself watching the 4-letter network career recap for Farve again…Deja Vu. During that session the discussions of the JETS QB for 2009 was a hot topic...and although Garcia was not really mentioned the criteria for Rex almost spelled out Garcia’s resume. WANTED: A veteran QB, that has a proven record of wining preferably a few Pro Bowl appearances, does not turn the ball over, and would be comfortable with a dink-and-dunk offense and a two-year deal.

So I began to wonder, can we get anything for Garcia? I'm not a contracts person...so do we have an leverage to get something out of this?

No. 2 Seed is it really crazy?

Is it really crazy to believe the Bucs can be the No. 2 seed in the NFC....

Schein Nine: Bucs getting it done on defense

by Adam Schein (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8879488/Schein-Nine:-Bucs-getting-it-done-on-defense)

Buc Ball

Don't tell anyone. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 9-3.

They picked off Drew Brees — twice — in the final 2:30 of the game. First, underrated safety Jermaine Phillips picks off Brees, setting up Matt Bryant's game- winning field goal. Brees and the Saints got the ball back and this time are intercepted by Phil Buchanon.

The defensive line got pressure with the front four. Barrett Ruud continued his Pro Bowl season flying around. On a day when Jeff Garcia was a non-factor, this was classic Buc Ball.

Defensive tackle Chris Hovan couldn't stop raving about Ruud's play when we chatted on Monday. And Hovan stressed how Monte Kiffin's defense is the ultimate blend of young studs and classic veterans.

Hovan said he had chills talking about the Monday night affair coming up with the Panthers in Carolina. When the NFC South co-leaders met in Tampa, the Bucs defense shut down the DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart duo and picked off Jake Delhomme three times.

Tampa can win in Carolina. And if you examine the schedules down the stretch and factor in Arizona's no-show on Thanksgiving night, I'd call the Bucs the favorite for the No. 2 seed. How crazy is that!

our defense returned with more experience (see Ruud and Phillips stats), our offense despite the QB issues early was a bit more solidified with additions such as Bryant, Faine, Dunn (all of which have had more of an impact than many thought).

Really...how bad have things gotten for JD that he is arrested in the one place where he could do no wrong, Hooters. Altough it appears he is not being charged, the situation must have been really bad for JD to be asked to leave a Hooters by the staff. I wonder if his Free for Life Comp. card from his contract with Hooters will be revoked or at least the drinks be limited to Diet Coke.

What a great talent...I wish him the best and hope he can overcome his demons.

Sergio moved up to #3 in the world rankings this week following his win. Going into 2009 will he continue to gain ground on Lefty and #1? Or will this new career achievement be too much for the Spaniard who considered leaving the game when the hill of success seemed to steep to climb.

The assumption is #1 will as usual take on all the challenges the are certain to come with his extended absence and rehab, with great poise. Like his the game, unpredictable, will Lefty excel with this challenge or pull hook his game and plummet in the rankings.

And they say this time of year has nothing to offer for golf….Sergio has certainly found fuel for the fire headed into 2009.

Where's Michael Bennett? Have you seen the Bucs Running back?

...UPDATE...

Apparently Head Coach Jon Gruden has admitted to making a mistake by allowing Warrick Dunn to play last weekend:

"We probably shouldn't have allowed him to play," Gruden said of Dunn. "We choose not to use him much. But he is such a warrior. He has played this game for so long. But, I agree. He wasn't himself on Sunday in Dallas. That's a big part of our offense" - Stephen Holder of the St. Pete Times

The feeling I get is that Gruden had his hands tied. By the 'Warrior' comment I'm assuming he's suggesting that Warrick Dunn wanted to play and probably asked to play and so Gruden gave in. The only thing that would make me think otherwise is the fact that Gruden has never been shy to bench a player due to injury or poor performance, i.e. DJax, Jeff Garcia, etc. Definitely a missed opportunity there, hopefully it doesnt happen again.

***********

With Dunn banged up should we really notice a drop off in productivity? We do have Bennett available who last I checked has started a game or two in the NFL. With Caddy off the PUP there were talks of his potential return to the line up. So if we can get Caddy into the line up why can't we get Bennett in the line up. At this point I have no major preference and certainly Dunn must get credit for the exceptional job he's done up to this point....but considering this position is in augmentation to Graham, why do I find myself concerned.

JScott:

The thing that baffles me with the trio is Michael Bennett's lack of usage. He's been inactive for the majority of the games this season. Which is slightly understandable considering the Running games success thus far BUT this past week Gruden really could have utilized him and lost a huge opportunity to see what he can contribute. #1: Warrick Dunn was obviously still reeling from the pinched nerve in his back, he should have never dressed and chanced further injury especially considering how much time he didnt see on Sunday. #2: Bennett can at the very least be used in the kick return game. He's done it before and there's no need in jeopardizing any receivers health on the roster by putting them in that role, i.e. Clayton/Hilliard. It's just odd because it seems like every team in the league uses their personnel to the best of their ability and to me Gruden leaves talent on the sidelines and for what? Maybe they're just not ready, that's the lack of knowledge i inevitably have as a fan.
