Well put.

This is a link to a short (I promise) article from this week's digital New Yorker.  It seems clearly written with tonight's Monday Night Football game in mind.  A lifelong Redskin fan, who also happens to be a reporter, succinctly assesses the state of the team with his bona fides as fan thrown in for good measure - Super Bowl attendance, RFK looting, etc. My guess is that a lot of us can relate.

Good read

I highly recommend Gregg Easterbrook's column in this month's Washingtonian. It's called "The Thinking Fan's Guide to Redskins Football" and contains a few pretty interesting insights. I thought the whole thing would be available on-line already, but it's just a blurb right now. I'll pull some quotes and post them tomorrow, but my guess is that the whole article will eventually become available on-line.

Even though it’s incredibly early to do this, here are my ridiculously specific picks:

9/13 @ Giants – W (surprise season-opening victory; Orakpo has a sack; Campbell throws for 2 TDs; Portis over 100)

9/20 Rams – W (not a surprise at all; Rams stink again; Portis over 100)

9/27 @ Lions – W (ditto; Stafford plays awful and our Dline in the backfield all day; Portis over 100)

10/4 Bucs – L (Bucs are better than expected under their boy-genius coach; this is a close, maybe a Cooley or Portis fumble late)

10/11 Panthers – L (Panthers are good this year, but we play them close and lose at the end on a long field goal; Portis just under 100)

10/18 @ Chiefs – L (tough place to play; Cassel turning out to be the real deal; we don’t show up and get blasted)

10/26 Eagles – W (Eagles turning out to be most overrated team during the offseason; still can’t stop the run;Portis over 100, Betts over 75)

11/08 @ Falcons – L (we start slow coming off the bye; Ryan, having a great second year, tears apart our secondary; DL has a bad day; Campbell two picks – QB controversy officially begins here; Portis injured late)

11/15 Broncos – L (Campbell struggles; QB controversy continues; Portis starts but is shut down)

11/22 Cowboys – L (full blown QB controversy; Campbell pulled late for Brennan, who struggles mightily; Romo puts up big numbers; Portis shut down early, pulled and sulks on the bench for the entire second half)

11/29 @ Eagles – W (following Brennan’s terrible performance, Campbell starts and has a big game, throws for 2 TDs and rushes for one; Betts starts, goes over 100)

12/6 Saints – L (Portis back, over 100; Saints steal it at the end, a couple big plays from Brees)

12/13 @ Raiders – W (long flight but Raiders still stink; Campbell has big day; Portis doesn’t hit 100 but only bc it’s a blowout and he sits most of second half)

12/21 Giants – W (Campbell continues to play well; OLine dominates, Portis over 100; smashmouth win, team finding its identity beginning to think playoffs)

12/27 Cowboys – W (continued dominance; Romo struggles against our Dline; Portis over 100; big day for either Thomas or Kelly)

1/3 @ Chargers – W (we control our destiny and show up big time against the Norv-led Bolts; Portis over 100, Campbell 2 TDs, one to Fred “Sleepy” Davis)

9-7 and we sneak in on the wildcard over the Giants.

League source "adamant" that Washington is interested in Cutler

Here's the lead:

Source says Washington has serious interest in QB

The Redskins have serious interest in Denver quarterback Jay Cutler, an NFL source said Tuesday, and have entered talks about a possible three-way deal to acquire him.

Two NFL sources confirmed the possibility of a three-way trade, with Kansas City being mentioned by one source as a possibility.

The Redskins, through a team spokesman, denied interest in Cutler. However, a league source was adamant that Washington has shown interest.

“They’re trying to do something,” one NFL source said of the Redskins.

“Whether or not it materializes is another matter, but [Redskins owner Dan Snyder] is on this hard. They don’t trust Jason Campbell.”
