Cat Scratch Reader Senior Bowl Practice

Today was the first day of televised practice of the senior bowl. There were a lot of players that I liked and think that they would be some good fits for the Panthers. Granted the top prospects weren't there, but I am actually kinda glad that they weren't. Because it gives us the chance to see players that are expected to go in the later rounds. While there were first round Offensive Linemen there that did well. I was also noticing that there were some others that are projected to go in the second and third rounds that did a good job (some better than the projected top prospects). There were some DTs that I thought made an impact in there draft stock. And I noticed some others that I haven't heard of that were doing great. What are your thoughts on the practice?

Cat Scratch Reader Breakdown: Panthers Prospects

On the 7th I wrote a post about who the Panthers should pick now that Andrew Luck is staying in school. I wrote that the best options are Patrick Peterson, Nick Fairley, Da'Quan Bowers, and AJ Green. Over the past two weeks almost I have been looking at game highlights for all four of the prospects and was suprised at what I came up with.

Cat Scratch Reader 2011 NFL Draft: Panthers New Pick

So thanks to Andrew Luck the Panthers have to decide what to do with their pick now. Whether to go with A.J. Green with the pick or trade down to find another quarterback ( none of whom are listed in the scouting top 20). I decided to look at the options from out side the box. Taking myself out of the equation as a Panthers fan and jsut looking at the best option. Well I think that I have done a pretty good job of doing that.

Cat Scratch Reader 2011 NFL Draft: Panthers Edition

Thanks to Sunday's game Carolina is now on the clock for the first pick in April's draft. The advantage for panthers fans is we can now make our comments on who we want the panthers to draft....(like they'll listen)! While our voices won't be heard and taken into consideration, I decided that it's still our fan rights to comment our opinions anyways. Let's go ahead and start.

Cat Scratch Reader Panthers Vs. Saints: Ups and Downs

Last Sundays game showed that the Panthers can stay in the game with most of the teams in the NFL. One thing about the game that I noticed was Jonathan Stewart. On a couple of his runs that I saw he started in one direction and had a couple people to block. But he ended up switching directions and running towards the group in the middle of the field. He looked hesitant and wasn't how he usually is. A power back that likes to hit people and punish them for getting in his way. He wasn't himself and I don't know if it was because of his ankle or what. DeAngelo Williams proved once again why he is our starter and a premiere runningback in the NFL. Dwayne Jarret showed promise in points of the game and it would have been nice for him to catch the 40 yard pass from Delhomme. I mean Marques Colston dropped passes left and right. So you can't say it is because he isn't any good. Stuff happens and the best he can do is keep trying. Jake Delhomme tried to take some chances and he did a pretty good job. I know he didn't do that well but the fact is he took chances without turning the ball over. So I was impressed by him. I think the Panther that showed the best improvement was Gary barnidge. He caught the balls that were thrown at him and he tried his best to get the extra yards. he had that one fumble but it was saved after it had gone out of bounds. With the loss of yet another key player I see another lossing season for this year. But the only thing that we can do is hope for a Great draft and try again next year.

Cat Scratch Reader Panthers RB Analysis: Double Trouble 2008 vs. 2009

Last year DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart made a running tandem that we know today as "Double Trouble". D-Will was the speedster and J-Stew was the Bruiser also known as "Smash and Dash" but because of the Tennessee Cry Babies it became what it is today. Double Trouble and the Carolina Panthers offensive line is now the backbone of our team. John Fox has always tried to establish the run first theme and once we lost Stephen Davis things weren't the same. Foster became the starter but didn't really show any "talent". He was the teams leading rusher until last week. Williams broke that record in only three years. Stewart is probably going to past the same mark if not next year then the year after. The running game is strong and looks like it's not going to slow down anytime soon. But out of curiosity I wanted to compare the 2008 Double Trouble to this years tandem.

Poll
2009 Double Trouble
Both will get close to breaking last sesons stats
46 votes
Both will go over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs
90 votes
Both will slow down and not get to last years stats

Both will get pretty much them same stats as last year

Cat Scratch Reader Panthers Secondary and Double Trouble

The Carolina Panthers Secondary went into last Sunday's game with only three interceptions. They came out with three more(plus the ones by Peppers and Davis). They showed explosiveness to the ball and were hard hitting through out the game. They held (who many believe to be the NFL's best Wide Receiver in) Larry Fitzgerald to 66 yards receiving and no TDs. I don' know if you remember last years playoff loss (who can forget) but he tore the secondary up in that game. Sherrod Martin showed why he should be a starter and Chris Gamble reminded us why we love him so much. Richard Marshall stepped up and Chris Harris was....well Chris Harris making hits. Captain Munnerlyn did his job and together they showed why they are only allowing 167 YPG through the air. I think that if we could find a way to keep Martin and Harris on the field And bring in Charles Godfrey then I think the Secondary would be better. I mean three people at Safety. Four on the line. Jon Beason and Thomas Davis at Linebacker and Gamble and Marshall at corner. I know it would only be for two receiver sets and all but you could also bring Godfrey or Harris up to a Linebacker spot on other formations. But why change what isn't broken. It's not a change I want to see but an idea.

Now on to our always faithful running game. I don't know what it is about these two but every time that they get the ball there is always a chance that they will run the distance. Williams almost did on the 77 yard run he had. And Stewart not once but twice hit a wall and bounced it outside for a touchdown. Did you know that When the Panthers have ran the ball over Forty times we have never lost a game. With a massive offensive line and two awesome running backs I don't see why we couldn't run through every defense. Hell we ran for 270 yards against the number one ranked run defense. That's second highest in team history. Carolina is underdogs by 13 1/2 this Sunday against New Orleans. Two things to remember. Jake Delhomme has never lost in New Orleans and the Saints are allowing over 100 yards on the ground a game. Compared to Arizona's 67 yards I like our chances to run. What do you think

Cat Scratch Reader Carolina Defense is getting tired

At the start of the season we lost our run stopper. We then tried to fill his roll with guys that are a good 50 pounds lighter than he was. After the first two games our defense started to get better. We got the help from Hollis Thomas and Tank Tyler after we acquired them from Free Agency and a trade from Kansas City,

The past two weeks our defense has gotten so much better. Last Sunday our defense held the bills to 39 yards in the first half. By the end of the game they held the team that should have been a blowout on paper to 167 total yards. While our offense racked up 425. Yet we only scored one TD and that was from D-Will. If they could have stayed away from the turnovers and by now everyone should know who was the mastermind behund 3 of them. We would have been able to win that game easily. Really you just have to add on the two missed fields goals from kasay and that 20-9 would have been36-6 based on the possibility that they scored on the touchdowns. I jusy read an article and the guy that wrote it siad that he thinks Jake the Snake 2 ( Of course Jake Plummer is the original) should start at Arizona. ARIZONA!!! The team that grabbed 5 of his passes out of the air and a fumble to beat us 33-7. I don't know about you but that game felt like the wind had been knocked right out of me. And now John Fox is "thinking" about benching Delhomme. When this offseason hits either Jake needs to go or both jake and John need to hit the road. We are probably foing to lose Pep and Smith will likely be so unhappy that he will want traded and If that happens then Double Trouble are going to have a tough time running the ball.

Cat Scratch Reader Jake Delhomme and the NFL Draft in April

Yesterday I posted a blog on the things that were wrong with our beloved Panthers. My key point was that jake Delhomme is no longer the QB that helped come close to winning a Superbowl. The guy has gotten worse and John Fox is afraid to bench him.

Cat Scratch Reader Help Needed At The Quarterback Position

For the past six weeks I have said that id John Fox gets Steve Smith involved then we would be ok. Last week we got our running game going and even though it didn't look like it at some points in the game we are still above average on the ground. But until we get a quarterback that can stay cool under pressure and not try to force throws that end in being intercepted. Then we are in trouble.
