Carlos Pena a Stanford victim

TBO article

Carlos Pena has been cited as one of the many athletes and celebrities that have fallen victim to the Stanford Financial fraud scheme. Pena has had his bank assets frozen, but fortunately, he had the presence of mind to have a separate side account so that he could pay bills. Others weren't so lucky.

The Yankees' Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady are among players, all clients of agent Scott Boras, who said they have no access to their funds. Peña said one of his bank cards was denied.

Jarron Gilbert

6-6 280 DT from San Jose State, had 9.5 sacks as a senior, was the WAC co-defensive player of the year. He’s an athletic freak, Todd McShay was talking about him on firsttake this morning. He can jump out of a 3 foot pool without using his hands! Not to mention squat 635 and deadlift 655. He’s the prototypical Tampa-2 DT, thin, athletic, can rush the passer. He’d be a perfect pick in the 2nd round. Check out these vids.

Tony Dungy retires. Next Bucs GM?

Tony Dungy retired today as coach of the Colts presumably to spend more time with his family in Tampa. He almost single-handedly ressurrected the Tampa Bay Buccaneer franchise when he became coach in 1996. Seeing how Rich McKay's experience in Atlanta was a failure, I think Dungy had more to do with the drafting of players like Sapp, Brooks, Alstott, and Dunn than anyone lets on. I assume he will take next season off, but say the Bucs fail to make the playoffs yet again next season. Gruden and Allen will be on the hot seat, could the Glazers bring in Tony Dungy to run the front office ina similar fashion to what Parcells did in Miami? He would be able to stay close to his family and is there a smarter football guy on the market than Dungy? I don't think so. Any thoughts?

32 fans detained

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/article848724.ece

"Get up on your knees!" a female officer yelled at a handcuffed, barefoot Red Sox fan Friday night as at least three officers dragged the limp man into the holding tank.

Andy Munkittrick, 27, was among those ejected Friday night.

He said he was ringing his cowbell according to etiquette before the third out when a Red Sox fan grabbed it and threatened to "kick his a--" if he rang it again.

Munkittrick rang it again. Police took him to the holding area, saying it was an "aggressive move," according to Munkittrick

Reading this article I get the impression that Red Sox fans acted as they usually do, like classless, arrogant punks. If you don't like the cowbell, then watch the game at home, or better yet go back to Boston! But my favorite part of the article is at the bottom:

Chris Michalicka, 31, of St. Petersburg, was the sixth ejection Friday night. He said he was simply "being too loud at a baseball game."

Michalicka said a Red Sox fan came up to him bragging about his team being the best. Michalicka started yelling at him. That's when police intervened.

He also received a two-day trespass warning. A police officer warned in a stern voice that if he returned to the Trop, he would be arrested.

"I don't know what crime I committed," he said. "Nothing happened."

As police led him outside Gate 4, he shouted, "Go Rays! Go Rays!"

But police would see him again. Michalicka was arrested for violating the trespass warning later that night.

In his mug shot, he wears a little smile and a Rayhawk.

Nate Silver, the managing partner of Baseball Prospectus and creator of PECOTA, QERA, and the "Secret Sauce" formula, has created a blog about electoral projections called fivethirtyeight.com. He uses the same quantitative analysis that he brings to baseball to analyze opinion polling on the 2008 election. So if you're interested in this sorta thing, check out the site, it's really neat.
