In need of a lefty reliever
Not one lefty reliever in the angels bullpen besides Brian Fuentes, whats up with that? At least bring up Trevor Reckling to fill that role that Darren Oliver had established. Imagine if David Ortiz is up to the plate in a 3-3 ballgame in the eighth inning, who you gonna call on? Scot Shields?? Hell, NO!. Or at least sign one of these guys:
John Bale (36)
Joe Beimel (32)
Alan Embree (40)
Ron Mahay (39)
Glendon Rusch (35)
Ron Villone (40)
Jamie Walker (38)
Our Fifth Starter?
Ok so our in house candidates are either:Trevor Bell, Matt Palmer, Sean O Sullivan, Trevor Reckling, and Anthony Ortega. In my mind that aint gonna cut it. Yes Matt Palmer racked up the wins, he was 11-2 and seemed to be our good luck charm, I dont know if the same will happen in 2010, we all hope so! I read an article by Lyle Spencer and he said Matt Palmer had the highest chance of being the fifth starter if the Angels do not pick up any other pitcher. He also said Vicente Padilla would be a good one for the Halos, but I do not think so. This is the guy who nobody respects in the clubhouse come on! My only choices for a free agent starter would be Ben Sheets, Jarrod Washburn, Joel Pineiro, and Jon Garland. I do believe Palmer would be good if he pitches with the same heart he showed in 2009. Ben Sheets who had elbow surgery to repair the torn flexor tendon was a free agent after the 2008 season but no team picked him up because of the injury. Now he has been rehabbing for two years and I think he would be ready to pitch in the Big Leagues. Washburn, a fan favorite, has shown his ability to pitch as he was second in the majors in ERA until he was traded to Detroit last year. Joel Pineiro has only had one good season and that was last year as he was 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA for the Cardinals, the only bad thing about him is he wants 4 yr/37mil and he has never shown consistency throughout his career. Jon Garland another former angel has won double digit games every year since 2002 but his career ERA is 4.42 just a little higher than league average which is 4.28 according to Baseball Reference. What do you fellow Angels fans think??
Other Pitchers to consider: Aroldis Chapman, Erik Bedard, Pedro Martinez
12/14/09 what a bad day for halo fans
Ummmm so I wake up this morning and see that the team I hate the most has gotten John Lackey. I was pissed so I said hopefully the Angels are able to pick up Roy Halladay. A couple of hours later Halladay is gone to the Phillies, and I said lets go after Cliff Lee now right??? Wrong again. Cliff Lee is actually part of a 3 team deal and he is going to Seattle. Then I see the Angels spent their money on Hideki Matsui. What is going on here?? I do not think Matsui will do good at Anaheim, because he is not playing in a little league field anymore.
Here are some options that will get me happy...
Option #1: Trade Juan Rivera for Derek Lowe, and then Sign Matt Holliday 6 yr/105 mil
Option #2: Trade Juan Rivera for Derek Lowe, and then Sign Jason Bay 5yr/90 mil
Option#3: Let either Palmer/Reckling/OSully/Bell/Etc do the job
Option#4: Sign Ben Sheets
Option#5: Chien Ming Wang?????
Option #6: Let Time Decide
Option #7: Other
What is wrong with the angels staff !!
Why offer Aybar!!! I understand Saunders and Bourjos but why not give up Brandon Wood. Aybar just finished an astonishing season and we are just gonna give him up for Roy Halladay. Dumba*s deal if you ask me. Brandon Wood who has never proven himself should be playing in Canada. And i dont wanna hear these people saying he has not gotten his chance i'm tired of it. Aybar led the team in average and is a terrific shortstop. The only deal i would send to Toronto is Saunders,Wood, Bourjos and what the heck throw in Hank Conger.
Our Closer Problems!!
OK so heres the deal. We have all seen how "good" Brian Fuentes is and he is not that good. Yes, he lead 2009 in saves, but any Angels closer would lead the league in saves because that is Scioscia's mentality. If the Angels are leading by three you better bet that the closer is gonna come in. We all saw how Jepsen could come through, but we still don't have a definite closer. There are a few good closers in the free agents market including: Mike Gonzalez, Jose Valverde, and Billy Wagner. Or should Scot Shields perform as the closer. I think the Angels answer is right here in Anaheim in Kevin Jepsen what do you guys think???????
Aroldis Chapman
Ok so Aroldis Chapman is this 21 year old Cuban, who defected on July 1, 2009 is now officially a Free Agent living in a small European Country named Andorra. So on September 27 the LA times reported that the Angels were in serious talks about pursuing Chapman. However the Angels would like to see him pitch in competitive events before considering an offer. The one discouraging thing is the Angels do not want to offer Chapman anything just out of a bullpen session, and the Yankees and Red Sox would offer him money out of a bullpen session. ESPN's Jorge Arangure Jr. suggested the $40MM-100MM range.
Angels Postseason Roster
Ok so here is the deal, Scioscia says he will be taking 10 pitchers to the playoffs. I believe those pitchers are: Lackey, Kazmir, Santana, Saunders, Weaver, Jepsen, Bulger, Fuentes, Oliver, and Matt Palmer. This means there will be 15 position players including: Napoli, Mathis, Morales, Quinlan, Kendrick, Izturis, Aybar, Figgins, Rivera, Hunter, Matthews, Guerrero, and Abreu. Now this is where the drama begins as the two last players would be between Bobby Wilson, Reggie Willits, and Brandon Wood. If I was the skip I would take Wilson and Willits. Say Jeff ".211" Mathis is at the plate with runners on second and third with two outs, we all know he is going to strike out or hit a nubber. That is why we need someone pinch hitting for him every time he gets an at bat from the 6th inning on. Now Willits is a lock for a pinch running situation or a bunt situation. Let's just hope Brandon Wood isn't in the playoffs because first of all Freddy Sandoval is better than him and he has had his chance.
