I grew up in Denver in the 60's wow what a great time to be a kid and a tough time to be a Bronco Fan. We (my dad and I ) had season tickets up until 1980 when he passed on. Many of the best memories in my life were at Mile High. As you can see in my sig line "as in football so in life" I believe that many of the most valuable lessons i've learned came from either watching football with my dad or later on playing football (QB in HS and a DIII college). Got married and started a tech firm in the mid 80's and was blessed with success. The driving principles always being; Get your priorities in order. For me it's God, Family, Work and Football. Over the past 25 years I've started 3 more tech firms and somehow managed to wind up in North Carolina in the heart of the basketball universe. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor?

Mile High Report Time to mobilize the free agent sales force !

Tuesday 5:00 AM EDT John Elway steps into familiar territory, it's time to build a sales team and he's on the clock. He's got 3 days to reshape a 4-12 team and no less than 40 new names to add to the payroll via free agency and undrafted free agents. This is not your ordinary wine and dine, offer / counter offer, offseason free agency period. This is make the call, make your case and close hard baby. No time for the "think about it and get back to me" crowd, this is get em in the drivers seat, get em hooked and send em to my sales office at the first sign of interest. So how do you turn free agncy into car sales you ask. Let's jump....

Best quote of the year, just heard this on ESPN.
Question: Brandon, don't you want to say I told you so to all of your former teams that gave up on you?
Lloyd: no I just want to say f##k you, and I mean that in the most professional way!

Love me some BL !!

Mile High Report Jerry and Joe a tale of 2 agents.

The contrast between Brandon's debacle and Casey's handling of his renegotiation has lead me to this post. I'm fairly new to the scene here (1 mo) so forgive and redirect me if this has been covered. The question I'd like to throw out is "what is the role of the agent (not you AJF!) and which agent would you choose ?" First I'd like to contrast the 2 agents.

BM is represented by Kenard Mcguire, he is a UT grad and played pro ball for a couple of years. This from his Bio.

"We pride ourselves on educating our players," he says. "We make it our primary responsibility to teach our clients their financial options from the minute the ink dries on their contracts."

Kennard also represents Shaun Rogers, Javon walker, TJ Who'syourmama, Torry Holt, Shawn Springs and Dre' Bly to name a few.   In Kennard's defense the testimonials from his website rave about his work ethic and integrity.

The other side: Google and LexusNexus search of relative articles shows a frequent tactic advising clients to hold out and then not returning calls from the team (sound familiar? we'll get to Bus in a minute). Also found one article comparing him to a used car salesman.

CW is represented by Joe Linta he also represents Joe Flacco, Matt Burk, Todd Herremans and Willie Colon. Here's a testimonial from Todd Herreman  "I respect him. It’s not about the money with Joe. From the first conversation on, he was the agent everyone else had to live up to."
and from his website  http://www.jlsports.net/aboutus.html

Our staff is made up of former coaches and players who know, first-hand, the right way to get things done.

The other side: Can't find any negative articles but it's pretty obvious joe doesn't have the starpower that Kennard does either. More after the jump.

Mile High Report Things change or else....

Let me start by saying I'm a UDFA to MHR and this is my first post on what I consider to be the best sight with the most informed and football savvy membership I've ever seen, (so please forgive me if any of this is redundant). Regardless of the opinion of BroncoNations current state I've read better analysis here for the past 2 weeks than i've read in the MSM in 2 years, HT's breakdown of the draft was indeed brilliant (especially the magician comparative).

Let me start by saying I haven't always been a Bronco fan, I became one in 1983  when Elway became a Bronco. Having personally witnessing him destroy my #1 ranked 1980 OU sooners 31-14 in Norman. An individual  performance that I'll never forget. Once Elway became a Bronco I became addicted to the Orange and Blue and remain so to this day.

So as a fellow Kool-Aid drinker here's my take on the state of the Bronconation and why we are soooo much better off now than 6 months ago. First let's talk football physics for a moment. When it comes to QB's 1) Stronger isn't necessarily better ( remember Elway didn't win his championship until after he tore his bicep and lost about 10 mph and 15 yards on the long ball) He was forced to compensate by adjusting his reads going through his progressions and checking down more often and consequently had his best statistical seasons at the end of his career (and yeah TD helped a lot as well).  My point here is that a disciplined QB who plays within the system while not as much fun or frustrating to watch sometimes will win far more games than the gunslinger who believes he can make the play with sheer ability. Yes it's better to have both if you can get it but how often have you seen itI'll take a system guy with strong character and leadership skills, thank you. When it comes to RB's, CB's and WR's  2) Faster isn't necessarily better (sorry Al Davis). I know that the knock on Knowshon and Alphonso are that they're not speed demons, both however are credited with exceptional field vision and football instincts, now that I think about it the same goes for Mcbath and Mckinley . You pick, Nate Webster or Randy Gradishar Nate ran a 4.55  40 coming out of Miami and Randy once said he was so slow he couldn't run out of sight in 2 days.  So what's the point? The point is that Josh get's it!  Josh also gets that football is a team sport and no 1 player can be elevated above the team as Cutler was. I suspect (and hope) that Josh gets it on many more levels as well. I remember when Bronco Nation was up in arms about replacing the legend Dan Reeves who had become resistant to change with some hotshot from San Fran who wanted to change everything.

Finally while I applaud Pat Bowlen for his loyalty  to Shanny ( 1 of my all time favorite coaches) IMO he waited about 4 years too long. Change or else.....

Your thoughts and critique will be much appreciated.

2009 = 9-7  2010=  12-4   2011= Super Bowl Baby!!!
