Trying to make sense of the 18 game schedule
Alright so here it goes,
I think it's safe to say that the STARTERS on each team play roughly 1.5 to 2 games accumulatively during the preseason as it stands right now.
In the shortened preseason proposal, Starters would play roughly 0.75 to 1 game accumulatively.
This can reduce the starters playing time by almost if not, one full game. All of the sudden, the 18 game schedule feels more like 17 games. This is the first part of my argument.
The second part comes at week 17, which would normally be the last regular season game and the end of 20 team's seasons due to playoffs starting... but instead, there's week 18 and every team plays that week. So essentially it's as if everyone made it to "wildcard weekend".
Week 18 ("wildcard weekend") is done, and here comes week 19, the final week of the regular season. In the 16 game schedule, this would be the divisional playoffs. So now it's as if every team has made it to the "divisional playoffs". Hooray!
After week 19 is done, 20 teams are out. These 20 teams played as many games as a team in the old 16 game schedule that had made it to the wildcard and divisional playoff games.
(I hope this is making sense. lol)
Back to the 18 game schedule. The playoffs are beginning as 4 teams receive a much deserved bye week. 8 teams fight it out on wildcard weekend. In the 16 game schedule, this would be NFC/AFC championship games, where 4 teams are playing.
The next week ensues in the 18 game schedule. It's now the divisional playoffs, where again 8 teams are trying to advance. In the 16 game schedule, it's media week (no teams playing).
Fast forward yet another week in the 18 game schedule and it's now the NFC/AFC championship weekend, and 4 teams playing. This week would be the Superbowl in the 16 game schedule where obviously only 2 teams are playing.
Essentially the 18 game schedule means that only 4 teams are playing as long as the 2 teams that make the superbowl in the 16 game schedule.
I feel that my two arguements combined make a pretty strong case for an 18 game season, even though I know the majority are against it. But it doesn't seem so bad when only 4 teams are playing the maximum amount of games in a 16 game schedule.
I really hope this is too 'out there' or confusing, but it made sense to me when i thought about it. Let me know what you think!
Brian Robiskie
Since WR seems to be the topic of choice, I just figured i'd throw out a name that most of you fellas probably recognize but have not considered the eagles taking in the draft.
I keep hearing about Braylon Edwards, Anquan Boldin, Hakeem Nicks and Kenny Britt, but never hear anybody talk about Robiskie. He's (in my opinion) the most "NFL Ready" player in the draft. He's been around football all his life, starting as a ball boy, and eventually developing into a standout receiver at Ohio State.
He also has the NFL in his genes already. Terry Robiskie, his father, played with john maddens oakland raiders, and don shulas miami dolphins over the span of 5 years (1977-1981). His career was cut short due to injury.
Brian Robiskie has the best hands BY FAR in the draft and is one of, if not the best REDZONE threat in the draft. At 6'3" 209lbs, he has the body and strength to fight off coverage and fights hard for the ball when it's up for grabs.
His 40 time doesn't really do him justice, but his playmaking ability, along with his catching ability, puts him at the TOP of my list of WR's (with the exception of crabtree of course).
If he is available at 28, i say we get him cuz i don't think he'll be available by the time we're at our 2nd round pick.
Agree or Disagree?
So many Draft Picks
Alright, so we all know that we have a million draft picks. I'm sure i'm not the only one that thinks that the eagles are going to make a huge splash on draft day. I see the eagles moving up and down the board all day. I personally would like to see the eagles use a lot of their later round picks to move up into the 1-3 rounds. From what i hear, we have roughly 8 picks from round 4-7. Not sure what pick we got for GLew but i'm sure it's in the 4-7 range.
So with roughly 8 picks in the later rounds, how many picks do you think the eagles will end up with in rounds 1-3?
And do you see the eagles moving up dramatically in the first round?
Ravens keep Lewis, Eagles lose Dawkins
Funny how the ravens can make a deal happen for ray, but the eagles FO can't get get a deal done for dawk. If you compare these two players, they basically had the same significance to their respective teams. Ray is the heart and soul of the Ravens. Dawkins was (and i believe still is) the heart and soul of the philadelphia eagles. Both are aging veterans. Both are tremendous leaders on the field and the locker room.
I've grown to finally accept that dawkins is really gone, but seeing the ravens get the deal done, and realizing how valuable he is to the team, it sure makes one wonder why they couldn't do the same for dawkins.
So here's the question: Does the signing of Ray Lewis back to the Ravens make you more upset about the way the eagles FO handled Brian Dawkins (knowing that he wanted to be an eagle)
Why is Klecko the FB?
Can someone explain why we have the worst FB in the league? It's been proven that teams with good fullbacks have good running games. So with all our 3rd and short problems, wouldn't it be a good idea to get a good fullback this offseason? I know that the oline, maybe running back and maybe wide receiver are more pressing needs but c'mon... a Defensive Tackle??? SERIOUSLY!? This makes no sense to me.
