Gamel sent back down to Nashville today - impact on Heether?
Since Mat Gamel was sent back down to Nashville today my question is this: how will this impact what happens with Adam Heether, who has been playing extremely well for Nashville at 3B since taking over for Gamel?
With Heether becoming a free agent after this year does this also signal the Brewers might trade Heether soon?
Wow. This is an interesting situation for the Sounds.
What do you think?
Chris Cody called up to Nashville
I just blogged on Burns being called up. He's been virtually untouchable this year. Brew fans are going to be impressed.
Seven of his outings this year were stellar or superb. He commanded three shuts out. He's 30 years old and I hope he stays up in the Big Leagues this time. This will be his fourth major league team to play for.
Nashville called up Chris Cody from Huntsville to replace Burns.

Surprised Gamel was called up?
I follow the Nashville Sounds very closely, blogging several times a day usually (attheoldballgame.com).
Honestly, I was surprised the Brewers called Mat Gamel up, albeit, mainly to pitch-hit.
Even though he started off on a torrid pace in April (as did Jake Fox), in his past ten games - which is one-third of his Minor League season so far - he is just batting .230.
I go into much more detail on this post: http://attheoldballgame.wordpress.com/2009/05/14/gamel-gets-call/
I can understand wanting to see if Gamel's bat would be any better than Nelson's has been but I'd not have the highest expectations for Gamel's bat right now.
I see he went 0-1 in a pinch-hit role today -striking out.
I wish him well though.

Prospective future for Mat Gamel?
I've been watching Mat Gamel (#6, 3B) play this season, many times in person. He's having a tremendous season so far offensively. He's arguably one of the strongest hitters in the PCL.
But his glove is sub-par. He's improved defensively the last couple years but I think for a 3B he's not even close to Major League material defensively.
Are the Brewers ever going to give him a chance to play 3rd or is he likely to become trade-bait in the near future?
Or other thoughts for his prospective future?
Thx
