This is a link to an article by Sam Miller of the Orange County Register. He is referencing an article just published by Baseball Prospectus (which is a pay site so I did not link to it here). Among the findings of the PECOTA (Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm): 1) The Angels are projected to have the best #2, #3, #4, and #5 starting pitchers in the American League 2) Jared Weaver will have the 2nd best ERA in the Amercian League 3) Dan Haren will have the 3rd best 4) All starting pitchers except Kazmir forecast to have ERA's below 4 5) Jordan Walden is forecast to have an ERA of 4.83 6) Michael Kohn: an ERA of 3.17
"If Toronto did nothing except find a sucker to take Vernon Wells’ bloated contract, this would be a triumphant offseason" writes Joel Sherman, a New York Post baseball writer, who puts the Blue Jays first and the Angels last when ranking all 30 MLB teams for a productive offseason.
This is the contract I had hoped Naps would sign with the Angels. What could have been...
Randy Galloway (Galloway and Company), who hosts an ESPN radio show in Texas, interviews Mike Napoli. He begins the 6-minute podcast by "bragging about the acquisition." Click play for the "Mike Napoli Newest Texas Ranger" podcast in the archived podcast section. It's worth a listen.
Signing Adrian Beltre and Carl Crawford would have made Mike Scioscia ecstatic, right? Maybe, but let’s take a look at the other side of the managerial coin.

...Because "I want to win. This team is willing to do what it takes to get to the next step." I for one wish that were true of the Angels management.
Just a tweet from Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News - but not good news for the Angels. New Update: Link is now to MLB Trade Rumors Site.
With the sudden and unfortunate death of the inimitable Rory Markas, and the firings of Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler, the Angels broadcast ranks dwindled to four last season: Victor Rojas, Mark...
Is this just posturing, or does Reagins have a fight on his hands.
Either Tony Reagins relishes in the belief that when it comes to relief pitchers “the more the merrier” or he suffers from OCD. Another trading day, another left-handed relief pitcher. ...
Good news for those of us wanting to see Kendry back on the field. He's one superstar we don't have to depend upon Reagins to sign - we've already got him. But Scioscia says having Kendry back in the line-up "could be enough" of an offensive boost. Let's hope Reagins didn't hear that.
I guess Zoe Necrosis was right when he made this November 30 comment: "Anyone who says anything other than Skeeter ends up a Skank should come share their doobage with me and the Wonder Dog." The deal is estimated to be between $45 and $51 million.

If the money is for 'goodwill,' why does Boras demand repayment when the client switches to another agent?
The deadline is fast approaching for the Angels to offer arbitration to Matsui - 9 PM Tuesday. If not, Matsui becomes a Type B free agent.
Hurry, this weekend it's your chance to hit a home run at Angels Stadium and help out a good cause, the Groundskeepers' Canned Food Drive.
Another reason to think Matsui will be wearing a different uniform next season.
Red Sox are offering Beltre 4years/$52MM. Angels, how about offering 4 years/$60 MM?
Let's hope this translates to at least two big-name FA signings.

Your name is Mike Scioscia. Tony Reagins has given you a mandate: Cut your relief staff down to six - yes, that's right - six pitchers. You grovel and grumble but the boss has spoken. ...
During the pregame show today (9/29), Mike Scioscia was asked about players who are having "career years" and about "how different the team will look when we come to spring training next year." S...
Okay Tony, I'm just a regular guy, an Angels fan with an opinion and a desire to see the team return to post-season play. I won't pretend to have all the answers for the 2011 Angels roster, but...
When I checked the line-up for last Sunday's Angels game against the Mariners, I was surprised to see Mike Napoli's name in the clean-up spot. One only had to read Suboptimal's prescient allegory...
