Nate Schierholtz starts an internantional clash!
Literally...so the U.S. played China yesterday and apparently Nate's collision with China's catcher, Yang Yang at home on a sac fly was viewed as too rough and relaltiation started the following inning. The catcher even had to be restrained by teammates and the Chinese manager, Jim Lefebvre, got tossed for arguing the play. (Wasn't he a Giants coach at some point? Hitting or something? Well before that he was a Dodgers, so typical....) Matt LaPorta got dinged on the head at the top of the seventh and some people got ejected. Then Yang later homers and celebrates the whole way around the bases..all this heated debacle caused by our very own Nate Schierholtz - way to deck their catcher!

NL Cy Young?
I just realized that there is a problem with voting for the NL Cy Young this year. So pretty much the candidates a month or two ago was Brandon Webb, Tim Lincecum, and Edinson Volquez. But now, all of a sudden, C.C. Sabathia gets traded to the Brewers and he's now 7-0 with yesterday's win. How does that work out? He pretty much split his starts between the Indians and Brewers. It kind of reminds me of that situation where the Giants won the NL in 2002 and then Baker leaves to go to another team. Will Sabathia steal the show from Timmy? Hopefully not; it's really too bad he's on such a bad Giants team given the amount of quality starts he has (which is pretty much all of them except for a couple) and has 182 Ks to lead the majors. Thoughts?

Tonight's game vs. the Padres
Wow, who would've thought that this was going to turn into a pitching dual between two former Cy Young winners? Not I. Zito was pretty accurate today, throwing about 70% of his pitches for strikes. But then again, he was also pitching against the Padres...I think only the Nationals have scored fewer runs. I realized the Padres' offense is a lot like the Giants', except they hit for a little more power and are slower.
I went super early for batting practice and got my first batting practice home run ball! Here are a few things I noticed:
- Where was Lincecum? I saw all the pitchers except for him stretching in the outfield.
- Matt Cain and the rest of the group are slow runners haha. Brian Wilson is the fastest.
- Robb Nen was there, chatting it up with Wilson and giving him some pointers...is he a special assistant with the Giants now?
- I probably saw Omar for the last time in a Giants uniform, he signed my ball.
- Walker and Taschner are the only players who are willing to sign stuff for people.
Oh and Wilson had a perfect 9th for his 30th save. Maybe Nen's pep talk worked? Usually, in a close 2-3 run game, it is normal, no, it is mandatory that Wilson gives up a run or two and allows the tying and winning runs on base and then proceeds to get a groundout or double play. He actually breezed through the hitters tonight, but maybe because it was the bottom of the lineup..and it's the Padres.
I'll try to go to tomorrow's game if I'm not too tired.
