A's approach architectural firm about new Oakland ballpark

Wolff has approached an architectural firm about designing a new ballpark for the Coliseum site. Small steps... but good steps in the right direction.

Well there goes our pristine field...

Petco Park is going to be hosting MonsterJam starting next year and the tons of sod displacing dirt that come with it. Just the latest in a series of money grabbing moves I've noticed with the new ownership.

Padres will play at USD's new Fowler Field

San Jose's Cisco Field plan formally rejected by MLB

STOP is going to get their arena vote after all...

Looks like STOP was able to get Hansen's ill gotten signatures out of limbo and will have enough to force a public vote on the arena. You may recommence worrying for the future of the franchise...

Anschutz made $249 million dollar offer for 49% of the Chargers

Looks like some of the particulars of AEG's planned LA stadium have come out. Apparently they made an offer to Dean for 49% of the team at a lowball price of $249 mil. The team turned them down, and the low price is likely what soured the league on the AEG plan. Nevermind that AEG tried to justify it by allowing the team to play at $1.8 billion Farmers Field which AEG would be footing the bill for. Also AEG wanted right of first refusal on the Bolts if the Spanos family ever sold.

Raiders getting rid of Mount Davis

From our friends over at Silver and Black Pride. You read that right. The Raiders are no longer selling tickets on the top of Mount Davis. They'll be tarping off the entire section (along with the end zone sections of the main 3rd deck) just like the A's do. Effectively the Coliseum's capacity for Raiders games will now be 51,000. And along with it the reason that monstrosity exists ruining the stadium for the A's is gone. I'm so pissed right now I could throttle Al Davis' corpse.

Padres making a play for the 2015 All-Star Game

Padres President Tom Garfinkel announced the new owners are making their case to MLB for San Diego and Petco Park to host the 2015 edition of the midsummer classic. This would be the Pads first All-Star game since 1992 and the first at Petco Park.

San Diego State leaving Big East before it joins

Looks like the inevitable happened. San Diego State is poised to announce later today or tomorrow that they're not joining the Big East and along with Boise State will be staying in the Mountain West dealing yet another blow to the Big East.

A's move from their long time home finally approved!

Yes the move none of us was really anticipating or even waiting for was finally approved. The A's and the Mesa, Arizona city council have signed a memorandum of understanding that the A's will be...

Tucson Padres to El Paso in 2014 - Ballpark and sale approved

Earlier this week the El Paso, TX city council approved building a $50 million ballpark in that city's downtown. The park would be built on the site currently occupied by El Paso city hall. However the stadium and the pending sale of the Tucson Padres to El Paso based MountainStar Sports was all dependent on whether or not El Paso's mayor would veto the proposed deal. He announced he would not, which means the sale and move of the T-Pads to El Paso is free to go forward. Great day for the citizens of El Paso and for the Pads AAA affiliate.

New crimp in Sacramento Arena plans?

Not sure what effect this would have on any new Sacramento arena with or without the Maloofs. But AEG, who were a part of the previous deal, are now on the market along with all of their assets including the LA Kings, LA Galaxy, a portion of the L*kers, the Staples Center along with a half dozen other arenas around the country. Most pundits don't think all these assets will go to one buyer which means AEG could effectively be at an end long term. Along with any help for proposed projects like Sac, Coliseum City in Oakland, and the LA NFL stadium.

Interesting news out of LA - AEG is for sale

Phil Anschutz has put AEG, his entertainment division through which he was trying to buy an NFL team to move to his proposed downtown LA stadium, and all of its assets up for sale as of this afternoon. Don't know what the implications are for the potential of a stadium being built in downtown LA now, but Phil was a primary driver behind that project. It can't be a good sign for it if he's no longer involved. Which could be great news for Chargers fans.

Minor League Road Trip - Lake Elsinore Storm

Sale of Tucson Padres nearly complete

Jeff Moorad's sale of the Tucson Padres to El Paso based MountainStar sports is "in the 9th inning" according to Moorad. Moorad's group, who formerly attempted to buy the big Pads has been negotiating for several months with MountainStar about a sale and move of the Padres AAA affiliate to El Paso, Texas. That sale and move appears to be nearly complete with a sale price of $20 million for the team and an expected move date of 2014.

Padres Sale to the O'Malley Group Complete!

Pending the expected approval at the upcoming owners meeting the O'Malleys, Fowler, and Mickelson are now the owners of the Padres! Sale price was $600 million with an added $200 million for the TV deal. The new owners don't expect to make any big baseball ops changes but will be more hands on then we've become used to.

T-Pads Sale to El Paso Group Approved by PCL Executive Committee

El Paso based MountainStar Sports have been given initial approval of their request to purchase a AAA team (with the Tucson Padres being the AAA team they've been in discussions with) by the Pacific Coast League's Executive Committee. The vote was unanimous and they now need only to finish the process by submitting a Controlling Interest Transfer to both the PCL and MiLB for final approval of the sale from Jeff Moorad the other San Diego Padres minority partners and the current T-Pads franchise future will be sealed, in west Texas.

Sharks Change ECHL affiliation to San Francisco

Looks like the Sharks have made a change at the ECHL for affiliation, switching from the Stockton Thunder to the brand new San Francisco Bulls. The Bulls play at the Cow Palace.

First 2012/13 Preseason games starting to be unveiled

Yeah it's early, seeing as the postseason hasn't ended yet, but it looks like the first few preseason games are starting to be announced via other sites than the Kings, mainly the Lakers so far. Found these when I was perusing upcoming events at the San Diego Sports Arena which led me to the vile one's informative if evil website. The Kings will be playing: Oct 19 - Las Vegas (Thomas and Mack Center) @ Lakers - 7 pm Oct 21 - Los Angeles (Staples Center) @ Lakers - 7:30 pm Oct 25 - San Diego (Valley View Casino Center) @ Lakers - 7 pm
