Stampede Blue Peyton to play a rival again in Brady maybe

Peyton Manning has his team on a role. He is leading the Indianapolis Colts to another stellar season as they are undefeated this season. Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game and so far he only has one ring. His one Super bowl appearance and victory is a surprise when looking back at the Colts records since 1999. They have had only one losing season since then and made the playoffs every year. The Colts went down to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005. The Pittsburgh Steelers are another team with a couple of rings and have spoiled Peyton Manning's colts teams in the past. There is a chance that Peyton Manning will have to play Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger in the playoffs again this year. The Patriots are always a playoff experience hurdle for AFC playoffs and the Steelers are defending Super Bowl champions. Peyton Manning must appear and win the Super Bowl this year to be considered at a higher level than these two rival quarterbacks. His legacy will be somewhat tarnished if he keeps losing to these other future hall of fame quarterbacks. His legacy will not be as great with just one Super Bowl ring especially compared to the three that Tom Brady has to show for in his great career. The Indianapolis Colts likely will have the best record with the home field advantages it has to offer. There will be no excuses if they lose in these playoffs. \Critics will start to wonder why in a incredible decade run of success that the Indianapolis Colts only have one Super Bowl appearance. They will start to question the greatness of Peyton Manning and his ability to win the big games

Windy City Gridiron Jay Cutler is not the problem

The Bears need to build a team around this quarterback. Jay is one of the better quarterbacks in the league, but when you add the fact that there is no running game with a poor wide receiver corps it will make any quarterback look awful. Peyton Manning would look bad if he played with this years Chicago Bear team. Then add the fact that this teams offensive line is one of the worse

Hogs Haven Nickname needs to go

Washington should be ashamed of themselves. for many years season ticket holders have supported a team and franchise with the most racist nickname in the history of sport. The current ownership lives in the fifties where these derogatory names were often used by athletic departments and the average person on the street. Many schools saw no problem using offensive names to serve as mascots of their team. This was in an era before political correctness became popular in many of the nations universities. many have adopted name changes due to pressure from activist groups that were rightfully disgusted with nicknames as "Indians" and "Redman" representing their schools. The name of the pro football team in Washington is a disgrace. The commissioner needs to take a stand and put more pressure on the organization in Washington to change the name of the franchise. I can't believe there has not been more political pressure on the team to change its name. It seems like nothing has been even talked about the disgusting nickname for the Washington football team for years. American Indians activists have been visibly silent since their super bowl protests when the Redskins played the Kansas City Chiefs. Both team names are offensive, but the redskin stands out particularly as racist. It is just plain wrong to still have this nickname in 2009. The owners in Washington could care less who their team hurts or what that term use to mean in American history. If the arrogant owner Daniel Snydor of the Washington Redskins did what was right he would of changed the name of the team immediately. He can change the name of the team to the Washington Pigskins in honor of the fans and the game of football. Fans love to dress up as hogs in Washington and a football was at once time called pigskin. They then can retain some of the tradition of the name. Whatever they do the name "Redskin" needs to go along with their logo as many a college teams have done so.

Windy City Gridiron Bears need a running attack and have to win all the games against the bad teams

It seems by now Matt Forte is never going to regain the flash he showed last year. Is it time now the Chicago bears get a little desperate and try something else. Maybe Throw Devon hester in the back field and see what he can do. They could use him like the Steelersused Kordell Stewert some years ago. Devon Hester can show Chicago bear fans the unique Multi functional talent that got his that huge contract. the fact is both Hester and Forte are showing nothing in offensive flash. Not having a running attack is putting pressure on Jay Cutler and hurting the team. It was a mistake to get rid of both Thomas Jones and Cedric Bensonand rely on somebody who was unproven and only had one good year. What is Curtis Enis doing these days. this next game and some other ones against very beatable opponents are crucial. They cannot afford to have many losses as the Chcago Bearsseem uncapable of beating the good teams. To have any chance of even a nice 9-7 team like last year, the Bears have to win out right against the scrub teams like the Cleveland Browns this weekend. Wear your orange and support and cheer for them to destroy the brown wearing their best Sunday's orange jerseys. If the Bears don't win huge like the packers last week this will be a disappointment.

Cincy Jungle Cedric Benson proves why NFL should never give up on top drafted running backs

The Cincinatti Bengals made a wise decision in giving Cedric Bensonanother shot. Teams sometimes don't give players a second shot after their first NFL teams experience doesn't work out. Cedric was harassed by fans, media, and teammates in Chicago from day one when he reported to camp after a holdout his rookie year. The Chicago bears were filled with drama in cedric Benson's few years with the running back controversy between him and the veteran Thomas Jones. Cedric Benson was drafted to be the future running back in Chicago Jones and some of his friends on the team had a problem with that. Cedric was given a second chance with the Bengals and now it is paying dividends now this year as he is running his way to a pro bowl appearance. That attitude of certain Chicago bear fans to Benson on blogs and talk radio clearly show a dislike for the man to this day. It was great to see him stick it to his Chicago detractors who have bashed him for years in the media. Kudos to the Bengals in getting this man to show the NFL the true football talent he had that Chicago held back for his first three years. Cedric Benson has come to a less pressure environment and an organization that treats their players well.

Windy City Gridiron Kyle Orton and Cedric Benson thrive outside Chicago

The Chicago Bears offense seems to have problems developing players over the years.  Kyle Orton left the team and now he is having an All Pro year for the Denver Broncos leading them to their best start in years. He languished in a Bear offense that didn't develop his ability to be a leader.  It is no accident he is outplaying Jay Cutler so far this year. I expect to see Cutler regress as a quarterback now he is with the Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears offensive coaches do a horrible job in getting players to perform to their draft ability. Greg Olsen is having a bad year and Matt Forte is having a disastrous one.

Cedric Benson is another football player that got screwed by the Bears coaching staff and organization. He has gone so far as to say the Bears blacklisted him to other teams. Luckily for the Cincinnati Bengals they did not listen to what the Bears said about him. He has gained more than two hundred yards than Matt Forte thus far in the season. I am glad to see Cedric become the player people expected him to be once he got free from the Chicago Bears organization. This guy had tremendous talent that the Bears were never able to get out in three seasons.  Iremember reading that players who liked Thomas Jones hazed poor Cedric and threw him in a tub of freezing ice water filled tub. The Bears will see what they missed out on this weekend as Cedric will run all over his former mates. I shudder to think what would happen if Walter Payton came out to this current coaching staff and regime. The Bears don't develope many players because rookies get hazed by the veterans and are treated like Michael Jordon was treated by fellow veteran All Stars at his first All Star game. The Chicago Bears need to clamp down on the  personal drama and hazing of rookies. It ruined Cedric Benson's short career and who knows how many countless other players.

Windy City Gridiron Bears to avenge last years loss. Lets go get them

The Chicago bears failed to make the playoffs last season despite a winning record. They would of finished 10-6 last year had they not blown a late fourth quarter lead against the Atlanta falcons. The Bears get to travel to Atlanta again to play this team almost a year to the date of the meltdown game. They were embarrassed last year by a rookie burning them in the late seconds of an important early season game. I really expect and hope the Chicago bears to avenge that disastrous game against the Falcons. The Chicago Bears defense needs to dramatically make up for that game by bringing the heat to Matt Ryan. He needs to pay for what he did to the bears last season. The secondary really needs to step it up as they made this Matt Ryan look like John Elway. I don't know where the coverage was late in the game last year, but I do know it better be there this Sunday night. Matt Ryan is no longer a naive rookie and if the Chicago bears are not careful they will be lite up like the San Francisco 49 ers were last week. The Atlanta Falcons look like they are going to be another tough opponent. The game last year ruined the playoff possibilities for the Chicago Bears. The Bears will have got off to a great start this season with a victory and I am sure they will not take Atlanta lightly this time. in fact, they have all the incentives for a big game. This is a victory they need for the city, the fans, and their coach. I am sure all week Lovie Smith has not got anyone on the team to forget about that debacle last year in Atlanta. Now they just have to go out there and destroy Matt Ryan and the Falcons. That is lot easier to say than to do.

Daily Norseman Fran Tarkenton needs to cut it out and accept it

Fran Tarkenton has written a book and is publicisizing it. He keeps telling sports people around the country that the Minnesota Vikings should not have taken Brett Favre this season. Despite the fact that the Vikings are and are the favorite to win the Super Bowl. This man is on a crusade to knock Brett Favre and does not think highly of the key acquisitions of the NFL season. Brett Favre is younger and playing a much longer career than Fran was able to accomplish. Perhaps he is jealous of the stellar career Brett Favre had in his career. Maybe he didn't like the fact that Brett Favre played for the Green Bay Packers for many years. Brett could never really be a Viking for a season or two. I wonder if Fran is a Minnesota Vikings fan or just an anti-Brett Favre fan. It seems Fran should just be happy about getting to the Superbowl all those years when he played. Why the hell does he have to go around 2009 complaining about who the current Minnesota Vikings decode to quarterback their team. Some of these old timers just can't stand the younger generations of athletes. Men like Fran Tarkenton just can't take the fact they no longer have the limelight.

Over the Monster New York Yankeees and Boston Red Sox in playoffs again. How baseball reflects the real world

New York Yankeees and Boston Red Sox in playoffs again. How baseball reflects the real world Greed and wealth pays in this country. These two baseball teams are always on top of the standings in the American League. Baseball really has an economic problem as the wealth between the haves and have nots continues to grow. How this sport can still be popular I can't figure out. It's always the Yankees in first place because they have the capital to weaken other teams as they strengthen their own year in and year out. Teams like the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates never have a chance. I am glad pro football is nothing like Major League Baseball. They talk about the rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees all of the time. Sports fans don't seem to mind that in baseball only a select few are guaranteed to always be good. How can there not be an intense rivalry between these two teams since they are the only ones that can afford all the big time free agents. They are good every year because they play so many teams that have little money and can never get good. This makes the sport very boring when you know every year who will win the division and be in the playoffs. I swear to God you can look at past years and every year the standings always seem to remain the same. Now it's true the Yankees haven't won the Series for a while. baseball fans have been lucky that the ball hasn't bounced their way in the post season and allowed some other teams into the World series. The fact that they are always in contention while other teams never seem to be makes me sick. It is just like the wealthy in this country. The people with money can use that money to get their kids to be successful in the future. People with kids who are not super wealthy can't compete giving their children the same advantages. This is the basic flaw of the capitalism system in this country. Baseball bores me these days and I don't see the reason even to follow their season anymore

Daily Norseman The Vikings will finally make their fifth appearance thanks to Brett

The Vikings have been in four Super Bowls, but it has been a long long time since they have been in one. I have never seen the purple and white play in one. Things may change now that they have Bret Favre. This man is what they need to get over the top and return to the top of the NFC. The Minnesota Vikings main weakness was the quarterback situation and now this issue has been addressed. I just wish Bret had played with the Vikings last year instead of New York, as we may have seen him playing the Steelers in the Super Bowl instead of that other crafty veteran Kurt Warner. The Vikings have an establish tough defense and the games most exciting explosive running back in Adrian Peterson. They have a strong wide receiver corps way better than their divisional rival Chicago Bears. The NFC North will be an interesting race with the bears having their best quarterback since the days of Sid Luckman, However, Bret Favre is a bear killer and I still think he has it to dominate the bears and the rest of the NFC. He played good last year before a nagging shoulder tear limited him down the stretch. I think the Minnesota Vikings will have such a huge lead they will be able to sit him for most of December. He will also have the advantage of playing indoors in winter if you recall that disastrous Snow game he had with the Jets last year. The defense of the vikings and the running of Adrian Peterson was enough to guarantee a return to the playoffs. The vikings are a hungry team with big dreams and a hall of famer quarterback. This is a quarterback who wants to impress his young daughter who does not remember watching her daddy play in the Super Bowl. It has been so long since Brett has played in the big game I forgot what he looked like playing in the Super bowl. The glory of just playing in this game is the main reason Brett Favre has lasted so long in delaying eventual retirement. He has only played in two and they were in back to back years in the middle Nineties. Just one more appearance in the Super Bowl a mere fifteen years since his last appearance would cap off one of the most unusual and ultimate of sports careers in history.

The Good Phight Cliff Lee to get phillies back to the Series

Cliff Lee being picked up by the phillies and his play may be the best move of all the late seasons trades in baseball. This is a man who won twenty two ball games not that long ago. His play as been impeccable for the Phillies down the stretch and they will need everything they can get to get back to the World Series. The Dodgers and cardinals look extremely tough and this national league playoffs will be one of the most interesting in some time. I cannot figure out who the best team in the National League is right now from the few games I have seen from all three teams. One thing I do know is that when the organization pumps new blood into the system late in a season, it shows it's commitment to win. It is extremely positive especially when it is a player of the caliber of a Cliff Lee. This deal rejuvenated the Philedelphia Phillies and they may repeat easily this season. The Phillies know how to win it all and it has been a while since a baseball team has repeated in winning the championship. Good luck to the Phillies and to one of my favorite pitchers.

South Side Sox Ozzie's negative attitude not helping

When the manager keeps talking to the media about how bad this team is it only makes the situation worse in the clubhouse. I think this is the season where we are witnesing Ozzie's unprofessional attitude towards his players that may be costing the team at least a divisional title. His nagging and rants towards individual players does nothing expect anger that player and his friends on

Windy City Gridiron Brian Urlacher won't take no bull from Cutler

Brain Urlacher and Jay Cutler had a little rift a few weeks back.Players have huge egos and I am sure Brian and other members of the Bears defense did not appreciate all this talk of Cutler being a savior. It came out in the media that urlacker had some things to say about Jay Cutler. The offense and defense usually don't get along on football teams so this should come as no surprise. Brian is letting Jay know that this is his team and he better not think about acting superior in the clunhouse as quarterbacks tend to do. The fact is Jay Cutler is expected to do alot of things and he will be under the radar from the players and fans if he fails to live up to the hype. There are expectations from the fans for huge statistical improvements from a position that historically have been missing from this franchise. Jay Cutler will be let known their displeasure if he doesn't show something good as quarterback of the Chicago Bears. Brian Urlacher and the defense will be much improved. They will expect more scoring from the offense and let Jay more openly see their displeasure if things go wrong. Kyle Orton may not have been a popular player with the fans, but with his teammates he was very popular. The defense may of given him some passes when he played miserably. They will not do this for this cocky Jay Cutler as everyone around the league knows of his selfish attitude. He is not a great teammate and often makes remarks of teammates bad performances. This will not nor ever will be tolerated on the Chicago Bears. Jay Cutler will better change his attitude or he will have less friends on this team than he had in Denver. Brian Urlacher will be the main one and least player he can afford to tick off. Welcome to the Bears Jay.

Bucs Dugout Should the Royals and Pirates combine

remember during World war 2 I think some NFL teams combined rosters to make one team. I was thinking if baseball ever contracts maybe a good suggestion was combining these two teams into one. Brew Crew Ball Miller park being attacked by critics

I have been to Miller Park and enjoyed the place. I have noticed on some blogs that people attack it from time to time. Maybe the Cub fans are jealous they don't have a new ball park. However, I came across this web site that really dissed the ball park.  I was just wondering how folks in Milwaukee feel about their park.  http://deadspin.com/5322107/why-your-stadium-sucks-miller-park?skyline=true&s=i   I don't know why there are those critisizing Miller park. Most of the new ball parks made today are great. Sure the tax payers paid for most of this financing, but to have something nice is not going to come cheap. Old County satdium was the pits and Milwaukee needed a super new stadium to keep up with all the other teams new stadiums. Anyway I hope the brewers turn things around and give the Cubs some competition this year. At least we know who has the better more modern 21 first century state of the art stadium
