Strike at Truman Sports Complex

The rumor, courtesy of KK at 810, is that the carpenters and steel workers union will go on strike starting at midnight on Tuesday, April 1...

If the strike lasts more than 60-90 days the Chiefs are in jeapordy of having to play all 16 games on the road next year.  All of this from 810.

Well this could be interesting.  Maybe we'll get to wear the Houston Texans helmets on the road...

Chiefs Throwbacks?

"The NFL on Monday granted the teams permission to wear their original uniforms and helmets from their inaugural seasons of 1960".

So the Chiefs helmets will look like...

Personally I don't like the idea...they were in Dallas for a couple of years and since then they have been supported by the Jackson County taxpayers.  If you don't like it go here and fill out this petition...set up by KK and 810 of course.

TO to Buffalo

Per ESPN:

"The Buffalo Bills and Terrell Owens have agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal, sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton on Saturday."

Is anyone surprised that it only took 3 or 4 days for a team to sign him?  If it is only a 1 year deal it may not be that bad of a signing. He won't have time to wear out his welcome...well maybe.

Curse of the Shuttlecocks

•In the three NFL seasons before the Nelson-Atkins commissioned the Shuttlecocks, the Chiefs won three playoff games.

•In the 10 baseball seasons before the Shuttlecocks, the Royals had seven winning seasons and a world championship.

•In the 29 combined seasons since, the Chiefs have won zero playoff games and the Royals have just one winning record.

“Wow, I didn’t know that,” says Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe. “I mean, wow. For real?”

You nod yes. He pauses, looks in the distance, and now back in your eyes.

“They need to take ’em down then, man.”

Kansas City Star

Pretty damn funny.

KC Star Lays off 50

The only reason I post this here is because 1 of the 50 is rumored to be  Jeffrey Flanagan from the 'Top of the Mornin' column in the paper.  It's a very, very sad day for the Kansas City Sports Community.

from the KC Star:

"Calling 2008 “one of the most challenging years in Star history,” Publisher Mark Zieman said in a memo to employees that the newspaper had “taken a number of extraordinary steps to keep The Star safe during this harsh economic downturn, and to buffer this great newspaper against future financial pressures.”

http://www.kansascity.com/382/story/883602.html

Without a doubt it's a new era in journalism and reporting.  Newspapers are stuggling to adapt to the economic turmoil facing the nation but also the propenisity for individuals like us to get our news from other sources rather than print.  After all how many times have we read something from Flanagan on AP or kansascity.com rather than an actual printed newspaper?  I would say it'll be interesting to see how the print media adapts to the challenges facing them but unfortunately I see it being more saddening than interesting.

LJ 3 Game Suspension?

I don't know how reputable the website is but it's a Sportingnews Blog so they may know their stuff:

"As for the Chiefs, ESPN's John Clayton reports that a three-game suspension is expected to be handed down to Larry Johnson after a nightclub incident in which he allegedly spit his drink in a woman's face and told her he was going to kill her boyfriend. LJ was in the NFL offices Tuesday meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell, which is never a good thing"

LJ Another Altercation with a Woman At A Bar

per ESPN

"During the Chiefs' recent bye week, Johnson was involved in a physical altercation with a woman at a Kansas City nightclub, sources told ESPN -- the second such late-night incident he's found himself in this year. The incident is consistent with a pattern of off-field behavior that league sources expect will lead to a suspension for Johnson under the league's personal conduct policy."

Chiefs vs Royals

For some time now I have had this theory that the Royals and the Chiefs can't be good at the smae time.  Think about it for a second.  When was the last itme you can remember both teams doing well?  Well of course there was 2003 when the Royal's caught lightening in a bottle with an aging Jose Lima "Believe It" and a once great ROY Angel Berroa but other than that when was the last time they were good much less great?  Guesses?

Since my job is less than fulfilling (Chris knows) I took the time to do a little research.  Starting in 1970 how many time did both teams finish above .500 in the same calender year?  Well the Royals were pretty good in the 70's and early 80's and the Chiefs were great in the 90's and then...oh man.

4 flippin' times.  In the 30 years that the teams have coexisted these 2 franchises have finished .500 or better in the same 4 times.

1971  Chiefs 10 3     Royals 85 76

1991 Chiefs 10 6      Royals 82 80

1993 Chiefs 11 5      Royals 84 78

2003 Chiefs 13 3     Royals 83 79

Now these weren't long runs were both teams were great.  Following 1971 the Chiefs finished 8-6 in 1972 then didn't sniff it again until 1981.  Well there was that 2 out of 3 stretch in from 91-93.  Those were crazy times right?  The Chiefs average 10 wins while the Royals averaged 79.  So how many times have they reach the playoffs in the same year?  0

Now as Kansas City fans we have seen stretches of horrible runs but stretches of solid play.  IN the 70's and 80's the Royals finished .500 or better 6 out of 10 years in each decade and in the Chiefs owned the 90's finishing .500 or better 9 out of the 10 years.

What does this mean?  One of these teams is destined for a decade long run advancing to the postseason several times and giving us, as fans, something to look forward to.

Looking at the Truman Sports Complex which team has a better chance of turning the tide and running rough shot over the 2010's?  Royals?  Chiefs?

My head hurts.

Pacman Suspended at least 4 Games

In surprising news Pacman is suspended by the NFL.  You will also be surprised to know that today is Tuesday, tomorrow will be Wednesday followed by Thursday and the sun is expected to rise in the East.

per ESPN

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended for at least four games for his most recent violation of the league's personal conduct policy, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Huard to Pats?

This is pretty interesting.  I'm not sure that I saw this anywhere else on here.  Sorry if I should have put it somewhere different.

"Athan reports that the New England Patriots are interested in the veteran to replace the void left by Tom Brady, who is out the entire season with an injury."
