5 hits + 3 runs / 2 innings = success? Now that is "new math."

Bobby Abreu Embraces Designated-Hitter Role

The real nugget is at the end of the article: Tim Salmon was a guest instructor at spring training camp on Monday. Chuck Finley was also there. Tim, it's okay if you happen to stay with the team for the next eight months. Hatchet could use some help.

PECOTA Projections - Angels Have Top Starting Rotation for 2011 Season

This is a link to an article by Sam Miller of the Orange County Register. He is referencing an article just published by Baseball Prospectus (which is a pay site so I did not link to it here). Among the findings of the PECOTA (Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm): 1) The Angels are projected to have the best #2, #3, #4, and #5 starting pitchers in the American League 2) Jared Weaver will have the 2nd best ERA in the Amercian League 3) Dan Haren will have the 3rd best 4) All starting pitchers except Kazmir forecast to have ERA's below 4 5) Jordan Walden is forecast to have an ERA of 4.83 6) Michael Kohn: an ERA of 3.17

Hardball's Top-to-Bottom Offseason Rankings (guess who came in last)

"If Toronto did nothing except find a sucker to take Vernon Wells’ bloated contract, this would be a triumphant offseason" writes Joel Sherman, a New York Post baseball writer, who puts the Blue Jays first and the Angels last when ranking all 30 MLB teams for a productive offseason.

Rangers, Napoli Agree to One-Year Deal for 5.8 Million

Reagins Struck Out In The FA Market. Did Scioscia Breathe a Quiet Sigh of Relief?

Signing Adrian Beltre and Carl Crawford would have made Mike Scioscia ecstatic, right?  Maybe, but let’s take a look at the other side of the managerial coin.

"K's CERA CERA" - A New Tune Celebrating Jeff Mathis - Angels Catcher Extraordinaire

(Sung to the tune of Que Sera Sera by Doris Day). Use the link for the video with the music. Okay, all together now... When I was just a little boy I asked my father, what will I be? Will I be ready, to handle a pitch, Here's what Soth said to me. K’s, CERA, CERA That is what will be the key ‘Cause catching’s not hard you see K’s, CERA, CERA ForTheWin, you’ll see. Adrian Beltre Explains Why He Chose the Rangers

...Because "I want to win. This team is willing to do what it takes to get to the next step." I for one wish that were true of the Angels management.

Just a tweet from Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News - but not good news for the Angels. New Update: Link is now to MLB Trade Rumors Site.

Kendry Morales To Be Ready For the Start of SpringTraining

Good news for those of us wanting to see Kendry back on the field. He's one superstar we don't have to depend upon Reagins to sign - we've already got him. But Scioscia says having Kendry back in the line-up "could be enough" of an offensive boost. Let's hope Reagins didn't hear that.

Derek Jeter's 3-Year Deal With Yankees Is Official

I guess Zoe Necrosis was right when he made this November 30 comment: "Anyone who says anything other than Skeeter ends up a Skank should come share their doobage with me and the Wonder Dog." The deal is estimated to be between $45 and $51 million.
