What's the Knock on Tim Wheeler?
So, I was just looking at John's scouting report on Tim Wheeler and he does NOT seem to be too high on him. All that Wheeler's done at AA is hit:
.321/.409/.664 with 12 HR, 35 RBI and 7 SB
Now, John gave him a C and said Tim Wheeler, OF, Grade C+: Doesn't look like he'll hit for average, but has other skills. Would you say, anyone, that Wheeler's answered the question(s) that John has had of him? I'd imagine he's AAA bound by the end of the year and he seems to be the type of player that the Rockies like.
Anyone have any other information on this guy? He just seems to be demolishing the ball right now and it's puzzling to see how low the opinions are of him as the results don't work with the scouting reports.
J.D. Martinez
What's the knock on this guy? I mean, the guy's lines have been:
2009 - Rookie/A-: .348/.399/.598 with 12 HR and 56 RBI and 44/20 K/BB ratio (21 year old)
2010 - A/AA: .341/.407/.531 with 18 HR and 89 RBI and 97/48 K/BB ratio (22 year old)
2011 - AA: .339/.408/.581 with 2 HR and 22 RBI and 12/10 K/BB ratio (22 year old)
That's DAMN impressive for a LF in any system. John ranked him a B-, but I find that a bit low. He's not gonna' wow anyone with displays of massive power, but he's going to hit above .330 consistently and drive in 80-90 runs a game while playing average LF.
Seems to me we fall in love with tools that we forget the skills aspect and some guys just play the game. What's up with that?
Possible Trade in a Keeper League
Hello all. Hope you guys are well. I am in a 10 team 5x5 keeper league that has contracts. My team is pretty stagnant and I have WAYYYY too many OF (Cargo, Heyward, JUpton, Stubbs, Choo plus C. Lee) and not enough Pop in my Infield. I have Castro and Rollins and Hill, but nothing much at 3B or 1B. I am pretty strong at Catcher as well (McCann and Wieters).
The second place guy has Fielder and Dunn and Morales and a fair amount of pitching (let's not get into that on my team) but not a lot of MI help and is desperate for OF help, too. I offered him:
McCann + JUpton + S. Castro (keeper)
for
Dunn (possible keeper salary) + F. Liriano (keeper salary) + M. Montero
am I an idiot?
White Sox Shopping Carlos Quentin
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/white-sox-shopping-carlos-quentin.html#disqus_thread
So, what do you think that we would have to give up to get Quentin? We could put him in RF and move JH to CF and have McLouth as our 4th OF with Prado in LF.
Evidently the White Sox want a package with a reliever (Venters? Kimbrel?), starting pitching (Minor? Delgado? Teheran's off limits) and a position prospect or two (Schafer could use a change of scenery - Bethancourt could be the prize).
Thus, would a Venters, Delgado and Bethancourt be too much for Quentin? Too little?
where is Edward Starlin Salcedo
I mean, seriously...after all the talk about this guy being a stud and advanced, I expected a little more buzz from this guy
Where is this guy and how is he doing? It would be nice to have some good news right now, to brighten up my mood about the big club; so, if anyone knows where and how he's playing, etc. the information would be nice.
Is he in extended spring training? is he at Danville (can't find him on the stats)?
Thanks.
A Quick Question
I am in a keeper league with minor league prospects. My prospects now include:
1. Pedor Alvarez
2. Martin Perez
3. Mike Montgomery
4. Aaron Hicks
6. Tim Beckham
7. Wil Meyers
Now, my question is this: Seeing that Aaron Hicks has been, well, sucking it up and Withrow hasn't pitched well, who should I pick up? I know you don't know who's available, but think pretty much everyone after #50 in last year's consensus top-100. Should I keep Hicks? Should I get Hosmer? Ethan Martin?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Help Me Draft My Last Keeper
Hello All.
I am in a 3 year keeper league and we have just completed our minor league draft. On my Major league Roster I have Heyward, Gordon Beckham, Matusz and Jennings (just waiting). I have drafted 7 rounds of Minor League Players. They are:
Pedro Alvarez (3B)
Martin Perez (LHP)
Logan Morrison (1B)
Aaron Hicks (OF)
Mike Montgomery (LHP)
Chris Withrow (RHP)
Tim Beckham (SS)
Now, I need to ask some of you for some advice. Since it's a 3 year keeper league and since I have a LOT of youth on my Major League Roster and I get one more pick, should I go offense and old (Tyler Flowers?) at a premium position or should I go best player available (at this point it's Yonder Alonso) or go with a hurt player (Jarrod Parker? Westmoreland?) hoping they come back next year or go with a young awesome bat (Myers?) at a premium position or go with Brett Lawrie/Tod Frazier (Middle Infielders) or, finally, Chacin? I know most of you will see this outside of what is available, but who would you pick given what you have above?
Thanks.
2010 mock draft
http://www.draftsite.com/mlb/2010mock.htm
this place is normally a pretty good source of mock draft scenarios. however, this mock is completely asinine. they have us taking LeVon Washingon, a 2B who's silly fast and has good pop. one scout described him as having "Ricky's bat but Reyes' speed". That would look great on the field for us.
yet, he will NOT be there when we pick. plus, they have Stetson Allie going at #31 when all the scouting reports are saying that he won't fall past Cleveland in the top-10 (he's a local Ohio kid).
some people have suggested that Stetson Allie is better than Bryce Harper and that Harper is A LOT of hype and that his skill set is closer to Jay Bruce than to Albert Pujols.
my question is: who do you think the Braves should pick?
Well, you can forget about Holliday...
yeap...in case you're living in a cave, the Cardinals traded the following players:
Third Baseman Brett Wallace, Outfielder Shane Peterson and RHP Clayton Mortensen.
for Holliday.
I bring this up because it shows you something about the Cardinals' front Office. It's got Balls. While I think this trade will undoubtedly send them backwards in the next 2-3 years (Wallace is a stud), they are going to go for winning NOW. The A's get a pretty decent haul (much better than the one we got for Tex, FWIW...that always irked me--that we didn't get more out of the strongest bat at last year's trading deadline) but the Cardinals are thinking about winning now and are not afraid to do just that.
I guess this brings me back to the question at hand: is our Front Office too scared to make major moves that MAY help us win now, but for the cost of 2 years down the road (and I don't mean Heyward or Freeman...I mean Kimbrel, etc.)?
So, who now?
Obviously the front office thinks that Minor is the LHP that will pair with Hanson and JJ and Medlen in the future I thought that would be Rohrbough, but he's struggled), but I am disappointed we didn't go for the BPA.
I think it's time to draft some position players int he next few rounds: some that have the ability to be everyday players with upside within 3-5 years.
Some ideas
Max Stassi, c, Yuba City (Calif.) HS was not drafted and will, most likely, be there when we pick in the 4th. Kid's got some serious potential and is a position of need for us.
Jeff Malm, 1b, Bishop Gorman HS, Las Vegas can SMASH the ball. However, he seems destined to be a 1B and Freeman is a very good one.
Angelo Songco, of, Loyola Marymount; someone said he can hit. ALOT.
Brian Goodwin, of, Rocky Mount (N.C.), I've seen this kid and he's silly athletic. However, I doubt we could sign him away from UNC.
Jacob Stewart, of, Rocky Moutain HS, Fort Collins, Colo. (supposedly a great athlete with improving bat).
Ryan Jackson, ss, Miami (middle Infielder).
Austin Maddox, c, Eagle’s View Academy, Jacksonville (I have no idea)
Luke Bailey, c, Troup HS, LaGrange, Ga. (???)
So, I was wondering: Who do you guys think we should draft?
Jay Gibbons anyone?
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/03/marlins-release.html
Gibbons could come cheap and help out in RF if we wanted to platoon he who shall not be named.
I know some of you are going to say something like "well, but he's caught up in the 'roids" or, better yet, you'll say that he sucks.
he does suck. but so did our outfield last year. I have to tell you, G. Anderson is a good hitter, but is in the twilight of his career and he who shall not be named is a pretty mediocre ball player. Not to mention what we may or may not have in CF.
I say we invite the guy to ST and see if he's got anything left.
