Update: Former Blue Pavol Demitra Among Dead in KHL Team Plane Crash

46

Update: The agent for Pavol Demitra confirms he was on the flight and has died. Demitra played with the Blues from 1996-97 until 2003-4. Acquired from Ottawa for Christer Olsson, Demitra blossomed in St. Louis and became an offensive star. He was 36. The team plane of the KHL squad Lokomotiv crashed and reports say nearly everyone on board is dead. According to reports, "The plane went down and caught fire shortly after taking to the air. The crash site is merely 500 meters from the runway." The team featured several former NHLers, among them former Blue Pavol Demitra. It is not known who exactly was on the plane at the time of the crash. Puck Daddy's Russian expert Dmitry Chesnokov is covering the story as it breaks. We'll have more as we learn more. Just an awful, awful story.

Blues Schedule is Out

15

The NHL hates the Game Time paper crew. Brad, Gallagher, Gift, TB and crew are going to have a lot of work in short amount of times. The Blues have only three home games in October, but follow that up with the first of three five-game homestands in November. Odd schedule. Which game are you looking forward to? Is it the Feb. 25, 2012, game against the Winnipeg NHL?

Blues Ink Berglund to Two-Year Deal

18

The biggest news today in the NHL is obviously going to be this: The Blues have signed Swedish center Patrik Berglund to a two-year deal worth $4.5 million total. We all should have seen this coming—the Blues love two-year deals. The cap hit isn't terrible and it's nice that this won't drag into the summer. Berglund had great rookie year, a bad sophomore year and turned into a beast in the last few months of last season season. There were rumors he was spending too much time partying, but he seemed to wake up after Erik Johnson was traded (another guy who may have spent too much time partying). Berglund played great down the stretch and was arguably the best player in the World Championships. So what say you, GT crew. Good deal? Too short? Too much money?

T.J. M.I.A. In Practice, Blues Call Absence "Unexcused"

68

Practice for the Blues sure was interesting today. Alex Steen and Barret Jackman were back skating and Vladimir Sobotka was cleared to play. Good times. On the other end of the spectrum, Jeremy Rutherford of the PD and John Kelly of FSN report that T.J. Oshie was not a practice and it was an unexcused absence. Not good times. We don't know the details, but feel free to wildly speculate. I'm sure young Teej was just really tired after watching North Dakota advance to the Frozen Four this weekend. Just a reminder, last season (I think), Patrik Berglund missed a practice when his alarm didn't go off and the Blues suspended him a game. Let's see what happens to Teej.

Bernie Miklasz Reporting Dave Checketts Done in St. Louis

44

St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz is reporting that Dave Checketts is selling his 25 percent share of the Blues. Chris Gift confirms that Bernie is reporting this information. If you Rams fans may recall, Bernie was the reporter who broke much of the news of the Rams sale, so I think this is legit. It looks like Checketts couldn't find that money man that would pay most of the money and do none of the talking. We'll have more up later as more news comes out.

Beer Distributor Interested in Blues, Checketts Not Willing to Sell

16

So we finally have some news on the Blues ownership situation. Dave Checketts, the 30 percent majority owner (let that sink in), is looking for an investor to let him keep running the show. St. Louis businessman Tom Stillman is willing to buy in to the team, but not as a silent partner. Stillman wants the whole shebang. He made a bid to buy the whole team, but has been turned down. Time is running out on Dave Checketts. He either needs to find a rich friend who loves the idea of spending money but having no say in how things go down. Or, he can sell to the guy willing to buy. The choice is yours, Dave.
