HH Unofficial Fantasy Baseball Thread

It's getting to be that time of the year where the community begins to post a series of fanposts and fanshots to recruit members for their running or startup fantasy leagues. I figured I'd...

Angels sign 17-year-old Dominican RHP Lianmy Galan

It's encouraging to see the angels active again in international signings. According to the article, Galan converted to pitching about five months ago and already sits in the low 90s.

Expanded Replay Approved for 2014

Managers will be allowed no more than two replays per game. It's been a long time coming, but kudos to MLB and the owners for finally getting it done

Sam Miller EaStsPiN article on WAR

I think most on this site believe in the value of WAR. But for the last few skeptics out there, I think Sam breaks it down in a very objective manner.

Nelson Cruz among others linked to PEDs

Saw this one this morning and I didn't see it posted here. All I can say is cheaters never prosper.

Garrett Richards solid in April 10 start. Williams still gets the 5th spot.

Richards line 6.1IP|8K|2BB|1HR|1ER GO/FO: 8/0 Very impressive line considering the park and the competition. Richards kept Reno Aces' hitters off balance throughout the outing. His control was lacking at times but he maintained above average stuff and kept the ball on the ground, with the exception of a solo HR. The Aces' announcer mentioned Richards displaying an effective changeup and stated a 94mph fastball in the 7th. Jerome Williams started for Inland Empire, the Angels' A+ affiliate. A very fine start for him as well, albeit against much lesser competition. 6IP|4K|0BB|2ER GO/FO: 11/1 I'm leaning towards Richards **********UPDATE************* According to this tweet by Mike DiGiovanni, Williams is getting the start on Sunday. Thanks to 5thStarter (no not J. Williams) for the heads up

Vegas odds: first manager to lose job

Mike Sciosia has 12/1 odds while, to my surprise, Bud Black leads the pack with 3/1 odds.

Forbes' The Business of Baseball

To my surprise the Angels were one of only three teams in the red for 2011

Giants, Angels In Scouting Rumpus

Bochy booted Angels scout during fielding drills and the scout was very upset. I think I would be upset too

Oakland Pitcher, Brandon McCarthy, uses lonestarball to learn sabermetrics

maybe a swing happy Mark Trumbo lurks on HH to see how he can improve his value in a saber-esque manner. Just take more walks and don't make any errors at 3B while maintaining a positive UZR. Its that easy

The latest Bourjos to Nats proposal

Bourjos > any reliever in baseball so I really hate this one

Carlos Quentin flew out to center then was traded to the Padres

Simon Castro and Pedro Hernandez were sent to the white sux. Castro was a top prospect in the Padre's organization just last year. But an improved minor league system and a digression in his overall numbers has caused Castro's prospect status to plummet. I don't know much about Hernandez.

Angels minor league discussion

The community is currently surveying the Angels' system over at John Sickels site

Mike Napoli: Prospect Retro

John Sickels writes about Napoli's profile as a prospect. Then he compares him to Jeff Mathis. Anyone want to guess who he deems more valuable? Anyone?

Taylor Lindsey hits for the cycle!!!

Taylor Lindsey hit for the cycle in Orem's win over the Ogden Raptors on Saturday. Overshadowed by high profile teammates CJ Cron and Kaleb Cowart, Lindsey projects to hit well but scouts question his defensive capabilities as a middle infielder. His offensive achievement on Saturday prove his potentially potent bat.

Garrett Richards: Prospect of the day

John Sickels over at minorleagueball.com profiles Angels' pitching prospect Garrett Richards: another reward of one of Bane's high risk drafts.

Tolia "Tony" Solaita: My Dad's favorite player

Career Average: .255 Career OPS: .778 Career Homeruns: 50 Career position: bench Nothing statistically outstanding, but as a Samoan kid with baseball aspirations my dad made Tony his idol.  Tony...

Sickels on Angels draft

Here's what he says about our sixth round pick "6) Austin Wood, RHP, Southern Cal: Very good arm, clocked as high as 99 MPH last summer, but very erratic track record and mediocre college stats (5.61 ERA, 50/34 K/BB, 90 hits in 77 IP) due to weak secondary stuff." Reminds me of Walden

ESPN Web Gem Poll

Vote for Bourjos' play in center as the top web gem for the year. Its about time the Angels get some love from the junior YES network. The poll is on the bottom right of the page.

Tyler Chatwood Interview

Its kind of old but i thought something Chatwood related should be appropriate in honor of his first major league start.

Jordan Walden

Mike Sciosia officially named Jordan Walden as the Angels' closer.  Here's the link.  This was an easy decision in my opinion as Fernando Rodney seems incapable of throwing strikes and the rest of...

Zach Britton

Britton is scheduled to make his first major league start this Sunday.  Heres the link.  Britton won the minor league pitcher of the year award and he posted a 1.35 ERA in orioles camp this spring...

Career Profile: Torii Hunter

A piece on Hunter by john sickels over at minorleagueball

Eskarlin Vasquez

I had drafted him in a keeper league thinking that he signed with the Giants.  Other league members called the pick invalid since there is no proof he signed with them.  So can anyone provide a...

What to do with Brandon Wood?

Here's a thread that John Sickels started over at minorleagueball discussing Wood's future in baseball.

Career Profile: Garret Anderson

This a piece by John Sickels over at Minor League Ball.

Mike Trout Q and A on ESPN's Sports Nation

On Thursday, Sports Nation invited Mike Trout to answer fan's questions about his position as the top prospect in baseball.  I thought it was really informative and answered some of the more highly...

Beyond the Boxscore: Value Calculator

I thought this was really neat. Try a Rivera-Crawford or a Callaspo-Beltre comparison. The results may surprise (or not).
