Pick or Vick?
Within the last few weeks, the Detroit Lions have received more attention then they did all last season. I love all the talk and speculation wondering if the reports coming out of Detroit are legit or just to keep everyone aloof. Talk of drafting defense, lineman, or a QB has kept things interesting even though everyone knows the only choice Detroit has is to acquire a QB. Lately though, the talk has been centered on the drafting of Matt Stafford. What are my thoughts on this? Big mistake.
Anyone remember Alex Smith or Ryan Leaf? Well that's exactly what I see in taking Stafford. So who else is out there? Jay Cutler has sure made himself available, but at a price tag that's a bit steep.
So how do you find a QB who has the proven talent, and won't require half the team's salary? Answer - Michael Vick. You know he's going to be picked up by someone, so why not Detroit? Make it a one year contract, enough to cover a portion of his debt, but leaving plenty to use elsewhere. Sounds like a win - win situation to me. You can't get much worse than 0-16, so why not?
